Chapter 14: A Burden Jasmine POV âCan we talk?â I was busy writing my business proposal when Diego came into my office. I smiled at him while he sat on the quest chair.
I donât know why he came here. All of a sudden, he looked serious.
âWhatâs the matter? Where is David?â I asked him to wait for him to enter the room, but he didnât show up.
âHeâs still in school. I will pick him up later. âHe said that which made me nod. I heard him let out a heavy sigh.
âWhy did you come here all of a sudden? âI sound curious; he only came here when it was really an important matter.
âDavid told me that he wants to go back toâ, I cut him off. I messed up my hair and leaned my back on the chair. I personally do not want to go there, but what can I do? My son wants to go back to the place where I grew up.
âDiego, I know. I promise never to go there. My son accidentally saw that picture, and heâs begging me to bring him there, âI explained to him. His expression changed, and it became serious.
I donât know why heâs acting weird.
âBesides, I just found out that I have a business there, and I canât appear there without you. You know that, and I wonât just let my son stay here while we are far away from him.â I hope he understands. They knew Diegoâs company well. We are both helping each other make it even more successful.
âI almost forgot, I just- nothing,â he said and stood up.
âWait, are you mad? If you want, I could cancel that business, and I will talk to my sonâ I donât know what got into him and why heâs acting strange.
âIâm not mad, Jasmine, I just- damn it!â He messed up his hair, which shocked me. Whatâs wrong with him?
I went closer to him and touched his shoulder. I knew we were both busy, and I knew he was busier than I was.
âWhatâs really your problem, Diego?â I calmed myself. He looked at me straight into my eyes. I waited for his words, but he didnât dare open his mouth and say a word.
âHow can we fix it if you donât want to tell me? You help me every time, but when you have your own problem, you donât want to share it with me.
Donât you think youâre being unfair to me?â I was mad, not because he came here and asked me about going back to that country. Iâm mad because heâs being unfair.
When I was the one who had a problem, he kept on asking about it and helping me. But when he was the one facing a struggle, he didnât dare to share it with me.
âThereâs no solution to my problem, Jasmine. I donât think you can help me with it,â he directly said. I was offended, I admit. But why does it feel like heâs underestimating me? Why is it like he doesnât trust me?
âAre you telling me right now that I wouldnât be able to help you just like the way youâre helping me?â I laughed sarcastically.
âNo-â I cut him off. I looked at him seriously. I didnât want to fight with him, and I kept on avoiding fighting with him.
âI know that from the start, Iâve been a burden to you, Diego, especially now that I have David with me. But I can help you too. It feels like you donât trust me that much.â I turned around to go back to my chair when he held my wrist.
âI never saw both of you as a burden, Jasmine; you knew that. Even when I went back to that time, I decided to help you. I will always choose to help you. âHis voice became soft as he looked at both of our hands.
I donât know whatâs on his mind. I canât read it.
âYes, because thatâs Dianeâs last wish, right? Do you think I couldnât notice you having problems all day every time we were together? You seemed to be thinking so deeply that you even forgot that you were with us. These past few days, I have always caught you not into yourself. Whatâs really your problem, Diego?â I couldnât stop myself from asking him. He held both of my hands, figuring out how to tell me the reason for his actions.
Iâm also dying to know what it is. Itâs just that I hated it when I saw him like that.
âYes, I did it because Diane told me to, but I never regret helping you and your son. I treated David like my own, and I never regretted it. I couldnât tell you, knowing that you might change. You may not treat me just like how you treated me now, Jasmine, âhe said and looked away. I donât get him.
I have no reason to hate him or to not treat him like before. Why would I do that?
âWhat do you mean? Of course, I am not. Why would I? Diego, you help me a lot. You helped me raise my son, giving him the love of a father even though itâs not your responsibility to do so. You sacrificed too much for me. Why would I change the way Iâm treating you? I donât understand you.â I held both of his hands. I donât have any idea what is making him think of that.
âJaz, Iâm not against us coming back to that place. I also wanted David to see and explore that place. âHe said that made me smile.
âThen tell me, Diego, whatâs wrong?â He sighs and looks into my eyes.
Winning Her Heart Again (Jasmine)
ï¤Chapter 13: Mommy Loves You âI know itâs not the right time to tell you this, Jasmine. Iâve been trying to tell you this for years, but I couldnât.â My heart began to pound so fast.
I remember the same scene like this before, âJasmine, I like you. No, I love you. Iâm sorry, I tried to stop it but I couldnât. â
