âHold on, I just got a call. Oh, it's Trev!â
âI'll wait for you in the queue.â
âHi, Mr Arden.â
âHey. What are you doing?â
âPretty sure I told you that I'd be at the carnival.â
âI mean, which ride are you on?â
âHaven't gone on any. Hold on, why is my phone at 3%?â
âDid you not charge it?â
âI did!â
âThe battery's probably faulty.â
âHi! How many tickets would you like?â
âOne will do. Thanks.â
âTickets? Are you ââ
â Call Ends â
"You're kidding me."
Caden stood in line, his gaze fixated on the girl next to the popcorn stand. She stared at her phone in disbelief, before slipping it into her jean pocket and walking towards him. When their eyes met, she broke into a huge smile.
"Caden!" She said, picking up speed.
He smiled, sticking his hands into his pockets. When she finally stood beside him, she said, "You won't believe what just happened."
"What?" He asked.
"I was on the phone with Trev and I swear I heard someone ask how many tickets he'd like, but my phone died before I could even ask him! Could he be here?" She replied excitedly, clapping her hands in enthusiasm.
The smile on Caden's face vanished as he shrugged, "Didn't you say that he was on a business trip?" She stopped clapping and gently put her hands down.
"I must have heard it wrong."
