Doctor Leon sighed.
In the end, he said only one sentence, âPeople are like candles. One day, all their tears for that one person will disappear.â
â¦
Eudora laid on the bed for half a day in a daze. She felt as if her palm was being held tightly by something, and she was sweating profusely.
She struggled for a while as she felt a little uncomfortable, and then she heard the gentle voice of Amos.
Then, she heard Amosâ gentle voice, âYouâre awake?â
Eudora opened her eyes. It was dark in the room, and no lights were turned on. However, she still noticed Amosâs eyes at a glance.
They looked moist.
âWhatâs the matter?â she asked.
âIâm fine. Are you hungry? Iâll ask Cindy to bring you something to eat.â
âItâs okay, thereâs no need for that!â Eudora shook her head as she explained, âIâm not hungry yet!â
Amos did not insist anymore. He held Eudoraâs hand and tucked her in.
âYou used to say that you wanted to live in the mountains with me, right? Iâm not busy recently, so would you like me to go with you?â
Eudora shook her head and said, âThat was my wish when I grew old, not now. Naomi and Sugar Bun are still young. I havenât heard anything from Naomi and thereâs no one to take care of Sugar Bun. How can I have peace of mind to go to the mountains?â
Amos frowned.
âThey have both grown up. Itâs time for them to live their own lives.â
âNo matter how big they are, theyâre still my children!â Eudora shook her head again. She added, âWhatâs wrong? Donât you love our children?â
She was adorable as she acted like she was angry. However, she was actually trying to be petty with him.
He liked the way she was being coquettish. There was a hint of coyness in her eyes, as if she was the young girl from many years ago.
Her whole body was full of vitality.
Amos suddenly felt warm in his heart. He said sincerely, âOf course I love them.â
âHowever, I love you more! For me, you are not only my wife, but also a part of me. I canât imagine if I were to lose a part of myself, would I still be able to live?â Amos thought to himself.
âYou love them and yet you want to go to the mountains with me? Youâre not being a good father!â
Exasperated, Amos said, âAlright, then we wonât go to the mountains.â
âThatâs more like it!â After Eudora said those few words, she felt a little tired again.
Amos stretched out his hand and held her tightly, saying, âIâll accompany you. Sleep for a while longer!â
Eudora nodded and soon fell asleep in a daze. Amos lowered his head to look at her sleeping face and gently touched her forehead.
In the dark, he thought about something carefully in his mind.
After a while, he slowly got up and went to the balcony to make a phone call.
âClint, please help me find a woman with an equal social standing and is a suitable marriage prospect, preferably someone who is gentle and has a virtuous personality!â
Clint was stunned. He asked, âMr. Granger, what do youâ¦â
âEudora is sick!â Amos sighed and said, âIâ¦â
âNo!â Clintâs face was filled with bitterness. He said, âMr. Granger, I know that Mrs. Granger is not in good health now, but you canât do this to her. Mrs. Granger treats you so well, how could you do this to her at a time like this?â
Amos was confused.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âIsnât it?â Clint looked at Anya, who was praising him, and spoke even louder.
âWe respect Mrs. Granger a lot. You canât find a mistress behind Mrs. Grangerâs back!â
âShut up!â Amos said coldly, âIâm looking for a suitable woman for Sugar Bun!â
âAh?â Clint covered his face and asked, âItâs for Young Master Eddison? He is still young, right? In fact, there is no need for him to get married so early.â
âThatâs none of your business!â
Amos did not want to explain himself anymore!
Clint touched his nose with dejection and said, âOkay, Iâll do it immediately!â
After Amos hung up on the call, he breathed a sigh of relief and made another call to Sugar Bun.
âYour mother is ill. If youâre not busy, come back.â
Naomi also received a phone call from Sugar Bun.
âDad told me that Mom is sick. Are you aware of that?â
Naomi was stunned as she asked, âIâm not! Is it serious?â
âIâm not very clear about the details, but it must be quite serious for Dad to ask me to return. Naomi, are you going back?â
âOf course!â Naomi jumped out of the bed directly and said, âIâll book the flight ticket right now!â
â¦
At the door of Culverâs bedroom, Naomi was just about to knock when she saw Loraine walking over.
âMiss George, Young Master Culver has just fallen asleep. Please donât disturb him!â
Naomi was a little anxious as she explained her intentions, âI have something urgent to deal with at home. I have to inform him that I need to go home.â
âThen, Iâll pass the message to him! Young Master Culver has been in poor health recently. Itâs better if you donât disturb him!â
âAlright then!â Naomi did not want to waste her time arguing with Loraine, therefore she went back to pack her things in a hurry.
Fortunately, she was able to book her flight ticket in time, and soon she got on the plane back to Rosaville City.
The next day, before dawn, Eudora smelled a familiar scent from the kitchen as soon as she woke up.
âNaomi? Is that you?â
Naomi came out from the kitchen with food in her hand and said, âMom, youâre amazing. I have just finished cooking yet you could smell it immediately!â
âWhy have you returned?â Eudoraâs face still looked a little pale, but she was in high spirits after seeing Naomi.
âCanât I come back for no reason at all? I miss you, Mom!â
âOf course you can!â Eudora stretched her hand out and caressed the back of Naomiâs hand. She said, âYouâve gotten better at cooking now, so you must have gone through a lot when you were away, didnât you?â
âNo, I didnât!â Naomi shook her head and said, âIâm fine! Look at my hands. Theyâre much smoother now!â
It was all because of that freak Culver who had given her that bottle of hand cream.
Culver had mentioned that the hand cream was expensive, therefore she deliberately used a lot of it every day. She did not expect that it was a blessing in disguise as her hands felt better than before.
Eudora was relieved and said, âThatâs good! Let me have a taste of your cooking.â
Eudora took a bite and praised, âIt really tastes much better! This isnât too bad either. From now on, you wonât starve yourself anymore!â
As they talked, Naomiâs mobile phone rang. She did not want Eudora to be disappointed, therefore she instantly rejected the call.
â¦
In Greene City, Culver woke up in the morning and called Naomiâs mobile phone in a daze.
He was going to ask her to cook a meal, but Naomi had rejected his call.
He felt a little depressed, therefore he could not fall back to sleep instantly. He got up and kicked Naomiâs door.
There was no movement from inside the room even after he kicked the door twice.
Loraine heard the commotion and rushed over to inform him.
âYoung Master Culver, youâre up? Iâll prepare whatever you want to eat.â
âWhere is Naomi?â
âMiss George has something to attend to, therefore she left last night!â
Culver was instantly enraged. Last time, because of this matter, he had already decided not to argue with her anymore. He had thought that she would not continue to break the agreement anymore.
However, he did not expect that she would behave the same way again.
Culver was truly angry and he lost his appetite. He turned around and returned to his room. With a bang, he slammed the door behind him.
âTell her that since she dares to leave, she doesnât need to come back again!â
Loraine was stunned. What was going on? What was happening? Why was Culver throwing such a childish tantrum?
