Naomi took a step back and fled.
Nelsonâs lips curled into a smile as he looked at her escaping.
â¦
Naomi received a call from Eudora the next night.
âHowâs your stay with Master Clarke going? Did he scold me again for not visiting him frequently?â
Naomi felt a little bit guilty.
She said in a low voice, âMom, Master Clarke is not as bad as you say. He only complained a little!â
âThatâs good then! Put him on the phone. I have something to say to him.â
Naomiâs heart skipped a beat. Where could she find Master Clarke at this moment? She had a sudden inspiration and hurriedly moved her phone further away. âMom, what did you say? Iâm practicing in the forest. The signal isnât very good hereâ¦â
Then, she hung up on the call!
Naomi took a deep breath, and Nelsonâs soft laughter rang behind her.
âThe nose of a liar will grow longer!â
That was the lesson people used to teach them when they were children. Now that she heard it again, it was quite refreshing.
âI was not lying, itâs called a white lie.â
Naomi pursed her lips before saying, âIf Mom finds out that Iâm here taking care of you, sheâll definitely get worried. Itâs better not to tell her so that she can be at peace.â
Nelson said with a frown, âWeâll definitely be together in the future though. Are we going to sneak around like this for the rest of our lives?â
Naomi was also in a dilemma as she insisted, âMy parents still need more time!â
Before Naomi could finish her words, Nelson suddenly held her hand.
âWill you marry me?â
Naomi was taken aback and said, âWhat did you just say?â
She did not expect that Nelson would propose to her at this moment. Naomi did not even have the slightest bit of mental preparation, and she had no idea how to react at all.
Upon hearing her question, Nelson instantly went down on one knee.
âNaomi, I know that what Iâm saying is too sudden, but Iâm being sincere! I really want to marry you and be with you together forever, alright?â
There was a buzz in Naomiâs mind as she replied, âLet me think about it!â
Nelson nodded, âItâs okay, thereâs no rush. You can take your time to think about it. No matter how long it takes, I will wait for you!â
The two fell silent after they discussed the topic of marriage.
The next day, Nelson woke up early in the morning.
He suggested, âWhy donât we go out and buy some ingredients?â
Naomi was surprised and she asked, âIs it because youâre tired of drinking soup?â She didnât know how to cook, therefore she had tried different soup recipes for the past few days.
They mostly tasted mild and light.
Nelson shook his head and said, âOf course not. Even if I drink your soup for the rest of my life, I wonât grow tired of them. Itâs just that Iâm worried that youâre tired of having the same dishes.â
Naomiâs ears were hot as she said, âAlright, let me get something first then weâll go out together!â
There was a shopping mall nearby. After they went in, Nelson immediately started to place different ingredients into their shopping cart, such as beef, lamb, pork ribs, chicken chop and many more.
Naomi followed behind, her heart trembling with fear as she had no clue how to cook them.
Therefore, she placed the ingredients back on the shelves while Nelson was not looking. After Nelson walked around for a while, he turned around only to find pork ribs left in the basketâ¦
Nelson was rendered speechless.
âWhere are the ingredients I picked?â
Naomi pretended to be ignorant and said, âI donât know. Did you take them in the first place?â
Nelson saw through her but said nothing, âMaybe I remembered wrongly. Iâll get them again, then!â
âYou donât need them, right? Actually, I think itâs quite beneficial for you to drink soup as it can help to heal your wounds! Why donât we buy another fish? Iâll make you some soup!â
Nelsonâs lips curled into a smile and said, âYou really donât like those ingredients? What if I told you that Iâll cook them?â
Naomiâs eyes lit up. Truth be told, she disliked mild dishes. After all, Eudoraâs cooking was incredibly delicious, and Amosâ cooking skills were decent too.
She grew up in such an environment, therefore she had high standards for food.
However, Nelson was not in good health. She did not dare to try to cook those flavorful dishes as she was afraid that the house would be destroyed during the process and they would have nowhere else to stay.
She could only endure everything and eat plain food.
âForget it! Your wounds havenât healed yet.â
Nelson stroked the top of her head and said, âThen, you can help me and weâll cook them together!â
Naomiâs eyes lit up again and said, âOkay!â
In the next instant, Naomi was pushing the shopping cart back to the meat section, over the moon.
She placed all the meat that she had just previously put away, back into the basket.
On their way back, Naomi thought about what to eat.
âLetâs make meatballs and steak. Should we also use the potatoes to make loaded baked potatoes? The lamb for some pie?â
Nelson looked at her as she named all the dishes that she wanted to eat, and for some reason, his heart calmed down.
âOkay. As long as you like something, Iâll make it for you.â
When they returned, Naomi could not wait any longer. She took the ingredients and washed them up immediately. Then, she began cutting them.
After Nelson changed his clothes and entered the kitchen, Naomi had already made a huge mess of the kitchen.
Although she practiced the art of self-defense, it was her first time preparing salmon, therefore she was having a hard time plucking the bones out.
When she saw Nelson entering, she shouted, âDonât move. The ground is wet. If you fall, it wonât be good!â
In the next second, she lost her balance and slipped down with a thump.
Nelsonâs eyes were sharp and his hands were nimble as he grabbed hold of her. The two of them were pressed tightly together, facing each other.
Naomi once again felt her heart beating rapidly.
It wasnât until the kitchen timer rang then only did they snap out of the moment.
Nelson stretched his hand out and took the apron off the wall. He said, âWhen youâre preparing the ingredients, remember to put on an apron. That way, you wonât make a mess and get water on the ground.â
Naomiâs hands were still covered with water. After Nelson finished speaking, he directly wrapped his arms around her back. His warm chest enveloped her, shocking her till she was unable to react.
It was clear that her ears were flushed red again, and Nelson deliberately refused to let her go. He held her in his arms and helped her to tie the apron. After a long while then only was he done with it and let her go.
âItâs done!â
Naomi let out a sigh of relief. The next second, Nelson unexpectedly took out another apron and handed it to her.
âItâs your turn to help me.â
Naomi froze and stuttered, âMy handsâ¦â
âI canât tie the apron myself or the wound will split open!â
As soon as she heard his words, Naomi immediately went to dry her hands. She took the apron and stood behind him.
Her body size was different from his. Due to her small size, she needed to tiptoe to reach his neck. Although he looked thin, at such a close distance, she could feel his firm muscles.
He was the type that looked slender with clothes, but muscular without them.
Naomi finally finished tying his apron as she blushed again. She hurriedly made an excuse and said that she was going to wash her face, then went out.
When she returned again, Nelson had already prepared the salmon, and everything on the stove had been cleaned up.
The ingredients had all been prepared and were ready to be cooked.
Naomi couldnât hide her astonishment and said, âHow did you get everything done so quickly?â
Nelson shook his head and said, âItâs not a big deal. Arenât you taking the lead today? Iâll be your sous chef today!â
