Eudora was taken aback by Feliciaâs sudden question.
âWhy makes you say that?â
âWhen you were feeling unwell at home the other day, I already thought that you might be pregnant. Iâve had a similar experience when I was pregnant as well. Have you gone to the hospital for a check-up? If youâre pregnant, donât drag it out too long. You should get to the hospital as soon as possible! You better take better care of yourself in case you really are!â Felicia smiled gently as she said.
When Eudora heard her reply, she asked casually.
âWhat exactly are the symptoms of pregnancy?â
Felicia burst into laughter and said, âMy dear! Havenât you been pregnant? Donât you know?â
Eudora stayed silent a long while. Taking her silence as a plea for help, Felicia hurriedly answered her.
âWell, some common symptoms would be that youâll get really sleepy and your stomach might feel really unwell sometimes. Youâll often feel hungry as well!â
Eudora had all these symptoms.
Plus, it had been a while since she had her period. She had merely thought that it was due to her usual irregular cycle. However, now accompanied by the symptoms Felicia had just described, she thought that she might really be pregnant.
Instantly, she started to panic. She didnât know how or what she was supposed to feel about it.
Seeing that she had remained silent, Felicia spoke up hurriedly, âAre you too happy that youâre at a loss for words?â
Soon, Eudora came back to her senses. She didnât want to talk about this with her anymore. Shaking her head, she bid her final farewell to Felicia and left promptly.
On the way back, her mind kept replaying the pregnancy symptoms that Felicia had told her.
She recalled the night before when Amos had suggested getting her examined. Did that mean she was really pregnant? Perhaps, Amos wanted to surprise her with the news.
Her heart was still in turmoil after calming herself down. To be honest, she was not resistant to the idea of being pregnant. The fact that she was pregnant with Amosâ child made her pretty happy.
Eudora contemplated her situation while driving back home.
When she got home, she saw that Amos was already waiting for her outside.
âWhy did you go out alone? You shouldâve asked me to come with youâ¦â
âIâm fine! Iâm not three years old, you know. I know that youâve been busy these few days, and I wouldnât want to tire you out.â
Amos shook his head, and disagreed, âItâs not tiring at all.â
He would do anything as long as Eudora stayed by his side.
However, Amos chose to keep these words to himself.
âThe doctorâs here. Letâs get you checked out, alright?â
Eudora was instantly reminded of her epiphany just now, so she nodded compliantly.
Earlier that morning, Amos had gone out to prepare the items that the doctor needed for the check-up and some tools and equipment that they required for the minor surgery in their home.
Amos thought it over and decided to opt for the safest method, minimizing all possible risks to Eudora.
At this moment, a loud shout came from the room. Amosâ heart skipped a beat as he hurriedly went in.
As soon as he opened the door, Eudora was already posed to leave, staring at the doctor warily.
âWhatâs wrong?â Amos asked hurriedly.
Eudora was embarrassed as she said, âAmos, could we not proceed with the examination? He wants me to take off my pants!â She had never had to do that before in her previous medical exams.
She couldnât let herself go through with itâ¦
Amos frowned, âBut youâre not feeling well. You have to get a check.â
Eudora pursed her lips and spoke, âI know whatâs going on. Iâm pregnant, arenât I? Look, Iâm willing to have this child, okay? Could we just stop this check-up for the time being?â
Eudoraâs words hit Amos like a ton of bricks.
He looked at her, his face had gone alarmingly pale.
âHow did youâ¦â
Eudora didnât know what was going on exactly so she started to speak casually.
âItâs my own stomach, and of course, Iâd realize! When we went to the hospital the other day, the report stated that I was pregnant, didnât it? Were you planning to surprise me with the news? Is that why you didnât share it with me?â
Eudora instinctively leaned her head into Amosâ chest.
âLet me tell you. Iâm truly surprised.â
Amos, on the other hand, merely looked at her blankly and asked, âDidnât you say that you didnât want a baby?â
Eudora shook her head and said, âWell, if I had a choice, of course, Iâd say no. But since Iâm already with child, itâs an entirely different situation weâre dealing with here! If I donât want to just abandon it, andâ¦â
Eudora suddenly got a little shy, her bright eyes sparkling.
She raised her head from Amosâ arms and moved closer to his ear to whisper, âWeâve been together for quite some time now and⦠Iâm willing to have another child with you. Didnât you say something about rewarding me last time? Well⦠Could we get married then?â
Amos had been waiting patiently for Eudora to rekindle her love for him ever since she lost her memories.
If she had said this to him before this, he would have been on cloud nine.
He might have even been the happiest man on earth! Unfortunately, that wasnât the case this time around!
Amos made up his mind just then. He felt that he should not be sidetracked by this small moment of happiness when Eudora herself didnât know the whole truth. For the sake of Eudoraâs future, he had to be firmer and make wiser decisions.
With that in mind, Amos tightened his grip on Eudoraâs arms.
He held onto her firmly, as though she was the most important thing in his life. Eudora yelped in pain, âAmos, it hurts!â
Regaining his calm, he finally released Eudoraâs arm.
âEudora, Iâm glad to hear that. Of course, I want to marry you. If you want, we could do it now. But⦠This child may not be good for us at the moment. Why donât we have another once we get married?â
Eudora was taken aback. She couldnât believe what she had just heard come out of Amos. Didnât he want to have a baby with her?
âI donât understand. Arenât we going to get married? Why donât you want this child anymore if weâre going to be married anyway?â
Amos held his breath for a long while before speaking, âThis baby, itâsâ¦â
âItâs⦠not healthy,â Amos eventually decided to say. He started to push Eudora back into the examination room. âEudora, listen to me. We canât keep this baby. I promise you that weâll have the next one and no matter how many you wantâ¦â
âNo! I refuse!â Eudoraâs temper shot through the roof. She was angry now.
âYouâre lying! The child in me is still so young, and how could we possibly tell if itâs healthy or not? Do you not want our child?â
