Right before her eyes, it was as though every moment that she and Amos had been through together appeared again.
When she was in danger, he was always the first to stand guard in front of her.
When she was sad, he held her in his arms without hesitation.
They had embraced one another in the falling autumn leaves and had played together in the snow. He said that he would be with her for the rest of her life!
Eudora quickly sat up and realized that she had already come back to Clearwater Bay. Helen stood by the bed, looking at her with red eyes.
âYouâre awake? Iâve conducted a checkup on you. You havenât had much rest recently, and your body isnât very healthy either, so thatâs why you fainted. Cindy has prepared some things for you to eat. Do have some first!â
Eudora didnât say anything. She lifted her eyes at Helen expectantly.
She lifted her eyes at Helen expectantly, âWhere is Amos? Didnât I carry him back? Where did he go?â
Helen shook her head and replied, âYouâd better eat something first. Youâve been knocked out for three days. Iâll tell you once youâve eaten something.â
âI donât want to eat!â
Eudora shook her head and refused. âI wonât eat. Tell me right now. Whereâs Amos? Where did he go?â
Helen opened her mouth, with tears rolling down from the corner of her eyes.
âPresident Granger⦠Heâs gone. Miss George, you have to stay strong.â
Helenâs words were like a bolt of lightning, striking directly down on Eudora. She was dazed as if she was about to solidify into a statue.
A long moment passed.
Eudora said in a hoarse voice, âYouâre lying to me.â
Helen sniffled and said, âIâm not lying to you. Miss George, President Granger really is gone. The bomb was too powerful. Wesley was blasted beyond recognition on the spot. He had blocked President Granger with his own body, but President Granger still couldnât be saved. My father is also devastated. He had tried for a long time to revive him, butâ¦â
âI donât believe you!â Eudora struggled to get up from the bed, âIâll die before believing you, for I didnât see it happen with my own eyes!ââ
As she finished talking, she ran outside on her own.
Her arm was still connected to an IV drip, and it started heavily bleeding as she tugged it away. It was a horrifying sight.
Helen hurried to help, but Eudora had already pulled out the catheter and ran downstairs, barefooted.
No one was downstairs, and neither were the two children. Only Cindy rushed out of the kitchen frantically to stop Eudora.
âMadam, where are you going? Your body is still very frail. Youâd better not go out!â she said.
Eudora ignored her and continued walking out on her own.
Cindy could only call for Charlie again. He swooped in from outside and blocked Eudoraâs path.
âMadam, are you looking for Miss Juju and Sugar Bun? Donât worry. They are all fine. Mr. Louis and Miss Stewart came by this morning. They were worried that the two children would be anxious after staying at home, so they brought them away⦠They will be sent home laterâ¦â
Eudora shook her head and said, âYouâre lying to me. In this current situation, Harley and Thea couldnât have possibly taken the children away. Tell me, did Amos bring them out to have fun? Itâs because I canât go out, so they didnât wake me.â
She lied to herself as best as she could, as if to assure herself that Amos was still alive.
Charlie opened his mouth with his voice choking, âMadam, please donât be like thisâ¦â
Helen came down and saw the three of them standing still in the living room. Finally, she could not hold back any longer.
She raised her voice, yelling, âEudora, can you stop deceiving yourself? You saw with your own eyes before you fell unconscious. You know that heâs already gone. Why are you so stubborn? Yes, Sugar Bun and Juju werenât taken away by Harley. Theyâre attending Amosâ funeral! Are you happy now?
Eudora turned around in a daze with only one word buzzing in her head. Funeral?
Amosâ funeral?
Helen was still speaking. âCould you be a little stronger? If President Granger was still around, would he like seeing you look like this? Moreover, itâs not only your own company which you have to manage right now. The Valiant East Group is also in a messâ¦â
âWhat do I need those things for?â
Eudoraâs loud shout interrupted Helenâs words.
âWhat are wealth and power? What do I need those things for? All I want is just Amos! All I want is for the four of us to be a happy family together. Why? Why canât the heavens give me a chance?â
Helen frowned and wanted to continue speaking, but Charlie shook his head and said, âMiss Leon, please stop! Madam is also devastated!â
As the two were talking, Eudora suddenly ran out past Charlie.
He quickly chased after her but saw that she had already gotten into a car and she was speeding away from Clearwater Bay.
His heart clenched, and he hurried to go after her.
As he walked, he made a call to Clint.
âBad news. Madam has found out about the news! Sheâs driving out on her own, probably heading to the funeral. Iâm worried that something might happen on the way, so you should hurry to tell Mr. Louis about this. Tell him to ask the coworkers to watch out for her on the road!â
Harleyâs face fell. Coincidentally, things on his end had not ended yet, so he immediately said to Christopher, âIâll leave this place to you. Keep an eye on the situation here. Iâll be right back.â
At the same time, Eudora was driving at a high speed on the road. Several police cars followed her to maintain order, but she still refused to stop.
When Harley arrived, he saw her car speeding as if it was about to reach the sky, but it would not stop at all.
Right in front of them was a big truck heading their way. Trouble was just waiting to happen.
All of a sudden, Harley raised a photo of Amos and stood in front of her.
Eudoraâs distracted eyes suddenly seemed sharpened into focus. At that moment when she got extremely close to Harley, she finally stopped the car.
She looked straight at Amosâ photo. Harley walked over and opened the car door.
âEudoraâ¦â
She reached out her hand to take the photo, but the traffic officers who had been chasing after her immediately rushed forward to hold her down.
âHer speeding on the road has heavily affected road safety. We have to bring her back for indictment immediately!â they said.
Holding onto the photo of Amos, she finally came to her senses and frantically struggled.
âIâm not going. I want to see Amos! I beg you. Please let me see Amos!â
The traffic police officers thought she was insane upon seeing her mental state. They turned to Harley with an accusing look. âAre you her family member? Her current behavior is affecting others. As her family, why arenât you paying attention to her?â
Harleyâs eyes went red. The Eudora in front of him no longer looked the same as the one Amos had doted on.
In the past, Amos would hold her precious in the palm of his hands, afraid that she would fall and break.
However, now, Eudora was barefoot with cotton pajamas on, and her hair was disheveled. She completely looked like a crazy woman.
If Amos saw her in this state, how sad would he be?
âEudora!â Harley sobbed. âDonât be like this. My brother, Amos loved seeing you look beautiful and bright. How sad would he be if he sees you like this? Listen to me. Change your clothes, and once youâve cleaned up, Iâll take you to see him, okay?â
She shook her head, and her lips kept muttering something.
Harley leaned in to listen, and a lump came to his throat.
