Chapter 340 You Liked to Smile In the Past Kyran felt they were right. He looked at the road and replied with his phone, âOkay.â
As soon as he stopped the car, the snow got heavier.
Deirdre opened the door, and the icy wind that gusted across the courtyard felt like knives cutting into her skin.
After they got into the house, Eilis went to take some charcoal to set up a brazier in Kyranâs room. As for Deirdre, she helped Kyran make his bed.
She took off her snowâladen jacket and got to work.
Kyran looked around and picked up the picture on the table. There were four people in the picture, two young women, a boy, and a girl.
The girl was looking at the camera with two of her fingers stuck out. There was a bright smile on her face, and she was the one who stood out the most among the four people in the picture. The boy standing next to her was looking at her. Even though he tried to hide his emotion, Kyran could still see from his eyes that he had a thing for her.
Kyran looked at the girl and fell into contemplation.
âMr. Reed?â Deirdre called out to him, pulling back to reality. He put down the picture and turned over to get the blanket. Deirdre realized something and asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
âNothing,â replied Kyran. He hesitated for a moment and added, âI saw your photo when you were 17 or 18. You liked to smile a lot at that time.â
âPhoto?â Deirdre had already forgotten about the photo. âWhat photo?â
âIt looks like a family photo. I can see that one woman is Madame Russell when she was young. The girl is you, and I think the boy should be Tobey. As for the other woman, she should be your mother, right? After all, you two are very much alike,â said Kyran.
Deirdre was stunned. She did not expect that Tobey was still keeping the photo in his room. She set her jaw tightly and asked, âWhere is it?â
Kyran handed the photo to her. She grabbed it, and although she tried to open her eyes as wide as possible, she couldnât see anything. Despite that, her eyes were still glowing with light.
âIt was the happiest time in my life,â she said, smiling. âI didnât care how much I made. I just wanted my mother to live a better life. For this reason, I worked hard to learn to play the piano, wanting to achieve success. After my mother started to get sick, she spent most of her time in bed, so I dropped out of school and took over her work.
Although it was tiring, it was also very fulfilling.â
Kyran couldnât help but ask, âThen what happened next?â
âWhat happened next, huh?â The smile in Deirdreâs eyes melted away as coldness and indifference started to take hold. She clutched tightly at the photo and changed the topic.
âMr. Reed, can you do me a favor? Can you help me to make a copy of the photo?
Although I canât see it, at least Iâll have something to reminisce about.â
âSure. Give it to me.â
âThank you.â
Deirdre handed the photo to him. Just when she was about to return to her work, something snapped, and the entire room turned dark.
âWhat happened?â Deirdre raised her head.
Kyran couldnât see Deirdreâs face clearly in the dark. He raised his phone up and said, âI have no idea. The light just went off suddenly. Maybe itâs a power outage.â
Deirdre inched toward the door and opened it. At the same time, Eilis came out of the kitchen. She was boiling the water when the light went off.
âWhat happened, Madame Russell?â
âI think itâs a tripped breaker. Let me go and have a look.â
Kyran typed, âLet me do it. Iâm more experienced in this. Besides, itâs cold outside. You just warmed yourself up, so you should stay here.â
Deirdre put on her jacket and said, âIâll go with you.â
Kyran frowned. Before he could say anything, Deirdre said, âYou donât know where the switchboard is. You need me to take you there.â
Kyran did not stop her anymore. Deirdre was blind, so walking in the darkness was not a problem for her. After they opened the door, the snow was still falling.
