Chapter 9: Going Back Jasmineâs POV âPlease fasten your seatbelt,â the flight attendant announces. The plane is about to take off now. I look at Diego, who is busy on his phone.
I held my tummy. Weâre leaving now, baby. We are going to start a new life. But donât worryâI will make sure that you have a good life.
I sigh and look out the window of the aeroplane.
âAre you scared?â Diego suddenly asked me and stopped what he was doing. Scared? Yes, I am; Iâm scared that one day if my son grows up, he will ask who his father is. Iâm afraid that one day he will see other kids with their fathers while he doesnât have one. I might be scared that if he could understand and think about things, he would come to me and ask me about his father. Iâm scared that he would beg and ask to meet his father.
âFor now, I am. Iâm scared, but I can do itâfor us, for my son. âHe looked at me with worry on his face.
âStop worrying about yourself. Do you know what my sister told me?â He said that made me look at him.
âShe said whenever youâre afraid, I should not leave youâand kept on telling you that you should be brave, just like how you tell her and convince her to fight for her disease. Donât be afraid of trying new things, Jasmine; even if Iâm gone, Iâm always here supporting youâ I covered my mouth.
Those were the last words she said before I left her that day.
My tears started to fall as I realized that Diane didnât leave me. Sheâs still here, guiding and helping me through my journey.
âHe never failed to tell you about you. Youâre indeed a great friend of hers. âHe added that made me nod.
It hurts losing someone like her who is always there to hear my rants, sheâs easy to be with. Even when sheâs dying, she never fails to think about me.
âShe loves you Jasmine, and Iâm happy that she met someone like youâ he said and his words comforted me.
âIâm lucky to have a friend like her; sheâs incredible.â I saw her hardship. I saw how she wanted to give up her pain, how she still wanted to live and explore the world.
âShe wants to see you happy again; thatâs why she asked me for a favour,â he said and tapped my shoulder.
I wiped my tears and cheered myself.
I wanted to step into the airport without thinking about all my pain. I will forget everything and forget about them.
I wasnât lucky to have an honest man, to build a complete family, or to be free of all the struggles, but I am lucky enough to have a best friend like Die.
I let out a heavy sigh and wiped my tears before showing a smile.
âThank you, Diego. I donât know what to do without you helping me. âI said and smiled at him.
About Travis? I will make sure that he never sees his son again. He doesnât have the right to even talk to him or know him. The moment I stepped out of that house, I already forgot that my son had a father.
To her mom, I will never let her hurt me again, not me, not even my son. I wonât be letting them see him. And I have no plan of coming back to that place.
Baby, one day, you will understand why I chose to leave. I will not stay in that place knowing that if they found out that youâre Travis Son, they will hurt you or get you away from me.
I love you. I am doing this for us. For your future.
âYouâre a brave woman, Jasmine. I know you can do better without me. You are strong. Not everyone can do what youâre doing now.â Diego said.
Heâs like his sister advising me. I know Diego often talks sincerely with other women, and Die told me about it.
At first Iâm surprised but Iâm getting used to his attitude.
âAm I? I think Iâm the kind of woman who is easy to Replace. Or Iâm the kind of woman who doesnât want a man to keep on. âI joked, but deep inside, it was some truth.
âNo man could afford to keep a woman like you whose only intention is to give love more than a man deservesâ âhis words made me smile.
I canât believe that he sees me like that. No one has ever told me that before, not even Travis.
âStop smiling. You look crazy,â he said, going back to his phone.
I just rolled my eyes. After he comforted me with his words, he would call me crazy. Heâs really unbelievable.
Sometimes, I think that Diego is not around. Dianeâs spirit possessed him.
âSorry, Die,â Iâm just joking. I looked at Diego, who was now looking at me like I was insane.
Winning Her Heart Again (Jasmine)
ï¤Chapter 8: On My Own âWhat?â I raised my eyebrows, and he just shook his head.
I feel sleepy, and Diego notices it.
âYou can use my shoulder if you want to sleep. Iâll wake you up when we get there.â He said, offering his shoulder.
Since I was really sleepy, I closed my eyes and rested my head on his shoulder until I fell asleep.
âJasmine,â I heard a voice calling me, and after that, I felt a light tapping on my face.
âWake up,â I slowly opened my eyes, and I saw Diego waking me.
âWeâre here,â he said. When I sat properly, he stood up to get our luggage. I even saw him stretch his shoulder and massage it.
âAre you okay?â I asked him, and he just nodded.
He carried out things and didnât fail to tell me to be careful while walking up the stairs of the plane.
I smiled when I saw the place that made me hurriedly walk.
âBe careful!â He shouted, but I didnât listen to him.
Finally, I could start a new life.
