Chapter 351 What Is It Between Brendan Brighthall and You It felt like a nuke was dropped right in the middle of Deirdreâs chest. Her eyes began to water. How dare he tell her to calm down? How could he still be thinking about continuing this stupid charade!?
Deirdreâs head was spinning. She placed her hand against her temple and shut her eyes, gnashing her teeth to endure the pain before opening them again. She turned in Declanâs direction, her glassy eyes boring through his face.
âWho is Kyran Reed really?â
âWho is Kyran?â Declan paused. âEr, youâre losing me, Miss McKinnon. Kyran is, well, Kyran. Heâs my friend. My brother from another mother. What? You suspect he has a crimefighting alter ego or something?â
âYou really think this is the time to keep up this stupid charade!?â She exhaled, her fists tightening. She took a deep breath. âI heard what the nurses said. The man whoâs staying in No. 1106 is Brendan Brighthall. But Kyran is the one whoâs there, isnât he?
Which means Brendan and Kyran have been the same person this whole time! âKyran Reedâ doesnât exist! Heâs just a made-up person you people cooked up to. dupe me!
âSo now I want you to tell me, what drives both you and Brendan into making up this sick scheme just to fool me!?â
âWhat the h*ll!?â Declanâs denial erupted out of him in an instant. âKyran and Brendan are the same person!? This is nuts! Youâre suggesting that Kyran somehow duped me, too. Youâre telling me my friend has been the guy ruling the Brighthall Group from Neve this whole time!â
Deirdre frowned. His response was unexpected. She had thought that her candor would incite Declan into confessing their plot.
Instead, all it seemed to have done was piss off Declan. The young man tugged her by her sleeve and announced, âIâll gladly propose Kyranâs operation if it means this insanity gets resolved. Youâre coming with me!â
He began to trawl Deirdre to the nursesâ station.
Deirdre was confused⦠and hopeful. That ember of hope removed her will to struggle against him and follow him.
Declan wasted no time. âWhoâs the patient in Room 1106?â he asked coldly.
â1106?â The nurse checked the record and answered, âEr, Mr. Brendan Brighthall.â
Deirdre wanted to laugh at the absurdity of his action. Was he really that mulish in playing his part?
She was about to pull her wrist away from him when new footsteps approached them.
The older woman sounded like the head nurse, judging from the authority she exuded when she chided, âNot Brighthall, junior! Itâs Mr. Kyran Reed. Mr. Brighthallâs at No. 1109.â
The first nurse looked at the record again. âWait, what?â
âSave yourself the time to check, junior. That recordâs been outdated since the morning.
No one had the time to make a new one, but Mr. Brendan Brighthallâs room has been changed to 1109 because Mr. Kyran Reed is staying in Room 1106.â
Deirdre froze. Her feet seemingly turned to roots. Her body stiffened like a cactus.â 1109? Not⦠1106?
âKâKyran Reed and Brendan Brighthall⦠are not the same person, after all?â
Kyran was real. His gentle kindness was not a stintâit was real. Real!
âOh my God! Then⦠This means⦠This whole thing has been one gigantic misunderstanding!â
It was a fullâblown roller coaster ride. Deirdre did not even know if she wanted to laugh, cry, or both. All she knew was that when her highâstrung nerves suddenly relaxed, her feet could barely hold her up.
Declanâs voice hid a slight hint of smugness. âThere, you heard them, right? So⦠Are Kyran and this Brendan Brighthall the same guy or not?â
Deirdre bit her lip. This was completely outside her expectations. His room had simply been changed to another. They⦠were not the same person.
âGâGod, Iâ¦â She could hardly finish her sentence.
Declan softened his tone. âListen, Miss McKinnon. The right thing to do when youâre having trouble is to talk it out, not run away. This hospital is huge and hectic. If I lose you here, how am I supposed to explain myself to Kyran or Madame Russell?â
âI⦠Iâm sorry.â
Her mind was still blank when she lowered her wrists, which were now sore from Declanâs grip. âIâm blind, so I thought the two of you were preying on that with this sick jokeâ¦â
âEven if we were pulling a prank like that on you, the better action would be to confront us, wouldnât you agree? Why run away?â Declan replied, his eyes examining Deirdreâs visage like a hawk.
Any emotional display should clue him in on the young womanâs troubles. âPardon me for asking, butâ¦
Miss McKinnon, whatâs the deal with you and Brendan Brighthall?â
