Chapter 626 Why Should I Trust You?
He had not expected the woman before him to have the nerve to play mind games with him at a moment like this.
âI know exactly what you are thinking. You want to run away, right? I canât believe that you would stoop so low as to use this kind of excuse. What makes you think that Iâll work with Brendanâs woman?â
âThe devil takes the hindmost. Maybe a second earlier, I was still Brendanâs woman, but since he refused to come to my rescue to save himself, why shouldnât I find another way to save myself?â
Deirdre said candidly. She laid herself bare and added, âMr. King, all I care about is my own safety. To achieve my goal, Iâm willing to do anything I can, including betray Brendan.â
Cillian squinted his eyes. There was a voice in his mind telling him to guard himself against the woman before him. After all, not everyone could stay as calm as she had when she had been abducted.
That being said, he was curious about the things that Deirdre had said.
âThen how are you going to take revenge on Brendan?â Cillian pitched his voice low and warned her.
âDonât tell me that you want me to let you go so you can lead Brendan into some sort of trap. Iâm not a fool, Deirdre.â
Deirdre took a deep breath and said, âOf course thatâs not what Iâm going to do. Since Iâm planning to get revenge on Brendan, Iâll think of another way. Anyway, do you know Charlene, Mr. King?â
The name rang a bell, and it took Cillian a short while to recall who she was. âIsnât she Brendanâs ex-
wife? Sheâs serving time because she ran over someone with her car. Why did you bring her up all of a sudden, Miss McKinnon?â
Deirdre said, âThatâs because sheâs been released from prison.â
Cillian narrowed his eyes, and Deirdre continued. âShe had plastic surgery and now sheâs using the name Charli McKinsey. If you donât believe me, you can go and check yourself, Mr. King.â
âSo?â Cillian asked expressionlessly. âWhat are you trying to say here?â
âIâm sure you know how much Brendan loves Charlene, right? He would do anything for that woman, including sacrifice himself. The reason I have been able to stay by Brendanâs side and reap the benefits is that I look like Charlene,â Deirdre said. âIf the person abducted wasnât me but Charlene, do you think Brendan would have thrown everything away and come to beg you to let her go?â
Gillianâs eyes glowed up. The things that Deirdre had said were exactly what he had been dreaming of.
However, he soon regained his composure and said, âWhy should I trust you since you donât have any proof to support your statement?â
âFirst of all, Iâm not stupid enough to provoke you with a lie that can be exposed at any moment,â
Deirdre said calmly.â Second, youâll be able to tell if Iâm telling the truth or not when you go check it out.
For example, you can check if Charlene is still in prison or not. You can also check if the name Charli McKinsey is real or not.â
Before Cillian could say anything, Deirdre added, âNot only that, but I know where Charlene is right now. You just need to send some people over there and I assure you that you will find her.â
Cillian asked, âWhere is she now then?â
Deirdre was not going to tell him that. She struggled a little bit and felt the coarse surface of the rope grazing her skin. Then, she said, âMr. King, youâre a smart person, but Iâm not that gullible either. I need something to secure my safety too. I want you to get me a more comfortable place to stay. Iâll also give you some time to check everything I just said. When you make up your mind, weâll continue to talk about the details.â
