Hearing Eudoraâs words, Naomi remembered it too.
âThatâs right. Where is Nelson?â
As they were talking, the door swung open, and a man came in.
âAre the both of you awake?â
Without thinking, Eudora got up and stood in front of Naomi.
âWhat do you want? Donât hurt us. Everything can be negotiated!â
After all, this was not her first kidnapping.
The man laughed instantly. He said, âVery well, I like talking with a straightforward person like you. But I havenât done thinking about what I want yet. Iâll tell you later!â
With that, the man was about to head out.
Naomi couldnât help but ask, âWhat about Nelson? What did you do to him?â
The man snorted and said, âNelson? Are you talking about the guy whoâs not afraid of death? Heâs not quite as smart as you are. He tried bargaining with us and asked us to let the both of you go first. He is quite the daydreamer, isnât he? Do you think itâs easy for us to kidnap you all? How dare he say that! We taught him a lesson. He should still be alive, though I bet he is not doing too well!â
Naomi was dumbfounded and exclaimed, âYou wonât get away with murder!â
The man sneered, âDo you think people like us are afraid of your threat?â
Eudora tugged at Naomi and shook her head at her.
âMy daughter is immature. Donât bother arguing with her. Nelson is a friend of hers. As long as you can ensure his safety, money is not an issue.â
The man snorted once more. He said, âUnlike kids nowadays, you are more polite. Letâs call it a day! Weâre tired of beating up the guy, so letâs rest until we figure out how much money we want!â
After that, the man turned around and left.
Naomi was a bundle of nerves as she said, âMom, will Nelson be okay?â
Eudora shook her head and reassured her, âDonât worry. People like them are after money, they probably wonât really kill anyone. When I have the chance, Iâll ask again.â
Naomi nodded and then looked at Eudora.
âMom, why did you stand in front of me just now? I know self defense. You donât have to protect me next time. I can protect you!â
Only then did Eudora come to her senses and said, âIâm fine. Itâs a motherâs instinct!â
â¦
Soon, dawn broke.
Amos still didnât find anything. Tina sent some food over and tried to persuade him.
âAmos, please eat something first! Eudora wonât feel at ease if she knew that you didnât eat or drink anything!â
Amos shook his head and rejected her, âNo, Iâll go and have a look again!â
He lost his appetite at the thought that Eudora might not get anything to eat.
Tina was helpless. She knew it would turn out like this. However, there was nothing she could do. She was in no mood for breakfast, let alone Amos.
After Amos went outside, his cell phone rang. He picked it up and asked anxiously.
âSpeak!â
Harley spoke solemnly, âThe perpetrators are very likely to be a group of kidnappers that weâve been investigating recently. This crew has been kidnapping and blackmailing rich people for moneyâ¦â
Harley hesitated for a moment, and Amosâs heart skipped a beat.
âWhat else?â
âItâs nothingâ¦â
âSay it! What else have they done?â
Only then did Harley tell him. He said, âThey are quite ruthless. There were a few times that the hostages were murdered even after getting the money!â
The words sent a chill down Amosâs spine, and he clenched his fist tightly.
Amos gritted his teeth while replying, âThat wonât happen! Eudora and Naomi can take care of themselves. We shouldnât waste time worrying about them. The most important thing right now is to find them! Where are they?â
Harley passed the phone to Clint. Clint answered his question, âWe only have a rough idea. We are still trying to locate them more preciselyâ¦â
âWhere is it?â Amos got impatient.
Clint frowned and said, âSir, the area in question is quite wide. Itâs better to wait for usâ¦â
âTell me!â Amos scolded in a harsh voice.
âSirâ¦â
âI canât wait here. Continue with your investigation. Just tell me the approximate location first. Iâll go there myself!â
Clint had no choice but to tell him about it.
âRoadside surveillance recorded a car going down the mountain. We could only make out a vague image of the vehicle, but it is probably not far from the foot of the mountain. There is a forest nearby, we suspectâ¦â
Before Clint could finish his words, Amos hung up.
Amos finally came to his senses. He had thought that they would be still on the mountain. But, how could that be?
The mountain was his territory, they would definitely not stay here.
They would be discovered if they did so.
However, they couldnât go too far, so the best place for them to hide was the foot of the mountain!
Once he cleared his thoughts, he rushed towards the location that Clint had sent him.
â¦
On the other side, the men had left and hadnât come back. It wasnât until lunchtime when someone came to deliver lunch to them that Eudora took the opportunity to ask.
âHave you made up your mind? We want to go homeâ¦â
The man snorted and said, âI respect you for being straightforward, but donât push it. Do you need to be reminded who the kidnappers are here?â
Eudora nodded at once and replied, âYes, of course, youâre the one in charge here, Iâm just asking. Howâs Nelson doing?â
âHeâs not going to die!â The man stormed out after saying that.
It wasnât until he was outside that he started complaining hushedly.
âDamn it, Iâve never been so mad! How did I end up being questioned by the hostage?â
Another man burst into laughter.
âWhatâs wrong? Canât you stand it anymore?â
âYeah! They are the wife and daughter of the richest man in Rosaville City! I think he would pay up even if we demanded a billion dollars. With all that money, we could quit!â
The other man was delighted and said,âItâs possible, right?â
âHow is that possible? Didnât we agree with the people who hired us that weâre just here to teach them a lesson?â
âYes! But after the lesson, we get the final say, donât we? There is no need for people like us to be ethical.â
The two of them exchanged a dirty look and grinned simultaneously.
âYouâre right! I am too dumb, I should have thought of that!â
As soon as he finished his words, two people in masks came in. The one in front seemed like a woman judging by her figure.
The one standing behind was the one who hired them to kidnap Eudora and Naomi.
Both of the kidnappers stopped talking and got up to welcome them.
âYouâre here at last! What shall we do next? They are restless!â
The woman in the lead seemed surprised.
âRestless? Who?â
âMrs. Granger! She said she wanted to pay the ransom and go home as soon as possible!â
The woman smiled faintly and said, âDid you really believe her?â
