Chapter 813 The Bullet Didnât Hit You âReally?â
Brendanâs eyes lit up.
Deirdre had never once smiled ever since she stepped foot into this mansion, and this was the first time she said she wanted to go out to get some fresh air.
âIâll come with you,â he said, his voice thick with exhilaration.
Deirdre frowned. âWhy do you want to come with us?â âI can help you to carry stuff. I can be the driver too.â
Even Mrs. Engel could sense the submissiveness in Brendanâs voice. He used to be a very powerful person in Neve. There was no way he would willingly become other peopleâs driver.
Deirdre turned her head sideways and said, âThatâs not necessary. Look at the wound on your shoulder.
I doubt youâll be able to hold anything right now, let alone carry some heavy stuff. We can walk there ourselves. We donât need you to drive us there.â Brendanâs face sank. âI just donât want you to leave my side, Deirdre.â
Deirdre remained silent. She opened the door and bumped into Sam. Sam greeted her, and when he saw Brendan, he said, âSir, you canât go out with your injury.â
âIâll be back very soon.â
Sam frowned. He knew he could not stop Brendan, so he turned his head around to Deirdre and said, âMiss McKinnon, please help me. Mr. Brighthall canât go out today.â
Deirdre was stunned. She turned to Brendan and commanded plainly, âYou stay at home.â
Seeing how firm she was, Brendan did not follow after her in the end. He just looked at her and said in a raspy voice, âIâll wait for you then.â
After leaving the mansion, Mrs. Engel said with a smile, âMr. Brighthall loves you very much, Mrs.
Brighthall. He doesnât seem like someone whoâll give up so easily. I thought he was going to come with us to the grocery store today, but you managed to talk him out of it.â
Deirdre did not know what to say. She placed her hand on the stomach and said, âMaybe he doesnât want me to get angry as itâs bad for the baby in my womb.â
In the mansionâ¦
Brendanâs face sank instantly after Deirdre disappeared from his vision. He turned his head around and glared daggers at Sam, causing the latter to feel like he was the bad person who broke up the affectionate couple.
He looked at Brendan back and said, âSir, itâs not that I donât allow you to go out with Miss McKinnon, but youâre in no shape to go out right now. Besides, itâs time for you to change your bandages. Your wound might get infected if you donât change your bandages on time. At that time, you might even collapse before you can step out of the door, let alone go out with Miss McKinnon.â
It was only then Brendan calmed down. He lowered his head and tore off the bandage that Dr. Lang had put on him, revealing the dark bullet hole and the swollen, inflamed wound.
Samâs face was livid with rage when he saw the wound. âThat son of a b* tchâ¦â
He hurriedly took out a box and washed the wound with disinfectant. The entire process was so painful that the veins on Brendanâs forehead bulged, and cold beads of sweat were breaking out, but he didnât utter a single sound.
After Sam finished reapplying the bandage, he said, âSir, the bullet didnât clearly miss you at that time. I donât understand why you had to shoot yourself in your shoulder. Donât you know how painful it is? You should have shot me insteadâ¦â
Brendanâs face was pale, but his gaze was filled with emotions.
âIâm their target, not you. Itâll be pointless for you to get hurt.â âBut-â âAlright, letâs not talk about it. Just do as I told you.â
Sam nodded. Brendan put his clothes back on. The pain was unbearable after the wound was flushed several times. He took a painkiller and went out.
Meanwhile, Sam received a text message and rushed out of the door.
Meanwhile, Deirdre and Mrs. Engel arrived at the grocery store. She bought chicken and some ingredients for the soup. Suddenly, she heard the conversations of the passersby beside her.
âHey, have you seen the news on the Internet?â
