Chapter 550 How Well Do You Know About Brendan?
âLet me guess. Itâs about Brendan?â asked Declan.
Deirdre clenched her fists and closed her eyes. After a while, she replied honestly, âYes. Itâs about him.â
âIt seems like I hit the jackpot,â said Declan. âWhat has he done again this time? Did he come to bother you again?â
âNo. Itâs exactly because he didnât come to disturb me that makes me feel strange. This doesnât feel like Brendan at all. According to what I know about him, he isnât someone whoâll give up so easily,â Deirdre said as she lowered her head.
She knew Brendan very well, but she was unsure of it now.
âBesidesâ¦â
âBesides what?â
Deirdre took a deep breath and continued. âHe didnât get Charlene out of detention. Instead, he even gave the police a lot of evidence. I donât understand at all. What is he up to again?â
A smile appeared on the corner of Declanâs lips as he said, âI was wondering what you were worrying about. So, this is it.â
Deirdre couldnât help herself and continued. âDonât you feel itâs strange, Mr. King? You know Brendan too, so Iâm sure you know how domineering he is and how he treats Charlene as if sheâs his whole world. How is there any possibility that heâll do nothing when Charlene is going to prison? And why is he helping me-â
âMs. McKinnon.â Declan chimed in, interrupting Deirdre. He took a seat around the table and looked at her. âHow much do you think you know Brendan?â
Deirdre was stunned.
Declan continued, âEveryone will change. Whatâs more, youâve been separated from Brendan for half a year. During the time when you faked your death, are you sure your death didnât affect Brendan? Are you sure he didnât regret what he did? Are you sure he didnât see through Charleneâs true face?â
âIâ¦â
Deirdre was stumped. She did not know how to answer Declanâs questions at all.
Would Brendan really mourn her death? Would he really come to his senses and see who Charlene really was?
She had never thought of these before.
She always thought Brendan would be blinded by his love for Charlene for the rest of his life. Little did she expect that he would come to his senses one day.
Declan continued. âBrendan is indeed hateful, but heâs a human too. Heâs able to differentiate between right and wrong. Besides, every piece of evidence points to the fact. that Charlene abducted you, so thereâs no way he would help her. I guess heâs just trying to redeem himself. Thatâs why he gave the evidence to the police.â
âRedeem himself?â
Deirdreâs mind was a chaotic mess. She could not think of anything right now as she said,â After everything he has done, whatâs the point of his redemption?â
Declan was stunned.
Deirdre realized something and raised her head. âIâm sorry. Iâ¦â
Declan laughed and said, âItâs okay. I can understand how angry you are with him. After all, whatâs done is done. He can never undo the damage that he has done to you.â
Deirdre did not say anything in return. After calming down, she said, âIâm hungry. Iâll wash. my hands in the kitchen and start eating. You can do your own stuff, Mr. King. You donât have to worry about me.â
Declan looked at her, nodded, and said with a smile, âAlright then. I have a meeting to attend, so Iâll be in the study room.â
He left after he finished speaking. By the time Deirdre came out of the kitchen, he had already gone into the study room.
Deirdre let out a sigh of relief. Even though she had no appetite, she forced herself to eat something.
When she was cleaning the table, she accidentally hurt herself.
The good thing was that it was not a deep wound. She went to her room to get the wound tended.
While she was cleaning her wound, she thought of the things that Declan had said.
âEveryone will change. Whatâs more, youâve been separated from Brendan for half a year.
âDuring the time when you faked your death, are you sure your death didnât affect Brendan? Are you sure he didnât regret what he did? Are you sure he didnât see through Charleneâs true face?â
