Chapter 553 Go on a Date With Me âYou donât deserve to compare yourself to him.â
The remark was merciless. It sent a wave of pain through his body like a sharp knife that stabbed into his heart. Yet, he did not even have the excuse to disclose the truth about himself.
Kyran was him but not him at the same time.
Kyran was the product of his meticulous disguise. He was a robot with forcefully controlled emotions and sexual desires. He was the exact opposite of Brendan.
In truth, he wanted Deirdre to accept his true self even more. However, he knew that it was only his silly notion.
Brendanâs fists tightened at the sight of the vigilant woman who was near the point of breakdown. A feeling of extreme reluctance was burning in his chest.
He could not refrain from saying, âDo you hate me that much?â
Deirdre was shaking. She sneered upon hearing that, as if she was poking fun at his question.
âI understand now.â Brendan chuckled in a self-mocking way. âThat man is all you care about, so you want me to disappear from your life, right?â
Deirdre furrowed her eyebrows and wiped away the cold tears on her face. âWhat are you trying to say?â
âGo on a date with me.â
Deirdreâs pupils constricted soon afterward. âHave you lost your mind?â
Brendan sneered. âIâm not threatening you, but Iâm merely giving you a choice, Deirdre Donât forget that weâre still legally married. You want to get rid of me and get a divorce as soon as possible so you can dive into that manâs arms, right? Then youâll have to give me a proper bargain anyhow.â
He said softly, âThis is the condition that I want. Go on a date with me, and Iâll sign the divorce papers when the time is right.â
Even if it was just a silly notion, he knew that it was possible he would not have the chance to do that for the rest of his life.
He wanted to be with her as Brendan, even if it was just for a few days or a few hours.
Deirdreâs mind went blank. âWhy?â
âHmm?â
âWhy do you want that condition?â
âIt is obvious that he doesnât love me. Is he still motivated by his disgusting possessiveness?â
Brendan said sarcastically, âItâs because I owe it to you, of course. I still have trouble sleeping because of your motherâs incident, so Iâm taking this opportunity to make it up to you, right?â
When he uttered the last few words, his tone was tainted with puzzlement and amusement.
Deirdre was disappointed instantly. She said with her fists tightly clenched, âYou donât need to make up a high-sounding excuse. If you wish to make up for that, the best compensation you can give me is to get a divorce at once!
âHowever, are you willing to do that? Hence, you donât care about making up at all. Youâre only using this to console yourself for causing someoneâs death!â
Brendanâs dark eyes dimmed slowly, and he said in a hoarse voice, âIs this how I am to you?â
Deirdre was momentarily stunned while Brendan returned to his usual cold self. He pulled his business card out of his pocket and placed it on the bedside table.
âYou may think however you want. This is my business card, and you can call me when youâre done.
figuring it out. Otherwise, we can continue to be legally married too. I donât have any objection to this, but I donât know how that man will feel when he finds out about this.â
Upon saying that, he got out from the balcony.
Deirdre could not help trembling from the cold when she felt a gust of cold wind blowing. Her heart was filled with intense coldness.
Meanwhile, Declan knocked on her door. âMiss McKinnon? I heard someone talking in your room earlier. Whatâs going on? Are you alright?â
âIâm alrightâ¦â Deirdre took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. âI was sleeping soundly, and I said something when a nightmare awakened me.â
âI see. Have a good rest. Call me if you need me, Miss McKinnon.â
âHmm.â
