Chapter 761 Real Man âI shall take over the grocery shopping task as well. Iâll do it on my way home from work. You will only need to set your mind at ease and stay home. You donât need to bother yourself with anything else.
Donât open the door to anyone other than me.â
âSure.â Deirdreâs face was ghastly pale.
It was her only option now.
Deirdre spent the next few days constantly in deep distress. Every time she heard footsteps outside, she would be scared out of her wits. However, it was fortunate that nothing bad happened.
âYou donât need to worry too much. How can Brendan possibly be able to locate us when weâre in a huge place like Surstate? Heâs not the director with the script of our life stories. You donât need to be too worried.â
Tobey took two bites of the meal and comforted Deirdre by saying, âYou can go out for a walk to relax your mind once the dust settles. You donât need to stay in the room all day long because that wonât be good for the baby.â
Deirdreâs grip over her cutlery tightened. âItâs alright. I think staying here is pretty good, and I like not having to worry and think about anything else.â
Tobey looked at her and said, âAre you still afraid, Deirdre?â
Deirdre felt lingering fear in her heart after that dayâs incident. She acknowledged she was being oversensitive, but there was nothing she could do to convince herself otherwise.
âTobey, donât you find it strange that Brendan is convinced that Iâm in Surstate for sure? Even if he did figure out that we traveled here by sea, there were so many ships heading to different places that day.
How could he be so sure that weâre in Surstate?â
Tobey fell quiet as soon as she made the remark.
Not only Deirdre but he was puzzled on this issue as well. In fact, he was worried that the cargo shipâs crew might have revealed information about them to Brendan.
He went to sound out the situation on purpose and found out that the ship had yet to return to Eastgene at all.
âIâ¦â He was about to make up an excuse when his phone suddenly rang. Tobey saw the caller ID and picked up the call at once.
âMorn.â
Madame Russell spoke in a cautious yet slightly anxious voice. âWhatâs going on with both of you, Tobey? Why didnât you pick up my calls for the past few days?â âDonât worry, mom. Iâm fine. Havenât I told you before that Iâll be busy in the next few days? The phone signal here isnât that strong, and Iâve just managed to find time today to pick up your call.â
Madame Russell was choked up in tears. âTell me, why do you have to put yourself in your current position!?â
Tobey said patiently, âDonât worry, mom. Iâm a real man, and itâs very normal for me to travel to another city to work. When I have settled down here on my side, Iâll reach out to you again.â
Madame Russell wiped her tears and said, âYou can give me an address anyhow, right? This will allow me to set my mind at ease so I can know where to look for you if I canât reach you at the very least.â
Tobey figured that she was right, so he agreed. âYou wonât remember the address if I send it to you now, so I will send a text message to you. Iâm in Surstate, and the only way here is by ship. Donât take the trouble to come here because Iâll come to get you when Iâve settled down.â
Madame Russell said, âWhy do you insist on enduring this hardship, boy? Moreover, you took Deirdre with you!â
Deirdre was amused. She was worried that Tobey would be regarded as a kidnapper by Madame Russell if she did not speak out anymore.
âMadame Russell, the situation is quite complicated. When we have settled down over here, we'll bring you over and explain to you properly. However, Tobey has been very helpful to me.â
âDeirdreâ¦â Madame Russell was sympathetic. âSilly girl, why are you still running about when youâre pregnant? Your body is weak. What if something bad were to happen-â
All of a sudden, Madame Russellâs voice halted to a stop as if she had noticed something. She hastily changed the topic of conversation by saying, âIs it cold there? Shall I send someone to bring you a warm blanket?â
