Elaine replied, âOh? Iâm not very sure either. When I came out just now, I heard her assistant calling her. I think itâs about her daughter!â
âHer daughter? Whatâs wrong?â
Elaine was surprised, âWhatâs up with you? Donât you think that youâre paying too much attention to Miss George? Donât tell me that youâve taken a fancy to her!â
Sawyer did not reply, looking as gloomy as before.
Elaine rolled her eyes and said, âEvery time I criticize you, you show me this reaction. I donât know what to do with you. I donât think a big deal happened. It seems that her daughter had some misunderstandings with her!â
Sawyerâs finger paused. To others, that might not be a big deal.
However, Eudora loved her two children very much. She had suffered a lot when she had been pregnant with Juju and Sugar Bun.
If Juju really had misunderstood her, how could she stand it?
No wonder her eyes had been swollen when he had seen her!
At the thought of that, Sawyer stopped the car by the side of the road.
âI have something to do. You can drive there yourself!â
Elaine was dumbfounded, âHey, Sawyer, are you kidding me? You said you were going to be my driver today. Now, youâre running away?â
However, Sawyer had already gone far away!
Elaine was speechless. She kicked the wheel of the car and drove away.
After leaving the car, Sawyer took a taxi straight to the outskirts of the city.
Juju was training here every day. On the current day, she was undergoing shooting practice. However, it was different from the day before. This time, she had a moving target.
Leslie had arranged for people to set up obstacles and targets in the woods. Juju would have to follow the route without missing a target in order to be considered her attempt a success.
She had passed all of the tests before this. The last checkpoint was located a little further away.
Raymond was supposed to follow her, but Leslie stopped him.
âItâs extremely safe here. Itâs time for her to toughen up on her own!â
Raymond stopped following her.
Juju looked at the dark woods and was afraid. However, she was stubborn. Once she had decided on something, it would be difficult to change her mind.
She still went ahead towards the next checkpoint.
However, it was not as easy as expected.
When Juju turned around and aimed at the target, a black shadow destroyed it right in front of her.
Juju was stunned and looked at the figure.
âDo you work for Master Clarke?â she asked.
Sawyer had initially merely wanted to find an opportunity to get close to Juju, but he did not expect her to mistake him for Leslieâs subordinate.
He thought that that would work too, so he nodded.
âYes!â he replied.
Looking at the target that had been destroyed, she lowered her head in disappointment, âIâve failed!â
Before Sawyer could say a word, she added, âYou wonât get another chance next time!â
The stubborn look on Jujuâs face overlapped the image of Eudoraâs face in his mind.
They were indeed mother and daughter, both equally stubborn.
He paused for a second and said, âFine! However, since youâve lost, you should be punished, donât you think?â
Juju was indeed smart. She noticed that something was amiss.
âYouâre not Master Clarkeâs subordinate, are you? He didnât mention anything about punishment. Who the hell are you?â
As she spoke, she pointed the arrowhead at him.
Sawyer was speechless.
Should he be gratified or depressed?
The sad thing was that she was overly difficult to approach! The lucky thing was that she really was intelligent.
âI am indeed not Leslieâs subordinate. Why donât I tell you the truth, and you do the same?â
âTell me what you want to say first!â Juju said coldly.
Sawyer realized that it would be impossible to deceive her. However, he could lie about some parts.
He realized he could do that.
Thus, he replied, âActually, Clint sent me here! He knows about what happened between you and your mother, so he asked me to come here to see you.â
He saw that Juju was not convinced.
He continued, âI know your name. Itâs Naomi George!â
Only a few people knew Jujuâs real name. So, she let her guard down a little. However, she was still a little hesitant.
âWhy did Uncle Clint send you here?â
Sawyer sat down next to Juju, âYesterday, did your mother come to see you?â
Juju was stunned for a moment before nodding, âYes!â
âWas there any misunderstanding between the two of you?â asked Sawyer.
Juju shook his head, âNo. I know Mom loves me, and I love Mom back too. Itâs just that I donât want her to find an excuse to bring me home.â
Sawyer was confused, âWhy do you think that? Donât you want to be with your family?â
After all, Juju was still a child. Truth be told, she already had a lot of things that she wanted to say from her heart.
However, she could not find a suitable person to vent it all out towards while staying in Leslieâs place.
When Eudora had arrived, Juju really had wanted to talk to her. However, the rational side of her told her to not get too close to Eudora. Otherwise, her mother would definitely bring her home.
She could not go back.
However, Sawyer was different. She wasnât that familiar with him. Naturally, he would not care much about her familyâs situation. Additionally, since he was with Clint, he was trustworthy.
She could not hold it in any longer.
So, she slowly confessed, âOf course, I want to be with my family, but Iâve promised my father that Iâll take good care of Mom and Sugar Bun! Now, Mom is working hard every day and has to take care of many other things. Sugar Bun is still young, so I want to take off some of Mommyâs burdens.â
Sawyer had never imagined that that would be her reason. He felt a dull pain in his heart, as if he had been struck by something.
He subconsciously raised his head and thought of rubbing her head. However, he stayed still and did nothing more.
He calmed himself down for a while.
Then, he said, âActually, your mother isnât an irrational person, is she? Sheâll listen to whatever you tell her, am I right?â
Juju shook her head, âWhat if she doesnât listen though?â
âThereâs no âwhat ifâ. Donât you trust your mother? Do you know how sad she was after you said that to her yesterday? Her eyes were swollen today! Think about it carefully. Has your mother not listened to your advice before so far?â
Juju looked at him suspiciously and asked, âHow would you know about that?â
Sawyer kept quiet.
âI heard it from Uncle Clint! I think you should trust your mother. Thatâs the only way to solve the problem from its roots.â
Juju pinched her fingers, âIs Mom really that sad?â
âOf course! Unless you want her to be sad forever, thenâ¦â
âNo!â Juju stood up immediately. âDad told me to take care of Mom. I canât make her sad.â
After that, she picked up her things and turned back the way she had come.
âI want to make myself clear to Mom!â
After a few steps, she recalled that she had not bid Sawyer farewell yet. When she turned around, she realized that no one was there anymore.
