âI would hate you had you stopped me!â Vivian stated. âHe deserved to die!â
âAlright, alright,â Eudora was worried that speaking on this matter would only make her sadder, so she hurriedly stopped her. âItâs alright now.â
Vivian hummed and touched her lower abdomen again. âHow ridiculous are us humans? I hate him so much that I killed him with my own hands. But, this child, I just couldnât bear to get rid of it!â
Eudora was silent. She didnât know what to say.
Vivian, however, smiled as if she was comforting herself. âMaybe itâs because I donât have a family.â
âYes! That must be it,â Eudora agreed.
Both of them then fell silent.
Vivian held Eudoraâs hand for a long time. âHave you ever loved Mr. Nolan?â
Eudora was stunned. âNo!â
âBut, in my opinion, he treated you very well, at least in his own ways.â
Eudora was puzzled. âWhat makes you say that?â In her opinion, Fabian had done too many bad things. She really couldnât see the kindness among his evil.
âWell, I couldnât really tell either. It was Callum⦠He sometimes came back and talked about the two of you. I heard that when Fabian was very happy when you promised him. He had arranged every detail of the wedding ceremony all by himself before showing it to you! I just thought that you should know.â
Eudora was stunned for a moment, and she suddenly said, âWhat he did does sound romantic, but if you really know me, you should know that I already have someone else in my heart. I even have my own family and children. If it werenât for them, I wouldnât have had to suffer so much. In the end, everything was destroyed by them. He even died in my hands in order to ensure that he stays in my mind forever. Every memory I had with him was filled with deceit and fear!â
Momentarily stunned, Vivian quickly said, âEudora, thatâs not what I meant.â
âI know. You just wanted to see how I would react. But this is my truth. I will never love Fabian.â
âAlright, I understand!â Vivian let out a bitter laugh. âPerhaps I was just looking too much into things.â
Eudora looked at her doubtfully. âYouâ¦â
âForget it. Truth be told, I didnât ask for you to come here for anything important. Itâs just that there might never be a chance for us to meet again in the future. So, could I ask you for a final favor?â
âWhat is it?â
Vivian took a bracelet from her hand and put it into Eudoraâs hand. âThis has been given to me by Callum! If you have the chance, please return it to him on my behalf! I donât want to remember him anymore, and I certainly donât want to keep his things around me.â
Eudora pursed her lips. She already knew about it. Although Vivian had killed Callum with her own hands, she, without even knowing it, had already gotten used to that man in her life.
This was probably the fabled âStockholm Syndromeâ. She had asked her to come here was to find out if Eudora felt the same.
However, she ended the topic when she realized that that wasnât the case.
Eudora didnât know what or how to comment on Vivianâs mood. After all, she couldnât read her mind, and she didnât know how Callum felt about Vivian.
That was someone elseâs business. She did not want to meddle too much in it. She just wanted to live a good life with Amos!
Eudora walked out of the detention center with the bracelet in her hand and smiled at Amos, who had been waiting for her outside.
The sun was shining, bathing his whole body in its warm embrace.
He immediately stood up straight upon seeing Eudora and stretched his hand out towards her. Eudora walked over, and the two of them hugged each other tightly.
â¦
The case was over, and Harley was ready to go back to Rosaville City.
Thea, too, was finally discharged from the hospital. After giving birth to their child, she looked much gentler than before and exuded the aura of a loving mother.
Eudora looked at the little guy in her arms and suddenly thought of the two little kids of her own in her house. She felt extremely guilty about everything that had happened to the two of them.
She shouldâve been there for them at this critical period of their lives, but she had missed out on their growth because of her own affairs.
If she could, she would want to go back and stay with them.
Howeverâ¦
Her body felt numb just thinking of what Fabian had said to her before he died. No, she had to handle this matter well so that she could finally rest at ease.
Thinking of this, Eudora said to Amos.
âThere is still much to do within the Holt Family, so you should go back to Rosaville City first. Iâll deal with them, and Iâll definitely return once Iâm done with them!â
âItâs alright. Iâm in no hurry to return either,â Amos replied. âIâll stay with you!â
Eudora frowned. âBut the childrenâ¦â
âItâs alright. Wesley called and said that he had brought the two children on vacation and they wouldnât be back for another two weeks. Weâd have almost finished with the things here by then and we could go home after!â
Eudora nodded. âAlright then!â
Harley, who was standing next to them, held Thea in his arms and said, âThen weâll see you in Rosaville City!â
â¦
Eudora hurried back to the Holt Family after sending Harley and Thea off to the airport. She saw Leslie standing at the door with a resolute look on his face as soon as she reached the villa.
Hodge hurried forward as she got out of the car.
âMiss Eudora, you are finally back. Mr. Clarke has been waiting at the door for two days. He said that he will never leave until he sees you.â
Samuel, who was standing next to Leslie, heard Hodgeâs words, and added, âServes you right.â
Eudora fell speechless.
Leslie then turned to Eudora. âMiss Eudora, Iâm sorry. I really didnât expect the Nolan family to have such an agenda. If I had known that they wanted to take advantage of you from the beginning, I wouldâve definitely stopped it from happening!â
Eudora shook her head. âItâs all in the past. Donât take it to heart.â
Furthermore, now was not the time for them to quarrel. Eudora then motioned for Mr. Clarke to get up.
âUncle Clarke, Uncle Chilton, stop talking. I have something very important to discuss with you.â
The two men looked at each other and then quickly followed after her.
Eudora went straight to the point after entering the study room.
âTell me now, is the organization actually related to my father?â
The two of them were stunned. Samuel was about to speak, but Leslie immediately interjected. âNo.â
âUncle Clarke, donât lie to me! Itâs already come to this, I hope that you could tell me the truth. Otherwise, this will reflect badly on the Holt family.â
Leslie muttered, âThis⦠this canât be true? Isnât the Nolan family doomed? The organizationâs base has been destroyed, and it has nothing to do with usâ¦â
Eudora shook her head. âItâs not like that. The police may not have sufficient evidence, but Uncle Clarke, have you forgotten? There are still people escaping from there. If they know that we did it, and if Dad used to have that kind of relationship with them, then weâ¦â
Samuel gasped and said, âYouâre right, Miss Eudora. We have to take preventive measures.â
