Eudora calmed herself down, mustered a smile, and then walked in Gordonâs direction.
He had just been chased by those people, so he was acting like a frightened bird. He curled up in a corner of the corridor, and lowered his head to protect himself.
As Eudora looked down from her point of view, she saw his white hair at first glance. Her eyes immediately reddened, and even her nose started twitching.
âDadâ¦â
Her voice held a tearful tone, which finally attracted Gordonâs attention.
When Gordon raised his head and saw that it was her, he immediately heaved a sigh of relief.
âMiss, itâs you! Iâm not your father. Tell them that Iâm not sick. Iâm going home to buy my daughter a sparkler. Iâm not accepting treatment.â
Eudora nodded, âOkay, thereâs no treatment.â
âReally? Is there really no treatment? Do you promise?â
âOf course Iâll keep my promise. I just want to play a game with you,â Eudora replied.
She remembered that she had seen a saying somewhere a long time ago, that when a person grew older, they would become more like a child.
Therefore, she tried to speak to him in a childlike tone.
Sure enough, Gordon was attracted by her proposal. His eyes slightly lit up, and he asked, âWhat game? Is it fun?â
âItâs fun!â Eudora smiled and continued, âIf you win, then Iâll accompany you to find Eudora.â
Gordon immediately nodded and agreed, âOkay! How do we play?â
Eudora pointed to the nurses standing in front, âThey are our comrades, and weâre playing a game of catching bacteria. When we have our meals, bacteria can roam around everywhere in your tummy. Now, weâre going for an examination and then weâll remove the bacteria. Once the bacteria is gone, then you can go home and see your daughters!â
Gordon looked as though he had just realized something, and he said, âOh! I know. If I go home with bacteria, itâll spread to my daughters. Then, theyâll fall sick! I canât do that.â
âThatâs right!â Eudora nodded.
âThen, letâs go catch the bacteria!â
After that, Gordon proactively stretched out his hands to the nurses and said, âLetâs start!â
The nurses looked at Eudora with admiration, âMiss George, you always have a good solution.â
Eudora remained silent, but Gordon, who was going to leave with the nurses, suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around.
âMiss, arenât you playing the game with me? Letâs go together!â
Eudora froze, âYou go first!â
However, Gordon refused. âWeâre supposed to play together, so why should I go first? Do you think that Iâm dumb?â
Eudora fell speechless.
After he finished speaking, Gordon just grabbed Eudoraâs hand, and headed towards the examination room.
Once they had entered, every time Gordon did a test, he would also call out for Eudora. He would either say âyou go firstâ or âyouâre on that side, and Iâm on this side.â
Eudora felt helpless as she retorted, âBut our conditions are different!â
Gordon instantly grew unhappy, and his face was full of displeasure, âYou lied to me!â
Eudora was struck speechless.
There was no other way, so she gave way to him, âAlright, you stay over there, Iâll stay over here. Weâll do it together, and letâs see who defeats the bacteria first.â
Gordon nodded. He was obviously more than half a century old, but at that moment he had an ecstatic and satisfied smile on his face, as if he were a child.
Eudora had initially felt a little frustrated, but her heart instantly softened.
Gazing at the man who had used to protect and hold the sky up for her, who now had become someone who needed her to protect him, this was actually also one of lifeâs many hurdles.
As Eudora was doing the tests with him, Gordon cooperated obediently. An hour later, the test results were out.
The doctor held the report in his hand and spoke to Eudora solemnly, âBased on the overall results, his condition has deteriorated faster than it should. He had probably been heavily affected by some things, which in turn affected his mental health.â
Eudoraâs heart sank. It was true that too much had happened within this past year.
Feliciaâs departure, Keshaâs passingâ¦
âDoctor, please arrange for his treatment!â Eudora pleaded.
The doctor shook his head and continued, âThereâs no possible cure for this sickness. We can only rely on medicine to control it, and his children should keep him company as much as possible. Hopefully he can enjoy his late years in peace.â
Eudora nodded and looked back at Gordon, who was smiling at her.
He saw that her eyes were reddening again.
Gordon hurriedly said to her, âDo you miss your father? I miss my daughters very much, but Iâve never been able to find them. They must not want to forgive me!â
Eudora quickly shook her head, âNo, they must be like my father, whoâs looking for me too. Itâs just that he canât find me at the moment. Come back with me, and weâll wait together for them to come find us, okay?â
Gordon frowned, âWill we really be able to wait for them to come?â
âYes!â
Charlie hesitated. âMadam, are we sending Mr. George back to the nursing home then?â
âNo!â Eudora replied, âInform the nursing home that I want to personally take care of my father from now on!â
Charlie nodded, and immediately went out to arrange for their transportation.
As the sky was getting dark, Eudora finally took Gordon back to the small wooden cabin in the countryside.
When Tina and the others saw that Eudora had brought Gordon back, they did not say anything and immediately brought extra dining utensils.
âLetâs eat together!â
Gordon was really hungry, but he did not move. Instead, he looked at Eudora expectantly.
The look in his eyes was exactly like Jujuâs when she was craving something. Eudoraâs heart warmed.
She quickly said to him, âSit down, letâs eat together!â
Only then did Gordon sit down happily.
Juju recognised Gordon, but she had just started greeting Tyler as her grandpa recently, so now she did not know how to address Gordon.
In the end, Eudora told her, âItâs fine to just greet him as Grandpa.â
Gordon immediately waved his hand and said, âIâm not your grandpa, but you can call me Sir. I donât have a granddaughter yet, but Iâm sure that Kesha and Eudora will have kids in the future, then Iâll want them to call me Grandpa.
Juju curiously looked at Eudora and asked, âMom, is Grandpa talking about you and Auntie Kesha?â
Tina and Christopher also looked at her curiously.
Eudora hurriedly shook her head, âLetâs eat first. Weâll talk about this after dinner!â
It had been a tiring day. After dinner, Eudora took the medicine prescribed by the hospital and handed it to Gordon.
âAfter taking the medicine, have a shower and go to bed!â
Gordon nodded and held the medicine in his hands, but he refused to take it. Eudora quickly handed a cup to him and asked, âDo you want this?â
Gordon pointed to Eudoraâs palm and asked, âWhat about yours? Werenât we supposed to drive the bacteria away together?â
Eudora fell silent.
He still had not forgotten about that. His memory appeared to be fine. Didnât the doctor say that Alzheimerâs patients didnât have good memories?
Eudora had no choice, so she went to get some vitamins. The two stood firmly face-to-face.
âLetâs start. Weâll take it together.â
Once her sentence ended, Gordon hastily put the medicine into his mouth, as though worried that Eudora would win against him.
âI won!â he smiled brightly.
