As Eunice was dying, her vision had gotten worse!
Arthur told her that they were there to watch a movie, and she had believed him.
He held onto Eunice, but she kept asking him curiously.
âWhy is the cinema so close to the hospital?â
Arthur was sobbing silently, but he still managed to hold back his trembling voice and told her.
âItâs a newly opened cinema.â
âThe movie tickets must be very expensive, right? You have spent a lot of money on me, you should not waste them. Why donât we return the tickets and get a refund?â
âItâs fine, I won these from a lucky draw!â Arthur chuckled nonchalantly. His seemingly cheerful tone and white lie were all excuses to hide the pain he was feeling in his heart.
âThatâs great!â Euniceâs pale face was full of smiles as she said, âDidnât I tell you? The world is still a very beautiful place!â
Arthur was most likely unable to hold in his feelings anymore and quickly replied, âNo, itâs not beautiful. If it really is as beautiful and kind as you said, why does it torture you so badly? Why wonât it give you a chance to live?â
Eunice frowned and explained, âDonât be like this! Iâm actually very happy. Although my family is not rich, my parents have always been very good to me. Furthermore, you came into my life later on. Although we have not been together for a long period of time, I am very happy! God has been very kind to me!â
Naomi felt very uncomfortable. She had seen a lot of people complain about how unfair life was, but she did not expect to see a cancer patient here who still believed in the beauty of life.
It was enough to touch peopleâs hearts.
âThe movie is about to start!â Naomi reminded the two of them gently.
âOkay!â Eunice answered with a smile. She was worried she would cause trouble to others.
After they were seated, Nelson winked at the projectionist next to him. The movie then officially began.
It was a sweet movie. As Naomi did not want Eunice to leave with bad memories, she chose a rather relaxing and light genre to watch together.
During the movie, Arthur and Eunice were quite intrigued with the movie. Though, none of the people around them were in the mood to enjoy it.
Euniceâs mother already had tears streaming down her face, but she gritted her teeth and restrained herself from crying out loud.
Halfway through the movie, Eunice suddenly sighed thoughtfully.
âIt would be great if they could get married! Although I know that they will definitely be together in the end, I really hope to see them get married!â
After Eunice said that, she noticed that it became very quiet in the theater hall, so she quickly covered her mouth.
âIâm sorry, everyone. Iâve disturbed you all!â
Everyone else laughed it off and continued watching the movie.
However, they were all painfully aware of Euniceâs thoughts. They were unsettled and uncomfortable with what was going to happen to her.
During the second half of the movie, Eunice gradually looked weaker. One of the nurses sitting at the back poked Naomi secretly and whispered, âThe patient does not look very well. Letâs bring her back!â
Naomi nodded, âAlright. With this, hopefully, we managed to fulfil her last wish. You can go ahead, but let Arthur be the one to inform her!â
The nurse nodded and ran over to whisper to Arthur.
Soon, the two of them got up and slowly left the theater hall.
After they left, Naomi discovered that there was a great plot twist at the end of the movie.
The movie started out sweet and romantic, but quickly soured towards the end. Apparently, the female protagonist became seriously ill, and eventually accepted her boyfriendâs proposal to undergo euthanasia.
The ending was too miserable. Fortunately, Eunice did not see it to the end.
When they returned to the ward, there was a commotion in the corridor.
Naomi rushed over and saw that the doctor was shaking his head at everyone.
âApologies, we have really tried our best!â
Naomiâs heart skipped a beat. Just then, the door to the ward creaked open. Arthur peeked out and told Naomi.
âMiss George, Eunice wants to meet you!â
Naomi was stunned, âSheâ¦â
Arthur nodded, âYes, she knows!â
âSince she knew, why did sheâ¦â
âEunice said that she didnât want everyoneâs goodwill to go to a waste. She says that sheâs really lucky!â
Naomi felt even sadder when she heard this. Why couldnât such a good girl live happily? Was life really so beautiful?
She quickly composed herself and followed Arthur in.
Euniceâs face was pale as she laid on the bed. Arthur walked over and called her name softly.
âEunice, Miss George is here!â
Eunice slowly opened her eyes and struggled to get up.
Naomi hurriedly reached out to stop her, saying, âDonât get up, just lie down!â
But even so, Eunice still asked Arthur to help her up.
âThank you, Miss George.â
Naomi felt her chest tighten with dread. In truth, she didnât really do anything. She was in no position to accept Euniceâs gratitude.
âYouâre welcome, but I really did not do anything.â
âNo. To me, Miss George is like an angel sent by the heavens. Youâve given me the greatest gift of realization that the world is a beautiful place. Iâm happy to leave with such good memories!â
Soon, the light in her eyes dimmed. Despite the suffocating silence, Naomiâs thoughts were lingering on the last yet bright glimmer of hope in Euniceâs eyes.
â¦
Eunice finally passed away, but she left with a smile.
Although her family members said that they were very grateful to Naomi, she found herself unable to leave the ward for quite some time.
In the past, she always thought that things like life and death were worlds apart from her. Yet, this time round, she had witnessed death firsthand. It suddenly felt terribly close to her.
It felt so close to Naomi, it was as though she was going to lose someone she loved the very next second!
Just then, Nelson walked in with a lunch box in his hand.
âAre you hungry? Iâve asked someone to prepare your favorite dishes today. Would you like to try some?â
Naomi shook her head and said, âNo, I donât have the appetite to eat now!â
âCome on, you canât! Itâs not like your parents are in the hospital now, so why are you acting up? You have to eat something! At least a few bites!â
As he spoke, Nelson took out the packed lunch boxes and opened them one by one.
âIt smells so good!â
Naomi remained unmoved. Her gaze was fixed upon the busy Nelson, her thoughts wandering.
Nelson took a bowl and filled it with some soup. He then took a spoonful and brought it to Naomiâs lips.
âIt smells great! Come on, take a sip!â
Naomi looked into his eyes and suddenly felt sad.
âNelson, will you leave me one day?â
Nelson was stunned at the question but quickly replied, âWhy would I? What are you thinking about?â
âI just feel very sad. I saw how Eunice left in just a few days. I canât help but think: what if you leave me like that one day? Will I have the courage to continue living? I donât think I can!â
Nelson heaved a sigh of relief and immediately reached out to hug her.
âNonsense! Of course I wonât leave you! I promise you, I will take good care of myself and my body. Only then can I take care of you in the future!â
Naomi nodded and asked again, âPromise? You canât go back on your words. If you go back on your words, Iâll hate you for the rest of my life!â
âOf course! Iâll give you my word!â Nelson said with a smile.
âSince thatâs out of the way, why donât you have something to eat? If you donât, you wonât be taking care of yourself. When that happens, I canât guarantee that Iâll break my promise!â
