Naomi looked at Emma doubtfully. She felt that Emma seemed to be incredibly concerned about Nelson.
âEmma, have you been hiding something from me lately?â
âUm, no! Thereâs nothing I can hide from you. Come on, weâre running out of time. I think Nelson is the only one who might be able to help us now, unless you want to try asking Culver?â
Naomi paused when she heard Emmaâs words.
In fact, Culver was a viable option too.
While she was hesitating, her phone rang with a call from an unknown phone number. She picked it up right away.
âHello?â
It was Marilyn. She shouted angrily, âNaomi!â
âDidnât we have a deal that you are going to keep your distance from Culver? You have made a promise to me, and I thought you were a woman of your word. Now, it seems that youâre no different from those vain women!â
Naomi was confounded by her condemnation.
âAunty, you-â
âDonât even call me like that! I find it disgusting! Youâre after the wealth of the Olsen family, arenât you? Let me tell you, bringing down the Olsen family will do you no good. Stay away from Culver. I will never let him marry a woman like you!â
After that, she hung up on the call.
Naomi was left dazed.
From the looks of it, they shouldnât seek Culver for help.
Marilynâs voice was so loud that Emma had also heard their conversation. Her criticism had filled Emma with indignation.
âSheâs going too far, isnât she? Humph, sheâs such an old person! Does she have any idea what sheâs talking about? I mean, technically speaking, she was saying that a daughter of the Granger family is after their money. Thatâs the biggest joke Iâve ever heard!â
Naomi kept quiet whereas Emma was exasperated at the thought of getting scolded by Marilyn.
âNo, I must make things clear to her.â
âForget it! Didnât you say that weâre going to look for Nelson?â
Only then did Emma remember that.
âOkay, letâs go right now!â
â¦
At the entrance of the company, just when Naomi and Emma were about to go out, they saw two cars coming from different directions simultaneously.
Nelson came from their left. He also saw the news, therefore he had decided to come and help them.
At the same time, Culver was coming towards them from their right. He was going to ask Naomi about her opinion in the matter.
The two men bumped into each other at the entrance of Naomiâs company. As rivals in love, they gave each other attitude.
âNelson, how dare you show up here!â
âCulver, long time no see!â
Compared to Culverâs intimidating manner, Nelson was much more unassertive.
Culver was incensed by Nelsonâs presence, âSince youâve disobeyed me, Iâm taking this personally.â
He turned to look at the chauffeur and said, âCapture him!â
Naomi stopped him, âCulver!â
Culver looked at Naomi with joy. For some reason, he felt that his name sounded particularly pleasant when it came from Naomiâs mouth.
In the next second, Naomi walked towards Nelson.
âYouâve come just in time! Letâs go in first. I have something to tell you!â
Culver was unhappy to see that. He insisted, âNaomi, Iâve warned you of his wickedness. Why are you still falling into his trap?â
Naomi pursed her lips. Marilynâs harsh words still remained in her head. Hence, she pointedly refused to acknowledge his point of view, saying, âThatâs none of your business!â
Culver almost flew off the handle, but he suppressed his anger when he thought of his original intention of coming.
âNaomi, come to me first. I have something to ask you.â
âWhy donât you ask me directly? I donât have to go so close to you.â
Culver furrowed his brow, âAm I that scary?â
Naomi smiled bitterly. She thought to herself, âYes, youâre scary, and on top of that your mother is even scarier.â
She only stayed silent, as though to agree with him.
Culver became increasingly despondent. He had no idea why their relationship was falling apart.
âDo you have to be so cold and distant to me? I admit that Iâve been conceited. Iâll apologize to you, okay? This matter is very important to us, though, so I hope that we can calm down and talk about this.â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Olsen, as you can see, Iâm a little busy right now. If thereâs anything that you need, just tell me!â
âNaomi!â
It was the first time for him to plead so deferentially with someone. Unfortunately, his attempt was met with her disdain.
âIt seems that you donât have anything else to say. Iâll go in first.â
After that, Naomi turned around and went into her company.
Culver wanted to persuade her more, but the chauffeur reminded him.
âSir, Aaron has just called and said that thereâs an abrupt drop in our shares. He hopes you can go back as soon as possible.â
Culver clenched his fists in reluctance. In the end, he chose to head back to save his company first.
It was not until Culverâs car disappeared at the entrance of Naomiâs company that she stopped looking at it and moved away from the window. Afterwards, she said, âLetâs begin!â
She was wearing an incredibly serious expression.
It evoked memories of Nelsonâs childhood. He recalled the first time he met Naomi. Back in the day, she looked like a persistent little girl.
She always pretended to be strong in spite of her worry and fear.
When they were children, she pitied him and took care of him in school.
Those were probably the happiest moments in his life.
However, he could no longer go back in time.
He took a deep breath and took out all the materials that he had brought with him.
â¦
Meanwhile, the situation had deteriorated by the time Culver went back to his company. The employees were trying desperately to find a remedy for it.
The whole office was in a state of disorder. Culver stood there and watched them, restraining his rage.
Marilyn also came with shocking news.
âIâve already sent people to investigate the matter just now. Naomi must be the one who did it. I got evidence that shows a trusted subordinate of hers disclosed the blueprint in the beginning. Guess what! Itâs the same person who broke the news today! How could this be a coincidence? She must have been instructed by Naomi.â
Culver stared at the series of evidence provided by Marilyn while gnashing his teeth.
âWho told you that?â
Marilyn was infuriated.
âWith the evidence here, why are you still hesitating? Now that the company is already in such a mess, how can I harm you? I just hope that you can see the situation clearly. Our company has lasted for more than 100 years. Do you really want to watch from the sidelines as it gets destroyed?â
Culver clutched the photo, which was the piece of evidence, in his hand, as if he was going to crush something.
After a long time, he gritted his teeth and said, âOf course not!â
After regaining his fighting spirit, Culver instantly began to allocate duties among his employees.
Soon, the chaotic situation became organized. Things also started to go well.
Only then did Marilyn let out a sigh of relief. She said, âThatâs more like it, Culver! What would you like to eat? Iâll cook it for you. Iâve heard from Loraine that you like to eat beef. How about I make stir-fried beef for you? You like it savory, right?â
Culver knitted his brows, âNo need. I donât like to eat that dish anymore. If you have got something on, go ahead and do it. Iâm also busy here.â
