Chapter 236 Thought She Left Sam stood in the same spot while Deirdre walked ahead for two steps before she noticed that Sam was not by her side.
âSam?â
âIâm here.â Sam caught up to her in a few steps, and they walked together on the flat ground.
Deirdre said, âWhat happened? Why are you suddenly so quiet? I thought something bad had happened.â
Sam felt a tight knot in the pit of his stomach as he looked at Deirdreâs lively mannerisms, her smile, and her gentleness. He suddenly empathized with Brendanâs feelings.
If this lie can be sustained forever, will that be a good thing for Deirdre?â
âNothing much. I saw a child running about on the road earlier, so I stopped to check the traffic.â
âChildren are always mischievous.â Deirdreâs smile became frozen for a moment, but she quickly changed the conversation topic.
They were not far from the villa, so they chatted harmoniously while they walked and arrived at the courtyard soon.
However, Sam saw a tall and huge figure from afar, even before they reached the door.
Brendan had slippers on. Even though he had a trench coat draped over him, he was only wearing a thin shirt inside. He stood at the entrance door in the howling wind with a stern expression.
From the moment he saw Deirdre, he went from looking nervous to relieved. He took a few steps forward and hugged Deirdre tightly in his arms.
âWhy did you head out so suddenly?â he asked her coldly while his dark eyes stared at Sam. He warned her with a rigid voice, âYou didnât even inform anyone. Could it be that you have no idea that your mother would be worried?â
âMother?â Deirdre was jolted back to reality. She raised her head and said, âIs she awake? Iâm sorry. I woke up early on purpose, so I could get something and be back before she woke up. I didnât expect that I would be held up for so long that all of you are awake.â
âSheâs not awake yet. Itâs me.â Brendan glared at Deirdre with his sharp gaze and exerted strength in his grip over Deirdreâs arm from feeling stressed.
He was the one who had seen the opened door of Deirdreâs room and Deirdreâs missing pair of shoes and realized that Deirdre was out.
He was overwhelmed with emotions at that very moment, and way too many thoughts flashed past his mind.
âWhy did Deirdre leave? Why did she go out? Is she running away? Has she noticed Maeveâs disguise and chose not to speak a word of it so she can seize the opportunity to leave when I let down my guard?â
He felt his heart wrench in pain at the thought of the possibility. It was because perhaps he would not see Deirdre anymore for the rest of his life if that were the case.
He lost his senses and came outside wearing only his slippers and a trench coat.
âItâs you? Did you notice that I was gone?â Deirdre shook the bag in her hand. âDonât worry. I went to get some necessities. You should go inside.â
She could feel Brendanâs unusually cold body, and there was no telling how long he had been waiting for Chapter 236 Thought She Left her in the cold.
Dr. Ginger had also arrived after they headed inside. Noticing that Brendan did not look so good, Dr.
Ginger asked cautiously, âWhat happened?â
âNothing. I was out, and it was way too cold there,â answered Brendan.
Dr. Ginger was surprised and said, âWhy did you go outside when itâs so cold? I shall prepare some hot chocolate for everyone.â
He went bustling about in the kitchen while Brendan kept his gloomy expression. Sam was sensible enough to help out in the kitchen, leaving Brendan and Deirdre by themselves in the spacious living room.
His icy cold gaze did not leave Deirdre for even a moment, but Deirdre could not see and did not manage to notice anything unusual.
She was confused. She bit her lower lip and asked, âAre you angry?â
