Chapter 389 What Did You Call Me?
Kyranâs hand trembled. âWhat did you call me?â
Something flickered in Deirdreâs eyes as she repeated, âMr. Reed.â
Kyran took a deep breath to calm himself down and said, âDeclan, can you give us a minute?â
Declan knew that he did not have any right to meddle with their affairs, so he did as he was told. Before he went out, he closed the door.
âWhat did I do wrong, Deirdre?â asked Kyran.
Deirdreâs eyes turned red when she heard what Kyran said. It took her a lot of effort to suppress the urge to cry as she took a few deep breaths.
He had not done anything wrong at all. The one who was at fault was her. He was out of her league.
She should know her place and keep her distance from him.
âNo, you didnât do anything wrong. Itâs just that I think I should keep my distance from you.â
Nobody talked for a long while after she finished speaking. Just as she thought Kyran would not say anything, she heard him trying to get off the bed.
She jerked her head up and was startled. She quickly dashed forward and said, âKyran! Stop! You canât get off the bed yet. Your wound might open up!â
Kyran closed his eyes. After a short while, he opened them up again and asked, âI thought you didnât care about me anymore.â
Deirdre felt a pang in her heart.
âYou know what, Deirdre? Rather than keeping your distance from me, you should have just killed me.
instead.â
Deirdre shook her head. She couldnât say a single thing right now.
Kyran held Deirdreâs hand tightly as if he was worried that she might run away. He grabbed his phone with the other hand and typed, âCan you tell me what happened? Why do you have to do this to me?â
Deirdre felt raw in her throat. âI just feel that you have other better options.â
âDo you think Iâm going to buy that?â
Deirdre lowered her head and said, âDonât force me, Kyran. No one will like someone like me. Iâm ugly and blind. It wouldnât even be far-fetched to call me a monster. Someone like me doesnât deserve you at all. I know youâre serious when you say you like me, but I canât accept how other people look at me.
Besides, I feel pressured standing beside you.â
Kyran fell silent for a long while. Suddenly, he loosened his grip.
âSo, this is what you want to tell me?â
âYeah.â
Kyran released her hand and continued. âIâm sorry. I didnât mean to put you under any pressure. I thought I was just courting you normallyâ¦â
Deirdre couldnât raise her head. âEven though youâre courting me normally, it can be bothersome sometimes. So, I think we should just become friends.â
Kyran did not say anything for a long while. Just as Deirdre thought Kyran had fallen asleep, he said, âItâs getting late. You should go back to the hotel and get some rest.â
Deirdre nodded blankly. âOkay.â
Declan was waiting for her outside when she came out of the ward. He did not ask what was going on.
inside the ward and said, âLetâs go back. Itâs late.â
âOkay.â
Deirdre did not say anything throughout the entire journey. When she arrived in front of her room, she turned her head around and said, âMr. King, I might not be able to wake up early tomorrow, so Iâm not going to the hospital with you. Iâll give you a call after Iâm ready.â
âSure,â Declan replied readily. âDo you have my phone number? Do you want me to tell you, or do you want me to help you key into your phone?â
âYou can just tell me. I have a good memory.â
After memorizing Declanâs phone number, Deirdre closed the door, cutting off all the noises behind the door. When everything went quiet, it became even more apparent how lonely she was.
Deirdre threw herself on the bed and curled into a fetal position as she placed her hand on her face.
