During weekdays, Leslie would pick up Juju after class.
Therefore, Sugar bun would be the only one at home.
When Eudora entered the house, she noticed that Sugar Bun was not in the living room.
After she placed down the groceries she had bought, she saw Amos coming down from the stairs.
âSugar Bun is asleep. If you are busy at night, you donât have to cook.â
âNo, Iâm not busy,â Eudora shook her head hurriedly.
Initially, she felt a bit embarrassed at the thought of having to suck up to Amos while Sugar Bun was awake.
Now that he was asleep, she could do so without needing to worry!
Yet, she completely missed the smirk on Amosâ face, as though he was slowly luring a prey into his trap.
âIf thatâs the case, let me help you!â Amos offered as he rolled up his sleeves.
However, Eudora stopped him and said, âHow can I make you help me? Youâre already doing a lot taking care of the children at home. You donât have to help me since I donât cook often, and this meal is something I want to make for you as thanks for what youâve done so far! Now that Sugar Bun is asleep, you can take this chance to do something youâd like to do.â
âDidnât you like to play chess? Or watch the financial channel on television, or read some booksâ¦â
Amos could not interrupt her at all. In the end, she shoved him out of the kitchen.
This confirmed whatever he was thinking about. However, he played along with her and went to the living room to watch some television.
â¦
After Eudora sent Amos out of the kitchen, she started preparing the dishes calmly.
She made sure to make all of Amosâs favorite dishes. After she had done cooking, she started plating the dishes on the table, even lighting up the candle she had bought to concoct a romantic dinner atmosphere.
âAlright, itâs time to eat!â
As soon as Amos turned around, he saw a grand candlelight dinner prepared for him.
âDidnât you say that today was a normal day? Why are you being so romantic?â
âItâs really nothing! Candlelight dinners are supposed to be eaten with steak and wine, but I know you donât really like steak. Hence, I replaced it with some of your favorite dishes. Do you think itâs a little strange?â
Amos shook his head and smiled, âNo, itâs not.â
âThatâs great. Try some salad and tell me if itâs good or not.â
Amos took a bite and complimented her, âItâs delicious.â
âWhat about the casserole?â
âItâs pretty good.â
âTry the mushroom soup too!â
âThat tastes amazing!â
In short, no matter what he ate, he would tell her that it was delicious.
Eudora was hopeful about finding a chance for her to slip in her request during their conversation. However, she didnât even manage to find the right timing to do so.
After giving it some thought, she decided to change her tactics.
âDo you want a drink? I bought a bottle of your favorite wine. Let me get it for you!â
Amos nodded.
Eudora got up happily to grab the bottle of wine. She did not notice that Amos was cooperating with her very well throughout the night!
The only thing on her mind now was how she was close to succeeding!
She quickly opened the wine and poured a glass for both of them. Eudora looked at Amos and said, âHere, cheers!â
Amos took a sip, âItâs good!â
Eudora also took a sip. However⦠it wasnât as good as she thought it was!
She bought the wine with the intention to get Amos drunk but she had forgotten that she could not handle alcohol well! She already felt a little dizzy after taking one sip.
However, she couldnât retreat here! Eudora quickly flashed Amos a smile.
âLetâs toast again!â
Amos handed the empty glass to her. His gaze was focused on her now blurred gaze as he smirked.
âEudora, do you have something to tell me?â
Eudora froze. Thankfully, she was still slightly sober. She tried to cover her intentions up and shook her head, âNo! Of course not!â
âOh?â Amos continued smiling eerily, âIs that so?â
He reached out and caressed her cheek with his bony fingers.
âI donât like liars!â
His voice was deep and hoarse, tugging at oneâs heartstrings the minute he opened his mouth. In fact, Eudora was also entranced.
Just like that, she began to reveal everything!
Although she subconsciously knew that she couldnât say it, she couldnât stop herself from telling him aloud.
âIâm not a liar. I just⦠I just have something to discuss with you!â
She chose her words carefully, as though she was a child who had done something wrong. Amosâs heart warmed at the sight of her. He picked her up gently and placed her on his lap.
âGo ahead!â
Eudora hesitated for a while before she asked him.
âWell⦠Something happened in my company and I might need to go on a business trip for a while!â
A business trip? Amos instantly felt worried. His heart tightened as he asked, âFor how long?â
Since she spent so much time and effort preparing such a grand meal just to convince him to allow her to go on a business trip, it had to be for a long time! What a liar!
Eudora stretched a finger out and looked at him in a daze.
She was already tipsy. Her cheeks were flushed, making her whole face look like a bright red apple!
Amos remained calm and tried his best not to be bewitched by her expression. He answered coldly.
âA day?â
âNoâ¦â Eudora groaned and shook her head, âGuess again.â
Amos frowned and asked, âOne week?â
âNoâ¦â This time, Eudora smiled mischievously as she said, âLonger than that!â
He was already very unhappy if she was leaving for a week. Now, she was hinting that it would be longer than that?
âHave you forgotten about your bodyâs condition? Previously when you caught a cold, I asked the doctor about your health. The doctor said that your body deteriorated a lot after giving birth to Sugar Bun, and your immune system is weak too! Itâs best if you donât simply run around to places where you arenât familiar with, or you will easily get sick!â
Eudoraâs brain had stopped functioning properly.
She looked at Amos in confusion and asked, âWhat did you say? I could not hear you clearly!â
Amos was annoyed as he sighed, âYou⦠Anyway, I wonât allow you to go! Why donâtâ¦â
He was going to suggest inviting the other party to Rosaville City instead. Even before he could finish his sentence, Eudora had pursed her lips and started crying.
âI hate you! How can you do this!â
Amos frowned and coaxed her, âDonât be stubborn. Even if you cry, I will not be softhearted!â
âI donât want you to be softhearted! I just want to go. Itâs my job. As I said, I want to try my best to be your equal.â
Every time she brought that up, Amos was unable to say no to her.
âFine. Iâll go with you then!â
âI donât need you to go with me. They want to meet me, and I donât want to bring you with me. If you insist on going, I wonât talk to you anymore!â
Amos said helplessly, âDo you really have to? Youâre already doing really well nowâ¦â
He originally wanted to tell her that since she already fulfilled her dreams, was it really necessary for her to work this hard?
However, these words were stuck in his throat.
Eudora had worked so hard and was already succeeding. As her husband, he should let her spread her wings and fly!
However, he was still very worried about her body condition!
Yet, she didnât want to have him follow her. Moreover, Sugar Bun was still at home, and he couldnât always follow her wherever she went.
In the end, Amos let out a resigned sigh.
âForget it, you can go! I respect your wishes. Iâll take care of the children at home and wait for your return!â
