Chapter 39: Part 35

The Big Boss's SubordinateWords: 6371

A cool breeze.

I was on a rooftop. I looked around, and there were tons of other rooftops as well, with chimneys spewing smoke. The sun was setting and the city... town? City. I looked down at myself. I was wearing some sort of assassin outfit.

Weird.

I couldn't control my body! What, what was this?

Ah. I missed.

And I was...

Falling.

I closed my eyes, waiting for the impending pain. But it never came. Instead, strong arms wrapped around me. The person who caught me hopped on a windowsill, and gracefully landed onto the ground of the alleyway. He leaned back and held me in his arms.

I wanted to push his arms off of me at first, but then my whole body started to relax. I couldn't make myself raise my guard. This man, just who was he?

'You didn't argue with me.'

Why would I be arguing with him? I didn't even know who he was! We both sat there in silence. I didn't know if he felt the awkwardness too, but for me, it was there. What happens now?

'I feel like you're going to disappear.'

He said it quietly as he played with my fingers. Those words... they seemed so familiar. How come I don't know? How come I can't remember? Why? Why?

He nuzzled his face into my neck as if to ensure that I was still there.

"You keep getting yourself into dangerous situations. What if one day you bite off more than you can chew? What if someone really powerful comes and takes you away from me? I'm not sure what I would do. Please. Please. Please. Don't leave me!"

I was getting a major sense of deja vu. I had heard these words before, experienced this... dream before, but this wasn't Earth. So just where was it? Suddenly, teardrops were soaking through my shirt. He was squeezing me hard, but I found that I didn't care. It felt safe to be here, in his arms...

I turned to his ear. I said something. He pulled back and looked into my eyes. My breath caught in my throat. They were gorgeous, golden eyes. They looked like they were crafted by the finest goldsmith and dipped into gold.

And then they were gone.

Lorena shot up in the hospital bed. The heartbeat monitor was beeping rapidly, showing her inner turmoil. Her back was soaked with sweat and she was gulping air like she had been suffocated.

Lorena looked at her hands. They were shaking, so bad. She put one hand on the other in an attempt to stop it. Finally, she curled up into a ball. Her tears soaked her hospital gown. She felt a sense of unprecedented loss. Her heart was broken. He was gone.

She wasn't quite sure who, but she remembered his golden eyes. She had to find him. She just had to.

Filled with determination, Lorena uncurled herself. She decisively ripped the needle out of her wrist and tore off the wires she had attached to her. The heart monitor went flat. Lorena got up onto her two feet and quickly grabbed the bed. She was incredibly weak after sleeping for lord knows how long. She stamped her feet a few times to get feeling back into them and forced herself to walk.

Lorena felt strange. This was something she usually wouldn't do. She was never really active, but she just seemed to have an endless amount of energy and didn't quite like being confined. Lorena leaned her back against the wall next to the door and quietly opened the door a bit. She peeked into the crack and saw no one.

To be sure, she focused on her hearing and listened for any footsteps. She didn't hear anything. Good.

She slid her body out of the door and closed it quietly behind her back. She then, with light steps, strolled down the hall. Had one not seen her physically, one wouldn't even know she was there. Lorena decided to first search inside the hospital. Maybe he was like her? Maybe he didn't remember her too?

She slipped into the surveillance cameras' blind spots and made her way towards the computer at the front desk. She checked her surroundings and only heard a few nurses gossiping in low voices a few halls away. She would have to be careful.

Lorena slipped into the office chair and turned on the computer.

Shit. A password...

Lorena looked around. Would they be so stupid as to write it down? It was worth a try. Lorena searched the computer and found nothing. She started to rummage through the drawers and finally found a sticky note pasted to the bottom of the lowest drawer and typed it in.

I'm in!

She clicked the hospital records and was shocked to find there were 300+ patients in the hospital! She couldn't go through that many right now! Was there some sort of filter system to make this go faster?

Lorena fiddled with the settings a bit and managed to narrow her search based on eye color.

No blue, no green, no brown...

She clicked search and one file popped up. Her heartbeat accelerated, what if this was him?

Just as she was going to click it, she heard footsteps.

Shit! Not now! Go away! Just give me a few more seconds!

Lorena quickly clicked the file and saw those familiar eyes. She immediately looked towards the given name and memorized it.

She then closed all of the tabs and bolted out of the office. Well, she tried to. But there was somebody at the doorway. Lorena quickly hid in the shadows of the office. Thank god it was dark in there.

As the nurse walked to the computer, Lorena slowly inched closer to the door. When the nurse turned to turn on the light, Lorena made a dash for it. She slipped out of the room and quickly turned the corner. Despite the stressful situation, she found her heart beating normally as if she hadn't just almost been caught and arrested.

Pearson Black

Her love's name. She said it and loved the way it came out of her mouth. Lorena looked at the clock and found that it was four AM. She would have to head back before anyone found out she was gone.

Lorena made her way back to her room and tried to go back to sleep. She couldn't. Her heart, which hadn't even been skipped a beat in the office, was now beating rapidly. She placed a hand over her heart and warmly smiled.

"Pearson Black huh? Just wait for me handsome, I'll make sure you can never leave me ever again!"

She whispered to herself. A slightly evil smile graced her beautiful face, but nobody would see it as she was alone.

Ah! This is nearing the end, have you noticed? I really wasn't expecting for this to happen, but it kinda came to me. So now we have this! Okay, I'll go now! :)
