At the moment, Tiffany was wearing a hospital gown. She leaned against the wall, and walked forward little by little.
However, it seemed that her body was extremely weak. After just a few steps, her body swayed and she almost fell down.
Nelson quickly rushed toward her and reached out to hold her.
âMom!â
Tiffanyâs entire body trembled. Her ice-cold hand firmly grabbed onto Nelsonâs hand.
The next second, she raised her head, and her eyes were filled with pleasant surprise.
âNelson? Youâve come here to see me?â
Nelsonâs eyes were slightly teary as he spoke, âIâm sorry, Mom. I didnât know that you were ill. If I had known, I would have come to visit you earlier!â
âIt doesnât matter!â Tiffany shook her head. âYou were busy. At least youâre here now!â
âLet me help you to your ward!â Nelson said.
Tiffany nodded. After she returned to her ward, she began to enthusiastically introduce some of her things to Nelson.
âThis is delicious. Why donât you have a try?â
When Nelson took a look at it, it was actually just an ordinary piece of bread.
âWhat food do you like to eat? Iâll buy you more.â
âThereâs no need for that! Itâs good enough to have such a simple meal. Do you remember when we were living a hard life when you were little? There was once when you had cried out of hunger, and a kind man had given us two dollars. I then used the money to buy you this bread!â
Nelson nodded. How could he forget about the past?
During that period of time, Tiffany failed to disclose all details about their past. Truth be told, they would starve for several days.
Nelson felt that he might have starved himself to death at that time!
Tiffany failed to tell him that she had knelt down to that man to beg for that particular piece of bread. However, the man actually felt disgusted instead, and said that they were beggars who were blocking his way, proceeding to throw that piece of bread into the trash can.
Tiffany had picked the bread up from the trash can and torn the dirty parts, quickly handing it to Nelson.
She herself had secretly eaten all the dirty parts of the bread!
As he thought of the past, Nelsonâs heart ached again.
âMom, Iâm sorry.â
âWhy are you apologizing for? Iâm fine now. Fortunately, Miss Chilton helped me and arranged for such a good doctor for me.â
Monique shook her head and replied, âItâs nothing, Auntie!â
Later, after Tiffany chatted with Nelson for a while, the doctor entered for an examination, and Nelson came out of the room.
Nelson asked the doctor a question when he came out from the ward.
âMy mother is still so young, so how could she suffer from such a serious disease?â
The doctor sighed and said, âThis illness has nothing to do with age. Furthermore, when your mother was sent to our hospital, she was extremely weak. From what we understand, she was in prison for a few years, right?â
Nelson frowned slightly. The doctor hurriedly said, âSir, please donât misunderstand me. I donât mean any harm! After our investigation, we discovered that during her years in prison, she had suffered a lot. As a result, her body suffered a lot of serious damage, which resulted in her illness!â
The doctor sighed again and said, âNow, the only thing we can do is to take good care of her! We will do our best!â
Nelson frowned as he asked, âShe suffered a lot in prison?â
âWhatâs the matter? Are you still in a bad mood?â Monique asked. Then, she added, âItâs okay! Iâve already told the doctor to give Auntie the best treatment and try not to make her suffer!â
âThank you!â Nelson said indifferently.
âYouâre welcome! I still have something to do, so Iâll take my leave first. Why canât they let me have a good rest now that Iâm back? If you need my help, you can contact my assistant!â
âAlright!â
After Monique left, Nelson immediately dialed a phone number.
As soon as the phone call was connected, he heard whining from the other end.
âD*mn it! Youâve finally contacted me! Itâs been a long time since youâve been back! Whereâs Richard? Didnât we make an agreement to go out for a drink together?â
âIâm sorry, Patrick. I have something to do this time, so I canât meet up with you! Iâm looking for you because I remember that you are in the business of private investigators and you have a lot of friends. Can you help me to investigate some matters in Rosaville City?â
Patrick was taken aback and asked, âRosaville City? Isnât that where youâre from?â
âThatâs right.â
âI have an old friend there who I havenât contacted for many years. However, as you know, itâs not my territory. Itâd be okay for me to investigate but itâd be difficult to take any actual action!â
âYou donât need to take any action! I just need you to help me investigate Rosaville Cityâs prison and what Tiffany Leon experienced in there!â
âTiffany Leon?â After Patrick asked more questions about Tiffany, he then hung up on the phone call in a hurry.
Tiffanyâs voice came from the inside, and Nelson quickly entered.
âMomâ¦â
Tiffany was not in a good condition. She seemed to be having nightmares as her forehead was covered in sweat.
âDonât hit me, donât hit me! Iâll listen to you, Iâll do my job, donât hit me! Donât make me drink that water, I donât want to drink it!â
Tiffany became incredibly anxious, even beginning to hit herself.
She had an IV drip on her arm. As she moved frantically, fresh blood began to flow from her arm.
Nelson hurriedly rushed over to hold her hand. He said in a gentle voice, âMom, itâs me. Donât be afraid! Itâs fine now, itâs fine!â
Tiffany heard Nelsonâs voice and finally quietened down.
After a while, she went back to sleep.
However, fear was still apparent on her face.
Nelson saw her helpless expression and felt extremely upset.
He spent the whole afternoon silently staring at Tiffany.
During the evening, his mobile phone rang. There was news from Patrick!
âNelson, Iâve found something. Iâve sent the information to you through WhatsApp. Take a look at it!â
Then, Patrick sighed and said, âIâm sorry, but some bad things have indeed happened to her. I hope you wonât become too sad upon seeing them!â
Nelson felt that the results of the investigation were not too positive, and he no longer had the mood to chat with Patrick. So, he quickly hung up on the call and opened the document.
There was a lot of information. He opened the file, and read it bit by bit.
Everything that Tiffany had experienced in those years in prison was much more serious than what he had imagined.
There had been a dedicated personnel who was in charge of watching her in prison. Every day, he would torture her. Not only that, but Tiffany had also attempted suicide seven times in prison but she had failed each time.
More than once, Tiffany was discovered with feces all over her body, her clothes raggedâ¦
Nelson no longer dared to read on. He stretched his hand out and pushed Tiffanyâs sleeve up. There were indeed several slit wounds on her wrist.
Looking at it, he suddenly felt his eyes starting to burn. Then, a tear from him dripped onto Tiffanyâs arm.
âMom, Iâm sorry!â
After he calmed down, he quickly called Patrick again.
âHow could such a thing happen in prison? Help me to investigate those peopleâ¦â
âThereâs no need for that!â Patrick said. âIâve already checked everything. Turn to the last page. The information Iâve found is there. That personnel seems to have been arranged to deal with her by someone with the last name of Granger.â
