Chapter 549 Evidence From Brendan âI have no idea either,â Brendan said in a daze. âIâll hide it for as long as I can.â
He just hoped that day would not come so soon. This way, he would have more time to compensate her.
Deirdre had been staying in the house for the past few days. She didnât even open the door as she was too afraid to do so.
Based on her understanding of Brendan, she was confident that he would come for her the next day.
However, three days had passed, and nothing had happened. It was so quiet, as if Brendan had never appeared in this city before at all.
Deirdre even started to wonder whether it was a dream that she had run into Brendan that day at the police station. However, the scorching sensation when the manâs lips fell on hers and his tenacity kept reminding her that everything was real.
Brendan had been there, and they had run into each other.
It was just that Brendan might still be bothered by Charleneâs case, so he did not have the luxury of caring about Deirdre.
On the fourth day, Deirdre received a call from the police, notifying her that the prosecutor had filed charges against Charlene for abduction and that the first trial would be held on the first day of the next month.
âIf nothing goes wrong, thereâll be a result this time.â
âThatâs great!â replied Deirdre, her voice thick with delight. Then, she asked, âWhat about Brendanâ¦â
âWhat?â
âBrendan didnât do anything about it?â Deirdre was confused.
âIf Brendan wasnât there to save Charlene, then why was he at the police station?â
Deirdreâs question threw the police officer for a loop. âMr. Brighthall? What does Mr. Brighthall need to do?â
âCharli is his fiancee, right? Didnât he help Charlene prove her innocence or something? âYes, Charli is indeed Mr. Brighthallâs fiancee,â the police officer said hesitantly. âBut youâre his wife too. Iâm sure Mr.
Brighthall can differentiate between whoâs right and whoâs wrong. He probably had a fiancee because he thought you were dead after you fell into the sea and went missing. Since youâre back, heâll have to take care of his wife first. He came to the police station several days ago to provide the evidence regarding your abduction to us.â
âWhat!? Brendan is the one who provided the evidence to the police?â
Deirdreâs eyes widened in shock as her heart hammered in her chest.
She did not think something like this would happen at all. After all, she knew very well how much Brendan loved Charlene. She was confident that he was willing to sacrifice himself for Charlene, so how would he help her by sending Charlene to prison?
âAre you sure about it?â asked Deirdre, her eyebrows furrowed into a concerned frown.
âOf course. Thereâs no way Iâd make a mistake like that.â The police officer chuckled.
Deirdre still couldnât pull herself out of the shock after the police officer had hung up the call.
After that, she heard someone come into the house.
Declan had a lot of things in his hands. When he saw Deirdre, he asked, âHave you eaten anything, Miss McKinnon?â
Deirdre shook her head.
Declan smiled and said, âThen Iâm right on time. I just bought some takeout from the restaurant today.
The food is still warm, so you donât have to cook. Anyway, I hope youâll find them delicious.â
Declan placed all the food on the table. After that, he went into the kitchen to get some utensils for Deirdre. When he came out, he saw that Deirdre was still standing frozen stiff on her spot.
âMiss McKinnon?â asked Declan.
âIâm sorry.â Deirdre snapped herself out of her trance and walked toward the dining table. Declan followed after her and asked, âIs something bothering you, Miss McKinnon?â
âWell, you really are quite an observant, Mr. King. Nothing can escape your eyes,â said Deirdre, smiling dryly.
Declan teased her. âItâs not that Iâm observant, but youâre like an open book now, Miss McKinnon.â
