'Yours is cool too. It can also be really helpful in certain situations.' I told him. He seemed to be in thought for a bit before turning to me.
"Yeah but I wish I could do more with it. Yours and Nikolai's are really cool. Nikolai, you should tell him about yours!" Lachlan said as he looked over to where Nikolai was seated. He had moved to sit on the floor in front of us when we started conversing.
"We-well it's noth-thing special r-really." He said sheepishly as he scratched at the back of his neck. "It has t-to do wi-th my tat-too. It can ch-change colo-lor and move depend-ding on how I'm f-feeling. And I can s-summon snakes fr-rom the gr-ground." He said. My eyes immediately went to his tattoo and studied it closer than I had before. It truly was beautiful.
'That's really cool!' I told him. He thanked me quickly before I asked them a question.
'How did you guys meet each other?'
Lachlan seemed to be deep in thought before he answered me. "We met back in our home town. We both went there from our homelands, mine being Australia as you can probably tell, and his Russia. Being two new people in an unfamiliar town brought us together and we were by each other's side ever since." He told me. He looked at Nikolai with admiration in his eyes as he finished talking, I was almost jealous by the look he was giving him. I wish someone would look at me like that.
'That's sweet.' I wrote before Nikolai changed the subject. He asked a bit about my past, nothing too deep, and I told them all that they wanted to know.
I had also asked questions to them about their pasts and learned that Nikolai was incredibly smart, "like genius level" as Lachlan had said, and had been apart of the military. It made sense considering how he was built. Lachlan also fled Australia to get away from his family after he was outed as pansexual from a previous ex he had.
That made me feel bad for him. I then told them about my parents. They were kind and accepting but had unfortunately passed when I had been around 12. I'm sure they would've loved both of these guys though. Since I was 12 I have lived alone which wasn't all that bad but it felt like I finally had a connection with these guys around me.
Eventually the question that I was expecting the most and wanted to answer the least came from a very timid Nikolai.
"Um, we-well I've been re-really cur-rious about som-something. W-why can't yo-ou talk?" He asked softly. I immediately tensed up when I heard him ask.
The incident isn't something I like talking about. What he put me through, I could just never forget. He took everything away from me. He didn't even consider how what he did would affect my life. He. ruined. me.
I am snapped out of my thoughts by a squeak that came from Lachlan. I then realized my whole body was trembling and I felt my throat get scratchy. Fuck. Here it comes.
"Oh my god!" Lachlan yelled as he studied my shaking body. Spiders began tumbling out of my mouth, ears, and eyes. They were basic wolf spiders, but they scratched my throat up as they came out, causing me to cough in pain as I ran outside.
They were going to think I was a monster now that they've seen this. I don't blame them though, I wouldn't want to be with someone that did this either. I wish I could control my damn emotions better, fuck.
I walked back inside after having released all of the spiders and cautiously walked back to them. Nikolai looked at me with worry swirling around in his blue eyes, making me feel bad.
"I'm-I'm so sorry." He told me as he walked over to meet me halfway. "I shou-shouldn't have as-sked." He said. I shook my head at him and walked back over to where my paper was.
'I'm sorry I reacted like that, I can't control it. I'm not mad at you at all, I'm just not ready to tell you guys about it yet. I will tell you when I am though.' I wrote. As I handed him the paper I had the itch to hug him. How would he react if I did?
"That was actually cool! It hurts you though doesn't it?" Lachlan said as he returned to where we were with a cup of cool water. I signed 'thank you' and nodded.
"Of course! Oh, I forgot to say but I know a little bit of sign. I learned back when I was in primary school so I don't know much. How much do you know?" He asked me. Nikolai handed me back the paper so I could answer him. He then got behind me and sat on the couch, pulling me onto him so I was sitting in his lap.
I huffed put a breath of surprise as I turned to look at him. He didn't acknowledge my gaze but I could tell he was blushing and from the corner of my eye I could see his tattoo light up a light pink color. That's adorable.
'I'm fluent, but nobody around me bothered to learn it after I lost my voice so I just communicate through writing.' I wrote as I finally answered Lachlan's question.
He nodded to my answer and sat with us on the couch. The three of us talked for about an hour or so longer before we decided to play a board game together, settling on monopoly.
