Meanwhile, in Bookerfield City.
Monique, who was in a bad mood, was sitting in the chair looking very annoyed.
âWhatâs the matter? Didnât I ask you to look for them? You have not found them yet, have you?â
Jamie looked terrified as he trembled, âMiss Monique, we have found the people that you have mentioned, but they are not willing to help!â
âNot willing to help? They must think we arenât sincere enough on our part! Tell them that as long as they are willing to help, weâll agree to any form of compensation needed!â
Monique then tossed her credit card to Jamie and scoffed, âTake it. Donât hesitate to get them only the best! If we donât secure their help, other branches will soon be affected.â
Jamie looked at the card but did not move.
Monique frowned and asked, âWhatâs the matter again?â
âMiss Monique!â Jamie was hysterical, âWe have already sent everything we could! Previously, you had already given us your card, but they still didnât want to help us out. Everyone immediately rejected us upon hearing our request and said that they canât afford to offend the other party!â
Monique slammed her hands on the table.
âWhat on earth are they scared about? Itâs just a minor company, so what is there to be afraid of?â
Jamie didnât dare to voice his thoughts aloud.
Did his boss forget about TEM Company?
Just when he was planning to say something, someone came in and reported to Monique.
âMiss Monique, Marvin is here.â
Marvin was an important person in the department involved in this incident. As long as he compromised, the matter could be resolved quickly.
Moniqueâs face lit up with joy and she immediately glared at Jamie.
âDidnât you say that they were not willing to help?â
Jamie was also dumbfounded as he muttered, âThatâs exactly what he saidâ¦â
âNonsense! Tidy up this place quickly! Let him in!â
Jamie bent down to tidy up the place. Similarly, Monique quickly touched up her makeup before standing up to welcome Marvin.
âMarvin, youâre here! Have a seat!â
Marvinâs attitude did not seem to have changed much. When faced with Moniqueâs warm reception, he said nothing and sat down on the sofa calmly and silently.
Monique took the opportunity to lean over and nestled herself in Marvinâs arms.
âMarvin, youâre the only one who truly loves me at this moment!â
Marvin lowered his head and pinched her face before sitting up straight.
âStop pulling things like these at desperate times like these. Iâm here to tell you that it isnât that I donât want to help you this time round. Itâs just that things are really troublesome now!â
The smile on Moniqueâs face gradually faded. She quickly blinked and put on her best puppy dog eyes, sulking as she said to Marvin.
âMarvin, do you really not want to help me?â
âItâs not that I donât want to, itâs that I really canât! Of all the people you could offend, why TEM Company? Although theyâve been very low profiled these few years, you have already seen for yourself the consequences of getting on their bad side. Of course everyone else would pick the side with the greater winning chances!â
Although Monique was angry, she remained calm before asking a while later.
âWhatâs so good about TEM Company anyways? They werenât really famous in Bookerfield City before.â
âYouâre probably unaware, but despite TEM Company constantly maintaining a low profile, they have been indispensable towards the development of Bookerfield City in recent years. As an outsider, you probably didnât know about this, but insiders like us are fully aware! Youâve really made a mess this time!â
Moniqueâs heart sank as she grumbled, âIs there really no way out for me? Weâve always supported each other at work! If all else fails, we could just donate more to charity in the futureâ¦â
âItâs too late for you! Iâm here to tell you personally because we have a good relationship. Thereâs only one way out for you now, and that is to address the root of the problem!â
With that, Marvin stood up, straightened his suit and headed out without looking back.
Monique stomped her feet in anger and knocked over everything that Jamie had tidied up just now.
âAddress the root of the problem? What does he mean? Is he asking me to go back on my words and beg Amos? No way!â
As soon as she finished her words, someone ran in from outside.
âMiss Monique, thereâs terrible news!â
Monique was furious and shouted, âCanât there be any good news?â
Her subordinate was so frightened that he fell silent. It was only after Monique sat down in a fit of rage and lit a cigarette for herself that she finally demanded, âContinue!â
âMiss Monique, several of our foreign branches have just reported back to us that the news about what happened here has spread. Their whole market has been severely affected, and many large clients are cancelling their exclusive contracts with them! One of them would rather pay for the liquidated damages just so they can terminate the contract with us!â
Soon, another person ran in.
âMiss Monique! Weâve just gotten news that our stock price has fallen a lot todayâ¦â
Monique was so anxious that she was about to crush the cigarette in between her fingers.
âGet out! Everyone, scram!â
Quickly, most of her subordinates were shoved out of her office.
Monique leaned on the sofa alone, and all she could see was darkness.
No one could enjoy success at the very start of their career. She had worked effortlessly, working hard just so she could arrive at her current level.
Even if she relied on having a relationship with prominent figures, she still gave it her all.
Now, everything was going to be taken away instantly. How could she allow such a thing to happen?
No! Of course not!
She couldnât just sit there and wait for her doom!
With that thought in mind, Monique quickly opened her eyes.
She tidied up her clothes, composed herself and walked out the door.
âBook me a flight back to Rosaville City!â
Jamieâs eyes lit up as he asked, âAre you going to look for Mr. Granger?â
Were they finally going to come to a compromise?
Monique glared at Jamie and shouted at him, âYouâre fired!â
After taking a few steps forward, she couldnât help but turn back and kick Jamie. She then announced, âI, Monique Chilton, will never apologize!â
She was going to return and fight against her enemies!
She had to win to prove that she was no worse than Amos Granger!
â¦
In the meantime, Amos stood at the door of the kitchen, his arms crossed as he looked at Eudora, who was busy in the kitchen.
âI told you to rest at home! Why are you still so busy?â
Eudora laughed, âIâm not tired, so why should I take a rest? Naomi is not in good health now, so Iâve decided to make something for her! These are all the dishes she likes!â
Amos frowned as he asked, âWhat about me?â
Eudora paused for a moment before saying, âWhat happened? Arenât you healthy as a horse?â
âHealthy? Naomi has someone to take care of her. Youâre mine. Why do you always think about her?â
Eudora was speechless and could only chuckle, âHow old are you? Why are you jealous of our child? Arenât you afraid of being laughed at?â
âWho would even dare to?â Amosâ expression darkened.
âMe! Iâm laughing at you now!â Eudora teased.
Amos sighed. He could only respond by lightly tapping her nose and giving in, âYouâre the only one who dares to laugh at me!â
Eudora pursed her lips. Just then, she looked up at him, seemingly thinking of something to ask him.
âWait a minute. Did you just say that Naomi has someone to take care of her? Does that mean that youâve accepted Nelson?â
When Amos heard this, his expression grew a bit unnatural.
He coughed softly before saying, âNo one said that Iâve accepted him! I just noticed that heâs been treating Naomi pretty well recently. I still have my eyes on me!â
âIf Naomi knows that youâve accepted him, she will be very happy,â Eudora snickered.
âYouâre not allowed to tell Naomi!â Amos warned her lightheartedly, âOtherwise, Iâm pretty sure sheâll be so full of herself that she canât rest properly!â
