Eudora shook her head and said, âNo, I was just thinking that youâre getting cuter and cuter!â
âCute?â
To Amos, it sounded like she was making fun of him.
âDo you think Iâm not tough enough now?â
Eudora was puzzled, she asked, âWhat?â
Amos asked again, âDo you think, uh, Iâm not manly?â
Upon hearing his question, she burst into an enormous belly laugh.
âHa ha, why do you think so? âCuteâ is not a word to describe only women. I like the current you a lot!â
He was somewhat relieved by her answer.
âDo you really like the current me?â
âOf course! Your ebullience makes me feel at ease, and it doesnât make me feel inferior to you. To me, you are more approachable this way.â
âOkay!â replied Amos. Everything would be fine with him as long as Eudora liked it. After that, both of them continued to bend down and play with Cola.
When it was getting dark, Cindy came over to call them after preparing dinner.
Cola was also tired. Thankfully, it did not seem to be as insecure as before. However, its body was quite dirty after playing for the whole afternoon.
Cindy took it over and said, âIâll give it a bath later.â
Eudora thought of Naomi, and she asked Cindy, âIs Naomi back?â
Cindy nodded and said, âMiss Naomi is back. Itâs just that she doesnât appear to be happy. She went back to her room as soon as she came back.â
Eudora let out a sigh. From the looks of it, Nelson was still nowhere to be found.
Then, Eudora said, âIâll ask her to come down for dinner.â
Before her voice died away, Naomi had already come down, saying, âThereâs no need for that, Mom. Iâm here.â
Eudora turned around and looked at her. At first glance, she was almost the same as her usual self. The only difference was that the sense of exuberance in her had disappeared. Instead, she was rather calm and had an inscrutable expression on her face.
Eudora wanted to say something, but Amos stopped her.
The three of them sat down and began to have their dinner quietly.
In the past, Naomi was incredibly talkative. She was like a breath of fresh air, and her words would lift her parentsâ spirits whenever she was at home.
However, no one spoke, and there was a heavy atmosphere in the dining room.
Eudora cleared her throat and started to find a topic to talk about.
âNaomi, you havenât seen Cola, have you? It looks very similar to our previous dog. I bet youâll like it very much!â
Naomi nodded and said, âOkay!â
There was nothing wrong with her answer, but the conversation ended all too abruptly.
Eudora sighed and wanted to find something else to talk about, but Naomi had already put down the cutlery and stood up.
âMom and Dad, Iâm full.â
Then, she disappeared upstairs.
Eudora lost her appetite in an instant and said, âNaomi looks like sheâs a completely different person.â
Amos was still composed. He picked up a piece of meat and put it into Eudoraâs bowl.
âEat more!â
Eudora was dumbfounded.
âArenât you worried about her?â
Amos shook his head and replied, âThis is an inevitable life experience for her if she wants to grow up. Thereâs no point in worrying. You can rest assured that Naomi isnât that weak.â
After Naomi entered her room, she closed the door and sat on the floor.
She had been searching everywhere with her subordinates for the whole day, but there was no trace of Nelson at all.
She was filled with all sorts of emotions. Even she herself had no idea why she was looking for him. Was it because she still loved him? Or did she hate him so much that she wanted to take revenge on him?
Feeling a lump in her throat, she buried her head in her knees.
â¦
In the blink of an eye, it was the day of Rosaville Cityâs marathon.
After getting up in the morning, when Naomi was about to go out as usual, Eudora came to persuade her.
âThere are many people outside today. You should be careful. Maybe you should just stay home and let Charlieâ¦â
Naomi nodded and said, âI will be careful!â
Before Eudora could stop her, Naomi had already left. Seeing that, Eudora simply caressed Colaâs head.
âNow, she wants to make her own decisions. She has grown up, hasnât she?â
There were indeed a lot of people outside. After Naomi came out, Charlie reported the dayâs situation to her.
âWeâve already searched this district before. Now, the only possible place that we havenât been to is the Inchee Group.â
Naomi was baffled.
âWasnât it closed down?â
Due to Nelsonâs accident, Inchee Group was temporarily closed. At the moment, the whole companyâs building was unable to operate.
Just as she finished her sentence, their eyes lit up at the same time.
âThe most dangerous place is also the most inconspicuous place!â
Naomi became nervous at once. Her heart was palpiating and her breathing got faster.
âEveryone, get ready. Letâs go to the Inchee Group!â
â¦
In the basement of the Inchee Group, Nelson was leaning against the door of a room. He was trying to figure out a way to make use of the crowd outside, so that he could bring Monique to justice.
Although he had been unable to go out in the past few days, he went through the route of the marathon in his mind when he was free.
According to his judgment, vehicles were definitely not allowed to pass the route of the marathon.
Therefore, Monique and the others would certainly circumvent it. That way, it would be incredibly easy for them to escape.
Unless something happened before that, they would be forced to change their plan.
If that had happened, they might get caught since there would be a lot of police officers around the marathon route.
As he was thinking, he heard Moniqueâs voice.
âNelson, are you ready? Weâre going out now!â
He set his thoughts aside, and tidied up his clothes before coming out, saying, âIâm ready!â
There were also Frida and several of Moniqueâs subordinates besides Nelson and Monique in the basement. Currently, everyone was standing in the living room outside.
Monique told everyone about the route again and said with a smile, âLetâs go! Once we escape today, we will make a comeback in the future.â
Frida suddenly said, âMiss Monique, I have a stomach ache.â
Monique was slightly ruffled by the abrupt change and asked, âWhy do you have a stomachache all of a sudden?â
âI donât know either. I ate like everyone else.â
âWhat should we do now? You have a stomachache. Whoâs going to drive then?â
Monique and her subordinates were not familiar with the routes in Rosaville City. Hence, they had decided before that it would be Frida who drove the car.
âI can do it. Miss Monique, letâs go!â said Frida, biting her lower lip.
As she was speaking, she stood up and walked out, while Monique and the others hurriedly followed behind. However, before Frida could walk more than two steps, she staggered, held her stomach and crouched down, grimacing in pain.
She couldnât help letting out a cry, âOuch!â
Monique looked down at her and said, âDonât play tricks on me!â
She cast a glance at one of her subordinates, who knew a little bit about medicine and treating people. She demanded, âCheck on her!â
The subordinate immediately went forward to examine Frida, saying, âMiss Monique, she doesnât seem to be faking it.â
Monique cursed in agitation, âD*mn it! What should we do now?â
Nelson suggested, âIâll drive the car!â
