Only then did Naomi find out that Nelson had sent her a message in the morning when she was at the hospital. She had overlooked it and forgot to reply to him.
She was a little embarrassed, and quickly apologized softly.
âSorry, I forgot.â
Nelson comforted her, âSilly girl, I donât want your apology. I was just afraid that something bad happened to you since you werenât replying.â
Naomi shook her head subconsciously and denied it, âIâm fine!â
âReally? Then letâs go to sleep! Staying up late is not good for your health.â
Naomi nodded. However, she couldnât help but bring up the court trial at the thought of attending it the very next day.
âActually, thereâs something going on.â
Nelson was heard chuckling as he asked, âIs it about the court trial?â
Naomi asked in surprise, âHow did you know it?â
âHow could I not know? I know everything about you. Donât worry, it will be alright! Iâll be there for you tomorrow.â
Naomi knew that it was her own business, and Nelsonâs presence there would probably not affect the results of the trial in any way.
Nevertheless, she was still delighted when he said that he would be there for her.
A while later, she felt sleepy. Hence, she rubbed her eyes and said, âGood night then!â
âOkay, go to sleep!â
Naomi asked curiously, âArenât you hanging up?â
âNo! I want to wait until you fall asleep first.â
It was a common thing between infatuated couples. Naomi used to hear it from Emma, who loved to gossip about the foolish things she did with her boyfriend.
They would chat from night till dawn and fall asleep together.
At that time, Naomi was so flummoxed that she couldnât understand it at all.
Now that she had experienced it herself, she finally knew the feeling of being in love.
People could truly be madly in love.
Naomi placed her phone next to her pillow before closing her eyes and falling asleep in peace.
At the same time, Nelson still couldnât rest easy.
He was studying some information for the case the next day while listening to Naomiâs subtle breathing through the phone. It was a very heart-warming moment for him.
It was not until her breathing gradually became smooth and steady that he hung up.
Then, he dialed another phone number.
âRichard, have you made the necessary preparations as according to our previous plans?â
Richard answered, âEverything is ready. Monique found someone to act as a witness, but we have our trump card too. I have contacted Moniqueâs subordinate, who was fired a few days ago. He can testify for us when the time comes.â
âWell done!â
After a short pause, Nelson asked again.
âHowâs my mom doing?â
âIâve hidden her in a safe place, and Iâm sure Monique canât find her. Donât worry, Iâve also arranged for someone to stay there and keep an eye on the surroundings. We will be notified of the situation from time to time.â
Nelson groaned, âThank you for your hard work! Rest early, there will be a hard battle for us tomorrow.â
Nelson had never been the type to not return a favour, especially after realizing how Monique used him. He wasnât going down without a fight.
He would show no mercy this time!
â¦
Meanwhile, Eudora couldnât sleep either.
She was very worried. Although Amos tried to make the problem sound as minor as he could, she was nonetheless still worried.
âHow could you agree to let Naomi go alone? Sheâs so guileless. What if something happens at the scene?â
Amos shook his head and comforted her, âItâll be fine! Besides, children have to learn how to deal with their own issues. Wasnât that something you said?â
Eudora still refused to comply, âIndeed, it was what I said before, but the situation is different now. She was just injured a few days ago.â
âWhy donât you have any faith in our daughter?â
Eudora fell silent for a moment before saying, âItâs not that I donât have faith in her. Itâs just that I canât help worrying. I used to hate my parents for interfering in our lives back then. Now, I am beginning to understand them. Furthermore, I have become just like my father. Even if I believe in her, I still canât help feeling worried.â
Amos reached out and pulled her into his arms, saying, âI understand your feelings. However, we should let Naomi face it once and deal with it by herself. We canât accompany her for the rest of our lives. In the end, she is going to have to live on her own. Itâs always better to practice and be prepared than to be at a loss when the time comes.â
Eudora finally agreed with him and sighed, âOkay, I get it.â
âGreat! Get some rest. If you donât want to be at home alone tomorrow, Iâll stay with you.â
Eudora pursed her lips and asked, âArenât you going to the company tomorrow?â
âThereâs nothing particularly serious. It will be fine even if I donât go.â
Eudora couldnât help rolling her eyes at him, âIâve read everything on the news. Everyoneâs saying how Iâm seducing you and causing you to neglect your work in the company.â
Amos retorted, âWho dares say something like that? Itâs my own fault for not managing the company well. It has nothing to do with you.â
âForget it. Iâd better do some gardening at home. You should head to the company, Iâll have Cindy to keep me company.â
â¦
Even though Amos had told Eudora not to be worried, she still couldnât fall asleep. As a result, she got up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for Naomi.
Thinking that there would be a tough battle for Naomi that day, she tried to prepare a nutritious breakfast for her.
There were eggs, almond milk, bread, hash browns and pancakes. Eudora hoped that after getting a full stomach, Naomi could deal with the problem well.
After she prepared everything, she went upstairs to wake Naomi.
Before she knocked on the door, Naomi came out in high spirits.
âMom, good morning.â
Eudora was taken aback and asked, âYouâre ready?â
âThatâs right! Do I look good?â
Naomi was wearing a white blouse, a black pencil skirt and a matching black blazer. She looked quite charismatic and ready for a fight. Initially, Eudora thought that Naomi would be having butterflies in her stomach before attending the court trial for the first time.
However, to her surprise, Naomi seemed extremely confident.
Eudora felt much more at ease in an instant.
âSince youâre ready, letâs go downstairs for breakfast. Iâve prepared a hearty breakfast for you. Make sure you are full before you leave.â
Naomi nodded and said, âOkay!â After following behind Eudora for some time, Naomi secretly turned around and gestured a sign of assurance to Amos, who was hiding in the corridor.
At the dining room, Eudora kept adding food onto Naomiâs plate.
âEat some more, itâs still early.â
Naomi rubbed her round belly. When she saw Amos coming down, she felt as if her saviour had arrived.
She took the opportunity to seek his help while her mother was busy serving the dishes.
âDad, please deal with Mom. Iâve helped you put her at ease, so shouldnât you help me finish all the food on the table?â
Amos nodded and said, âYou can go. Iâll handle it!â
âThank you, Dad!â After that, she hurriedly stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked out. Just then, Amos suddenly called out softly from behind her.
âGood luck!â
Naomi turned back and asked, âDad, what did you say?â
Amos felt a little embarrassed. The men of the Granger family had never been good at expressing their feelings.
âNothing!â
Naomi beamed at him and laughed, âI heard it though. Thank you, Dad!â
It was not until she reached the door and was about to leave that she heard Amos telling Eudora, âShe just left, so Iâll eat it.â
âSeriously, sheâs full already, so donât worry!â
âYou keep worrying about her. What about me?â
Naomi was speechless.
It was hilarious for Amos to actually be jealous of his own child.
