Helen was immersed in her own beautiful imagination. Only after her father pulled her away from Amos that she finally snapped out of her reverie.
Doctor Leon scanned around in a hurry. Fortunately, there was no one else in the room. Amos, on the other hand, was still in a coma, and he did not have any means to defend himself.
Otherwise, his daughter probably would have lost her life and no longer standing in front of him.
Doctor Leon reproached her in a deep voice.
âAre you out of your mind? Who asked you to come in here?â
At first, Helen was a little embarrassed because her father had chanced upon this scene. However, she began to feel a little resentful after hearing her fatherâs admonishment.
âDad, why canât I be here?â
âOf course you canât! Donât you know who is lying on the bed there? Itâs Amos! He isnât someone to be trifled with! If he knows that you have done such a thing, he will kill you!â
Helen was a little upset. âMr. Granger isnât that brutal!â
Doctor Leon was really angry, and he regretted recommending his daughter to treat Eudora at the beginning!
If he had known that this would happen, he wouldnât have asked Helen to come!
âYou are too naive! Youâd better go back right now.â
Helen frowned. âDad, Iâm not going back. Miss George has abandoned Mr. Granger and left. Heâs suffering from insurmountable psychological distress.â
Doctor Leon was taken aback. âWhat did you say? Did Eudora abandon him?â
âYou heard right!â Helen nodded. âMr. Granger just said it himself. Thatâs why I stayed here to take care of him!â
âItâs unnecessary for you to do so. His distress is insurmountable, but itâs not something that you can cure. Get out!â
âDadâ¦â Helen was still unwilling to give up.
âAm I still your father? I asked you to get out right now! And you must not come back to this ward in the future!â
Helen had always respected Doctor Leon. Even though she was unhappy, she still respected his words and left the ward unwillingly.
Doctor Leon took a worried look at Amos after Helen left. Amos must have had a nightmare just now, but now he seemed slightly pacified.
Doctor Leon gave him a quick check-up, but Amos had woken up before he was done.
Sensing that there was people around him, he almost sat up in an instant. âEudoraâ¦â
Doctor Leonâs heart skipped a beat, silently glad that he had driven Helen away in the nick of time. He knew that with the steadfast loyalty of the men in the Granger family, even if Eudora did leave, Amos still wouldnât give up so easily.
Furthermore, Eudora was deeply in love with Amos. There seemed to be something fishy about all that had happened.
âItâs me!â Doctor Leon said.
Doctor Leon could sense the disappointment in Amosâ eyes. âDoctor Leon.â
âYes?â Doctor Leon nodded, but Amos was already trying to get up from the bed.
Doctor Leon advised him hurriedly, âYouâd better stay put. Your body has suffered a lot. If you push yourself further, even God might not be able to save you!â
Amosâ lips twitched, âArenât you the God in this context?â
Doctor Leon was speechless. âYou brat, donât you know your own condition? How could you still have the energy to joke with an old man like me? I know that you are in a bad mood, but no matter what, your health is the most important! If something bad were to happen to you, Eudora would definitely look for me!â
As soon as he finished speaking, Doctor Leon was seized with a desire to slap himself.
He really was getting old. Helen had just said that Amos had been abandoned by Eudora. Wasnât he courting death by mentioning Eudora now?
Just as he was thinking about the most appropriate apology, Amos sat down again on the bed.
âHow long do I need to stay here?â
Why was he so obedient all of a sudden? Was this man before him the Amos Granger whom he knew all these years? Doctor Leon felt as though he was hallucinating.
âYou brat. Youâre so obedient all of a sudden. Iâm really not used to it.â
Amosâ lips twitched again and he said, âI have promised her that Iâll exercise and keep my body strong!â
âWhat?â Doctor Leon didnât understand. Amos shook his head and said, âNothing! Tell me clearly, how long I have to stay here, and what should I do to recover my strength?â
Although Doctor Leon didnât know the reason for Amosâ strange behavior, he still felt relieved. After all, Amosâ obedience would definitely save him a lot of trouble. Hence, he said directly, âWeâll have to at least observe you for another night, and weâll see what could we do tomorrow.â
Amos then rested himself on his bed.
Doctor Leon smiled and said, âThatâs good. Iâll ask someone to bring you dinner later.â
Amos thought of Juju after Doctor Leon left. He recalled that Juju had come back from abroad before he collapsed.
He made a phone call to Wesley, who was almost on the verge of crying on the other side.
âMr. Granger, youâre finally awake! Miss Juju has been drawing in the garden downstairs and she refused to leave. Iâm so worried about her. She hasnât said a word since she came back.â
Amosâs heart skipped a beat as he recalled how Juju had not spoken to him after going through that traumatic experience in the past.
He hurried to open the door and trotted downstairs.
It was already late into the night and there was no one in the garden. From a distance, he saw a lonely and thin figure sitting in front of a drawing board.
A gust of wind blew her hair, making her look even lonelier.
Amos frowned and walked over slowly. His daughter was throwing a tantrum at this time, and he was actually a little angered by it.
However, when he saw Jujuâs drawing board, his eyes suddenly turned red.
It was a drawing of a family of four. They were holding each otherâs hands and smiling together.
Even Amos, a grown-up man, couldnât stand the sight. Wesley, who was next to him, was already crying. Miss Juju was too pitiful.
Amos took a deep breath, composed himself, and walked over to hold Jujuâs hand.
âGood girl, itâs getting late now. Shall we head back?â
Juju suddenly raised her head. When she saw Amos, Juju, who had been holding back for the whole afternoon, finally pursed her lips and started crying.
âDaddy, am I not good enough? Is that why Mommy doesnât want me anymore?â
Amos felt a prick in his chest as he shook his head.
âNo, itâs not because youâre not good enough. Itâs because your Mommy has her own reasons to do that.â
Juju didnât understand, and she didnât know what reasons her mother would have to do such a thing.
âBut Uncle Clint said that Mommy dislikes usâ¦â
Amosâ face darkened. âDonât listen to other peopleâs nonsense. We have to believe in your Mommy! Juju, have you forgotten what Iâd told you? No matter what, Juju and I will protect Mommy and Sugar Bun together!â
Juju nodded. âYes!â
Amos put away Jujuâs drawing and asked Wesley to bring her upstairs. He then called Clint on the phone.
âWhere are you? Get to the hospital immediately.â
