Richard resolutely stood in front of Nelson and looked at the police officers in front of them with sharp eyes.
âThis is all my doing. If you want to take somebody with you, just take me instead of him!â
The police officers frowned as they said, âWeâre acting in accordance with the law. Please donât be unreasonable, Sir. We donât want to take action by force.â
âI donât care! As long as Iâm here, you canât take him away!â
Nelson furrowed his brow and said, âRichard, get out of the way!â
At that point, he had already given up. He had been planning to make amends for the trouble he had caused Naomi, but his cowardice had gotten the better of him and he no longer dared to tell her the truth.
In his mind, he thought that there would always be a chance to tell her everything in the future.
Unfortunately, he had miscalculated. Someone had taken the opportunity of his engagement party to scheme against him and revealed the truth before he did. However, he was just reaping what he sowed as he was to be blamed because he was the one who had chosen to delay confessing to Naomi.
What was more, Naomi was right. Some of the wrongdoings had indeed been done by him.
If she couldnât forgive him, to be imprisoned or to stay free would make no difference to him. In fact, prison was nothing to him compared to the bad blood that had formed between Naomi and him.
Richard shook his head desperately as he said, âI wonât get out of the way! Where is Miss George? Itâs not what you all think. I can explain it!â
Nelson let out a rueful smile. The police had already arrived, so any explanation would be useless.
Richard shouted, âMiss George, please come out, Iâll explain things to you. You canât do this to Nelson!â
Amos quickly stopped him, âThatâs enough!â
âStop yelling! We are not blind either as we can see and judge things by ourselves. As for you, you can do whatever you want. Just donât bother us anymore! I believe that justice will be served by the police.â
After that, Amos gave the people behind him a look.
A few secret guards immediately came up and subdued Richard. Although Richard knew how to fight, he was still not as skillful as the professional guards of the Granger Family.
In the end, both Richard and Nelson were taken away.
â¦
The farce finally came to an end. The guests had already been arranged to leave the hall after the incident had broken out.
After the dust had settled, Clint took the initiative to come forward and bow to Amos.
âIâm sorry, sir. I didnât do my job well, otherwise, Miss Naomi wouldnâtâ¦â
Amos said in a low voice, âItâs not your fault. I havenât done well as a father. You are not the one to be blamed.â
Clint pursed his lips before saying, âActually, itâs not your fault. Itâs just that Nelsonâs act had been too flawless. I wonder what his motive is.â
âMotive?â
Amos snorted, âDonât you see it? Obviously, he was in cahoots with Monique!â
Clint was gobsmacked and asked, âDo you mean thatâ¦â
âIf Iâm not mistaken, he has actually been holding a grudge against our family. He must have regained his memory after he went abroad. I donât know what happened, but somehow Monique had hoodwinked him into hating us more. After the death of his adoptive parents, he should have been living by Moniqueâs side.â
âNeedless to say, the reason he came back to Rosaville City afterwards was to take revenge on us.â
Clint understood at once and he replied, âNo wonder we couldnât find any information about him. Monique really put in a lot of effort to disguise his identity so that he could come back for revenge.â
Amos took a deep breath and said, âAlright, letâs call it a day.â
He had understood the situation clearly, but Naomi, his own daughter, had already been hurt. He felt depressed at the thought of that. He said to Clint, âYou must be tired too. Go back! Iâm going to see Naomi first.â
âYes, Mr. Granger!â
After saying that, Clint turned around and was about to leave.
Charlie happened to dash in from the outside. He said in a hurry, âSir, something happened.â
âWhat is it?â asked Amos.
âThe police truck got hijacked, and Nelson has been taken away!â
â¦
In a strange dark environment, someone removed the black bag covering Nelsonâs head. After growing accustomed to the darkness, he gradually recognized the scene in front of him.
It was a room without any windows, and it looked like a basement. The room was stark with only a few pieces of furniture placed.
There was someone else in the room.
Monique stood opposite him, looking at him with a smile.
âNelson, Iâve told you a long time ago that you shouldnât fall in love with that girl. Do you believe my words now? How did you feel when you got sent to prison by your own beloved?â
Nelson gritted his teeth and said, âMonique! I didnât expect you to be here.â
Monique smirked and said in a sarcastic tone, âYes, I am here! I have been here all the time to see what will happen to you, the betrayer. Well, look where things have gotten you! Itâs been hard for me these days, but Iâm afraid that youâll suffer even more than me!â
âWhatâs the feeling of being a criminal, who has been kidnapped on the way to jail?â
Nelson was quite clear-headed. So, he replied, âItâs all your fault! If it werenât for you, those photos would not have appeared.â
Monique guffawed, then she said, âYeah, it was my doing! However, I couldnât do all that alone without the help of your good assistant, Frida.â
Following Moniqueâs reminder, Nelson spotted Frida, who was standing far behind Monique.
Due to the darkness, he could not perceive her expression clearly.
So, that was the reason why Monique was still able to stir up trouble although she was having a hard time herself.
Seeing how upset he was, Monique couldnât help but laugh.
âWhatâs wrong? Are you sad? It must be very disheartening to be betrayed by your own lover.â Speaking of that, the smile on Moniqueâs face gradually faded away, and a note of grievance appeared in her tone.
âThe pain you feel now is far less than what Iâve endured when I was betrayed by you before this. Iâve been so kind to you, but how did you repay me? Let me tell you, this is just the beginning of your suffering.â
Nelson sneered, âHow dare you say that I have betrayed you! You were the one who lied to me. Amos was never the kind of person you mentioned. You even beguiled my mother into listening to your orders and deceiving me.â
âYou were the one who started the deception. How dare you ask me to treat you well!â
Monique gave a snort before she spoke again, âYou can say that to yourself. With all the things youâve done to that girl, you arenât any better than me. Do you really think that she will forgive you and fall in love with you again if you turn against me now? Iâve heard that she called the police in person. I bet she wonât shed a tear even if I kill you now.â
Upon hearing that, Nelson wondered, âWonât she?â
For some reason, he was greatly devastated.
However, he was able to regain his composure.
âSo what? Thatâs none of your business!â
âIt seems that you still donât believe me. Fine, you will know the result of doing so soon!â
After that, she gave an enigmatic smile to him.
âWhat are you trying to do?â
âYouâve upset the apple cart and ruined my reputation. What do you think I will do in response to that? I have made it clear that no one can betray me, including those people whom I like.â
âHowever, if you change your mind now and comply with my orders, I may give you another chance. We can escape from Rosaville City and make a comeback together.â
Nelson sneered and said, âEven if I were to say I would give in now, would you still believe me?â
