The worked up feeling in Naomiâs heart was quickly driven away, and she shook her head to refuse Culverâs request.
âForget it! Didnât you just have an infusion? You wonât starve to death if you donât eat. Go to sleep!â
âIâm hungry!â
He was still repeating the same sentence.
Naomi held her forehead. At that moment, Culverâs phone rang.
He held his hand out but could not reach the phone. Out of kindness, Naomi handed him his phone and helped him put the call on speaker mode.
The next second, she heard Aaronâs voice coming from the other side.
âMr. Culver, Iâve done what youâve asked me to do. The other party has promised to continue their cooperation with Miss George and her company.â
Stunned, Naomi looked at Culver suspiciously.
Culver responded to Aaron with a hum in assent.
He instructed Naomi, âEnd the call.â
Naomi reached out and pressed the âdisconnectâ button.
She opened her mouth in hesitation, âIs it the project that you interfered in last time?â
âThatâs right,â Culver nodded.
âWhy did you change your mind?â Naomi asked.
Culver did not answer her question and looked at her again.
âIâm hungry!â
Naomi was rendered speechless.
âYou asked Aaron to do that because of my phone call to you this afternoon?â
âIâm hungry!â
Naomi frowned as she asked, âDidnât you say that you arenât going to help me?â
âIâm hungry!â
Naomi was boiling with anger. âCulver, answer me first!â she shouted.
Culver turned his head awkwardly and said, âI will not terminate your debt. Donât even think about it! At most, Iâll let them work with you!â
Naomi looked at his awkward figure, and felt both angered and amused.
âSo, Mr. Olsen, you did a good deed without taking credit for it? Why didnât you tell me directly this afternoon? If you had told me, I wouldnât haveâ¦â
Naomi pressed her lips together.
Culver tilted his head and looked at her. He asked sarcastically, âWouldnât have what? Added so much seasoning into the dish?â
Naomi had no idea how to refute him.
âYou knew?â
âOf course! Do you think I donât have taste buds?â
âThen, why did you eat the risotto?â Naomi could not help but mutter, âI really thought you lost your sense of taste!â
Culver lowered his head and seemed to be thinking of something. After a while, he said again.
After a while, he said again, âIâm hungry!â
âAlright! Wait here!â
In the end, Naomi decided to cook. She wanted to thank him for his willingness to agree, and also to express her apology.
Loraine came back as soon as Naomi reached the foot of the stairs.
When Loraine saw Naomi, she still looked quite upset as she said, âThereâs nothing in the refrigerator!â
She must have thought that Naomi wanted to have supper because she was hungry.
Naomi did not want to argue with her either. Loraine really was angry with her for Culverâs sake. After all, Naomi had really gone overboard.
She had not predicted that freak, Culver, would really eat it all.
âIt doesnât matter. Iâll just cook some oatmeal!â Naomi said.
Taken aback, Loraine asked, âAre you trying to cook something for Young Master Culver? You donât have to do that. Iâll do it.â
Naomi pursed her lips before asking, âAre you sure? Heâs really picky with his food!â
It was also the first time Naomi had seen such a person who could even tell who had made a dish.
Loraine was still in a fit of anger, so she was not polite at all.
âItâs just oatmeal. Itâs not even a dish. How will he tell the difference?â
Naomi nodded and said, âAlright then!â
In fact, what Loraine said made sense. Wouldnât oatmeal taste the same regardless who had made it?
Anyway, Loraine did not like her, therefore she did not want to be an eyesore any longer.
She went up and peeped at the door of Culverâs room. He had already closed his eyes and was resting. Therefore, she went back to her room.
However, she did not expect that another commotion would occur outside before she fell asleep.
Then, Loraine knocked on her door.
âMiss George, are you asleep?â
That night was destined to be a sleepless night. Naomi thought that something had happened to Culver, therefore she got up immediately.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Loraine looked friendlier than before, but she was still a little awkward as she talked to Naomi.
âCould you please cook some oatmeal for Young Master Culver?â
Naomi asked, âHe was able to tell?â
Loraine pursed her lips together and said, âMiss George, donât think that you can put anything into Young Master Culverâs oatmeal. Iâll try it first before giving it to Young Master Culver!â
Naomi was dumbfounded.
She reassured Loraine, âDonât worry. Iâm not that mean.â
However, how was it possible that he could tell who had made the oatmeal?
Then, she went to prepare some oatmeal for him. Of course, the entire process was completed under Loraineâs supervision. Along the way, Loraine was trying to learn her cooking skills as well. Naomi did not care. After all, she was not a professional chef, therefore she was not afraid if her cooking skills were picked up by Loraine.
After the oatmeal was done, Loraine personally tasted the oatmeal and found that there was nothing wrong with the dish, therefore she brought it to Culver.
Naomi became inexplicably nervous when she saw Loraineâs pious look.
She quietly stood outside Culverâs room and listened to the sounds from the inside. Then, she heard Loraine say, âSlow down. Thereâs more!â
Naomi let out a sigh of relief, yet felt surprised at the same time.
If it werenât for the fact that Naomi had eaten the meal cooked by Eudora and knew that she was not that good at cooking, she would really believe that she was a professional chef.
What was wrong with Culver? Why did he refuse so many good dishes but only ate her food?
Naomi raised her eyebrows and then went back to sleep at ease.
â¦
The next day, when Naomi woke up, it was already noon.
She could hear a few footsteps outside.
Then, she heard Marilynâs voice, âLoraine, youâve gone too far. If I hadnât gone to see Doctor Chilton because I did not feel well this morning, I wouldnât have known that Culver was sick. Donât you know that he has a weak stomach? How could you let him suffer like this?â
âIâm sorry!â Loraine apologized. âItâs all my fault for not taking good care of Young Master Culver.â
Naomi initially thought that Loraine would complain about her to Marilyn. She did not expect Loraine to not even mention her name at all.
âOh yes, since Culver is ill, whereâs that Naomi girl?â
In the end, her name was still mentioned.
âMiss George is still resting.â
âWhat time is it now? Why is she still resting? Why isnât she taking good care of Culver?â
Naomi heard that, reached out and opened the door.
âGood morning, Mrs. Olsen.â
Marilyn gave her a sidelong glance, but in the end, she did not say anything harsh to Naomi.
âLetâs go and see Culver together!â
Naomi followed behind. In the study room, Culver was no longer resting, but instead working on some documents at that moment.
What made Naomi even more surprised was that she thought Marilyn would ask him to take a rest.
To her surprise, Marilyn did not pay any attention to that, but asked about other things instead as if she was used to his behavior.
âYou should let me know that you are sick!â
âOh!â Culver said faintly. Not even looking up from the documents on the table, he added, âIâll be more careful next time!â
Marilyn frowned and she asked him, âWhat happened this time? Since Loraine isnât telling me anything, then you should tell me yourself. What on earth did you eat that caused this? Whereâs the nutritionist I hired for you?â
âI fired the nutritionist. The food he cooked didnât taste good.â
âHow could his food not taste good? I chose that nutritionist after careful deliberation, and the food he cooks is better than the nutritionist we have in our own house. Why on earth are you so picky?â
âItâs no big deal!â Culverâs tone was calm, but he stood up.
