Sierra finally became serious. Seeing that she seemed to believe him, Eddison breathed a sigh of relief.
Sierra looked at him soberly for a while before she stretched out her hand to him.
âThank you for worrying about me. Iâm really happy.â
Eddison shook his head, âI just donât want you to suffer any harm.â
She chuckled, âWith your protection, how would I be harmed? However, I really like Jairus a lot!â
He was staggered, âAre you sure you like him?â
Sierra nodded.
âI donât know if Iâve told you before, but I grew up in a single-parent family. When I was very young, my dad left. Iâve never felt my fatherâs warmth in my life. However, Jairus makes me feel secure and wanted. Do you understand that kind of feeling?â
Eddison curled his fingers slightly and mumbled, âI can do that too.â
She looked at him suspiciously. âWhat?â
Looking at Sierra, he took a deep breath and said, âI said I-â
Before his voice died away, they heard a nurseâs voice coming from the outside.
âMiss Rachel, this way!â
Eddison was astounded. He quickly looked at the doorway, to find that Rachel was walking down the corridor with her head down.
Thinking of the paleness on her face from the previous night, a trace of uncertainty arose in his mind.
Seeing that he seemed preoccupied while staring at the corridor, Sierra took a look as well.
âIs that someone you know?â
He said, âI have something to do.â
Sierra smiled at him, âGo! Iâm grateful that you care about me. However, Iâve chosen to live my own life. I believe in my own decision that I havenât made the wrong choice. Even if Jairus didnât do good things in the past, I believe that he will change for me.â
In the end, he just pursed his lips without saying anything.
â¦
Outside, Rachel was standing with a prescription in her hand. It happened that when she raised her head, she saw Eddison coming out from a ward.
She took a curious look at the ward but her arm had already been grabbed by him.
âWhat happened to you? Why did you come to the hospital?â
She was in pain due to his grasp, and she said, âOuch, please let go of me first.â
Only then did he realize that he had lost his composure. He let her go and took a step back. He looked at her eagerly, waiting for her answer.
Rachel replied, âItâs nothing. Iâm just having a minor headache. Thatâs why I came here, but itâs just a common cold. The doctor has prescribed me medicine, and I can leave after taking the medicine.â
He saw the prescription and breathed a sigh of relief. Rachel had ended up being in Country M because of him. If something bad happened to her, he would not feel at ease.
As he knew she was okay, he felt relaxed.
However, his words were still not pleasing to the ear as he said, âItâs good that youâre fine. However, this is what you get when you donât take good care of yourself. Frankly, you had this coming.â
Rachel was not fazed by his tone as she was used to such a treatment.
She gazed at the ward and asked, âAn acquaintance of yours is sick? Is it your classmate? Should I go and say hello?â
To her, she was Eddisonâs wife.
She had been taught that a manâs wife should express some courtesy to his friends by at least saying hello to them.
Unexpectedly, he refused her request without hesitation.
âThereâs no need for that!â
Although she did not understand him, she complied with him, âOkay! Then, Iâll get the medicine first.â
She finished her words in a muffled voice, turned around and was about to leave.
Maybe because she was not feeling well that day, she had not put on any make-up. In conjunction with the large white T-shirt that she was wearing, she looked as white as a sheet.
Her hair touched his shoulder when she walked past him. He instantly recalled that she had waited for him outside the apartment for the whole night.
For some reason, he couldnât help but feel sorry for her.
âIâll go with you!â
The air of despondency, which surrounded her, was dispelled right away.
âWill it trouble you?â
He directly rolled his eyes at her, âForget it.â
Rachel grabbed his arm hurriedly, âNo! You already said that you want to come with me. You canât go back on your words!â
Exasperated, Eddison said, âLet go of my hand.â
âBut you canât leave me.â
He gritted his teeth and said, âLet me go in three seconds, or you will know the consequences! One-two-â
She seemed to be really afraid, hence she slowly loosened her grip on his arm. Just when she was about to let go of him, they heard a voice behind them. It was a familiar voice to Eddison.
âEddison, you forgot to take your things. Thank God, youâre still here.â
He was taken aback and unconsciously pushed Rachel away while turning to look at Sierra, who had come out of the ward.
Rachel was feeble that day. As a result, his push made her bump into the back of a chair behind her with a bang.
However, Eddison did not look back at her.
Rachel struggled to get up and looked curiously at the lady in front of them.
Sierra was dressed in a hospital gown, but it couldnât mask her elegance. At the same time, she was looking concernedly at Rachel. Then, she reproached Eddison.
âYou shouldnât push her like that! Is she injured?â
It was really painful, but Rachel simply waved her hand.
She was the one who had chosen to be with Eddison, therefore she did so as a means of saving his face.
âItâs great that youâre alright. Are you Eddisonâs classmate? I donât think Iâve seen you before.â
Rachel glanced at Eddison and thought that he had most probably never told anyone about his marriage. Hence, she decided to just let him be.
âNice to meet you! My name is Sierra Campbell. Iâm older than you two by a year.â
Rachel said politely, âHello, Sierra!â
Sierra then handed the item back to Eddison, saying, âKeep it properly. Iâm fine here! If you have nothing to do here, itâs better for you to go back to school! Eddie, youâve been away from school for a while, so I bet there must be a lot of lessons for you to catch up. Thus, donât come to visit me again and spend your time on your studies instead!â
She was giving him a lecture, just like a teacher. Rachel thought Eddison would not be pleased to hear that.
If he blew his top at the hospital, it would be bad. She wondered if she needed to say something to change the subject.
To her surprise, he nodded obediently.
âOkay, Iâll prioritise my studies!â
In Rachelâs eyes, he seemed to be very compliant with Sierra.
Rachel suddenly felt that Sierra had a great influence on him.
She couldnât explain why she felt so. It was an unspeakable intuition of hers.
She couldnât help but take another look at Sierra. At the next moment, she was dragged away by Eddison.
âLetâs go!â
Upon seeing this, Sierra reminded him from behind, âHey, donât be so rude to a girl! Be gentle!â
His grasp loosened a little, and Rachel became more worried. Sierra seemed to have a place in his heart no one else could ever have.
She had no idea what to say at the moment.
Both of them were silent. It was not until they had walked far away that Rachel remembered that she had forgotten to take her medicine. Apparently, Eddison had forgotten as well.
With that being said, she was not in the mood to go back to retrieve it.
