Chapter 375 I Canât Bring Myself to Leave You Alone Deirdre did not expect Kyran to hold the line for the entire night.
âI hope I didnât mumble anything stupid last nightâ¦â she said inwardly.
âAre you awake?â Kyranâs voice wafted from the other end of the line.
âYeah,â Deirdre replied embarrassingly. âI thought you would hang up the call after I fell asleep. Why didnât you hang up then?â
âI couldnât bring myself to leave you alone,â Kyran replied honestly. âYou slept very soundly, and I felt you were very close to me. I was worried I might not have the chance anymore if I hung up the call.â
Deirdre was rendered speechless. Her face turned red with embarrassment, and she was tongue-tied.
At the same time, the doorbell rang.
âAre you awake, Miss McKinnon?â
Deirdre collected her hair behind her ears and went to open the door. When Declan saw Deirdreâs face, he was stunned.
âAre you sick, Miss McKinnon?â
âHuh? No, Iâm not sick.â Deirdre blinked. âWhy would you ask like that, Mr. King?â
âIf youâre not sick, why is your face so red?â
Deirdreâs face turned even redder. She hadnât hung up the call yet, so Kyran would certainly hear what they said.
âI just stayed for too long in the blanketâ¦â
âReally?â Declan shrugged as if he believed her. âYou shouldnât cover your head with your blanket when sleeping. You might get suffocated.â
Deirdre became even more embarrassed and hung up the call without saying anything to Kyran.
âMiss McKinnon, you should wash yourself up first. Iâll wait for you outside,â said Declan.
âOkay.â
Deirdre closed the door. She washed herself up, changed into a set of new clothes, and went out of her room.
âI came back late last night, so I didnât come to look for you as I assumed you were sleeping. The attendant told me that the person who followed you yesterday came here to look for you, right?â
âYeah.â Deirdreâs face turned pale a little when Declan mentioned that person. âHe said that his name is Brighthall.â
âBrighthall? Are you talking about Brendan Brighthall?â
âYeah.â
âThis is impossible,â Declan said with certainty. âBrendan is so sick right now that people are watching over him around the clock. I heard that he canât get out of bed, so thereâs no way heâs the one who followed you. He wouldnât have left his name behind even if itâs really him.â
âI donât think itâs him either,â Deirdre said as she lowered her head. âAccording to the receptionist, the man who asked about my room number has a scar on his chin. But as far as I know, thereâs no scar on Brendanâs face.â
âThis is strangeâ¦â Declan said, his eyebrows tightly furrowed, âBefore I came to your room, I went to check the surveillance camera. That man was wearing a hoodie and hid his face. under a cap. We canât see his face at all, but thereâs a high chance that heâs coming after you.â
âYeahâ¦â Deirdre had already prepared herself, so she was not scared right now. She frowned lightly and said, âAnd it seems to me that he knows about the things between Brendan and me.â
âIâll go check the cameras in the surroundings. At the same time, Iâll go through the people who came to Neve recently, butâ¦â Declan said sternly, âCan you not tell Kyran anything about it first?â
Deirdre was stunned for a moment, and she nodded.
âThank you. He shouldnât get out of his bed yet, and Iâm sure that he wonât stay still if he learns what has happened to you,â Declan said helplessly. âHeâs very weak right now, so I donât want him to risk himself.â
âI understand.â
Both of them walked out of the hotel together. They did not talk to each other throughout the journey as they were troubled by yesterdayâs incident.
