Chapter 438 Why Are You Here?
âDeirdre! Donât even think about living a peaceful life with another man! If I can destroy Sterling, I can destroy the next one too!â
Deirdre awoke in shock. She was breathing heavily, and her body was drenched in sweat. She opened her eyes and found that there was only darkness. She could determine that it was still early according to the noise level.
She inhaled a deep breath and wiped away the sweat on her head. However, the image of the manâs savage expression was deeply ingrained in her mind.
Deirdre could not sleep, so she got out of bed to do her laundry.
She opened the door and got out of the room. Her phone reported that it was five in the morning.
Meanwhile, people were already bustling about but speaking softer in the corridor.
Deirdre had just arrived at the laundry room entrance when she suddenly heard the rushed high heels.
clicking from the elevator, as well as Madame Brighthallâs panicked tone, âCoughing up blood? When did that happen? Why didnât you notify us earlier!?â
The nurse hastily explained, âMr. Brighthall wonât let anyone near his room. We only found out when we entered the room to clean up.â
âHow is he now?â
âThe doctor is still examining Mr. Brighthall. He just regained his consciousness.â
Deirdre halted to a stop and stood in the same spot. She could clearly hear Madame Brighthallâs suppressed crying because the surroundings were very quiet.
âItâs all my fault. Had I not forced him, had I not broken them up, this wouldnât have happened⦠How is he going to undergo surgery in his current conditionâ¦â
âDonât be sad, Madame Brighthall. Mr. Brighthall is strong, and he is going to be fine.â
The voices moved further and further away as if they had traveled to the furthest room in unison.
Deirdre shoved the laundry into the washing machine and lowered her gaze as she listened to the whirring sound.
âHe has coughed up blood and seems to be in a serious condition. Why is he coughing up blood when he has only injured his abdomen?
âAlso, his wound was not on his abdomen at all. Is it because of some other reason?â
Deirdre was confused, yet she knew she did not have the slightest connection to Brendanâs affairo now.
She learned to let go after meeting Kyran. She would not gloat even if Brendan was dead, but she would. only be calm like it was a strangerâs death.
Deirdre opened up the washing machine door when she heard a beep. She felt for her clothes and placed them into the basin before she turned around and walked outside.
The laundry room was quite a distance away from her room. Deirdre had only taken two steps away when she heard an astonished voice coming from in front of her. âItâs you?â
Deirdre caught her breath. She continued to walk ahead with her head lowered, but Madame Brighthall grabbed her and said in an agitated voice, âYou⦠Why are you here!?â
âPlease donât misunderstand, Madame Brighthall.â Deirdre knew she could not hide anymore, so she answered softly. âIâm not here because of Brendan. My friend is warded in this hospital, and this meeting. is purely coincidental. I didnât break my promise, and Brendan is unaware Iâm here.â
âNoâ¦â
Madame Brighthall was overwhelmed with emotions. She could not help feeling guilty when she remembered her actions toward Deirdre previously.
She had had no idea that the woman before her was the daughter-in-law who had been living with her for more than two years. Madame Brighthall figured that Deirdre was extremely disappointed by her judging by Deirdreâs behavior.
âYouâve misunderstood my intention, Char- Ms. McKinnon. In truth, Iâm⦠very happy that youâre here.â
âHappy?â
Deirdre was stunned and confused.
Madame Brighthall immediately held her hands and said emotionally, âI know that you were the Charlene who used to live with me, Deirdre!â
All of a sudden, Deirdreâs pupils constricted. She could not believe that Madame Brighthall would know and pulled back her hands when she realized the situation.
