Chapter 235 Still Alive and Doing Great Before Deirdre shut her eyes, she wrapped her arms around Maeveâs arm and said, âI feel lucky that youâre still alive, mother. Donât be saddened by dadâs death. Iâll protect you from now on, and I will live well for you.â
She fell asleep drowsily while Maeveâs eyes widened. She was so deeply moved by Deirdreâs remark that she didnât know what to say. What would the real Ophelia say at this very moment? She could not figure.
out an answer.
The phone in her pocket vibrated. She waited until Deirdre was in a deep sleep before she moved away Deirdreâs arms cautiously and got out of bed.
She walked out of the room to find Brendan smoking at the door. There were already a few cigarette butts scattered on the ground. His dark eyes were narrowed as he looked up to the first floor and said without even turning to Maeve, âIs Deirdre suspicious?â
Maeve shook her head. âIt is apparent that she isnât. Ms. McKinnon is very pure and will go straight to the point and express something that is bothering her, even if she does detect anything unusual, so I can explain myself to her. I believe that she is already fully convinced that Iâm Ophelia by now.â
âHmm.â Brendan looked at her sharply. âHowever, you shouldnât let down your guard just because of that. Deirdre is a very sensitive person.â
âAlright.â
âAlso, you should go out with her tomorrow. I can set my mind at ease knowing that youâre right by her side. You can go grocery shopping with her.â
The next dayâ¦
Deirdre woke up earlier than anybody else.
Sam was already guarding the door since early morning. He was stunned by the sight of Deirdre coming downstairs in thick clothing, the lively look on her face, and her energetic mannerism.
âGood morning, Ms. McKinnon.â
âGood morning, Sam.â Deirdre greeted Sam and said, âYou came at the right time. Will you help me to get some flannel fabric and sewing tools from the market since itâs still early?â
âWhat do you need those for, Ms. McKinnon?â
âI need them.â
Sam did not pursue the topic further. âLetâs go together.â
âHmm?â
âIâm a man and not very sure what flannel fabric looks like. It would be better for you to choose it yourself, Ms. McKinnon. However, itâs too cold outside, and I donât know if your body canâ¦â
âItâs fine!â Deirdre was becoming excited, yet she inhaled a deep breath to calm herself and said, âI can do it.â
She lowered her head and replied with a smile, âThank you.â
Sam was so charmed by her smile that he could not pull himself back to reality. Afterward, he cleared his head and took Deirdre to a sewing material shop to choose.
âUh, do you have a softer material? It would be best if the inner layer is thicker, so itâs windâresistant.â
The storekeeper brought over another type, and Deirdre expressed satisfaction after taking the material in her hand âThis is great, thank youâ
She carried the bag fully satisfied, and Sam took the bag from her. âIâll take this, Ms. McKinnon. Itâs very windy and cold outside. Your hands will freeze in the cold if you keep them out.â
âItâs fine. There are too many things. Iâll share some of your burden.â
Deirdre became much more talkative than before. Samâs gaze landed on Deirdreâs face, and he could not bring himself to look away after a long time.
âYou seem very happy, Ms McKinnon. Why is that so?â
âYou noticed that huh?â Deirdre clutched the bag tightly and exhaled a warm breath. âMy mother has been back since yesterday, and I can feel that her physical and mental health are much better. She feels like a different person, and Iâm quite happy about that.â
Sam was stunned as if he had been hit with a shocking blow. âIs that so? Your mother is back?â
âHmmâ Deirdre nodded and chuckled at herself. âI have you to thank for this, Sam. Had you not grabbed my hand the other day when I tried to commit suicide, I think I wouldnât have had the chance to meet my mother again today. It turns out that she is still alive and doing great.â
