Chapter 0394 Hannah Noah held his jacket out to me, the warmth of the soft fabric all too inviting against the coldness of the room. âHere,â he said softly. âTo cover yourself.â
I blinked owlishly at him for several long moments, my mind and my heart warring against each other. On one hand, it was so, so relieving to see a familiar face here, particularly Noahâs face. But on the other hand, I hated him. I hated his very being with every fiber of my own.
In that moment, whatever shock and excitement Iâd first felt upon seeing him was quickly replaced with rage.
Without thinking, I smacked the jacket out of his hands, the fabric landing on the floor with a soft thud.
âI donât want your filthy jacket,â I spat, wrapping my arms around myself. The thin material of my robe did little to ward off the chill of the space, but I would be damned if I deigned to accept anything from him.
Noah sighed as he stooped to pick up the discarded garment. He straightened, dusting it off and stepping toward me. âHannah, please. Youâre practically naked, and itâs freezing in here. Iâm just trying to help-â
But I was already turning away, my bare feet slapping against the cold tile as I stormed over to the door. Guard!â I called out, banging on the hard steel. âTake me back to my cell! I want a real lawyer!â
The guard didnât come. Suddenly, Noahâs hand caught my arm. His touch sent an unwelcome jolt through me, a mix of familiar comfort and burning betrayal. I yanked away as if burned, my skin tingling where his fingers had been.
âGua-â
âHannah, wait,â he cut me off, his voice low and urgent. âYour father called me. Iâm here to help you.â
I whirled around, fury bubbling up inside of me like molten lava at that. âMy father called you? Why the hell would he do that? He should have called an actual lawyer, not... not you!â
I grit my teeth, thinking back on the night my daughter had been bornâthe way that my father had asked if we should call Noah.
The hopelessly romantic bastard... Didnât he know that I despised my exâhusband? I would have words with him once I got out of here, that was for sure.
Noah ran a hand through his hair, a gesture so familiar it made my chest ache with memories I had tried so hard to bury.
Dammit. I had to look away to hide the sudden flush creeping up my neck.
âHe thought I might be able to help more than a regular lawyer,â Noah explained. âAs an Alpha-â
âHa! As an Alpha,â I cut him off ruefully, my voice dripping with sarcasm. The irony of the situation wasnât lost on me. âRight.
Because that title means so much when it comes to me, a woman, doesnât it? When Iâm the one being dragged out of my home in my robe? Away from my baby? Being leered at like Iâm a piece of steak?â
His eyes, those damn forest green eyes that Melody had inherited, widened. They were so full of concern. It made it hard to maintain my anger, but I clung to it like a lifeline. I knew he was full of shit. He was likely just here to mock me, to âHannah, please,â he pleaded. âJust tell me what happened so I can help you.â
+25 BONUS Chapter 0394 The whirling thoughts in my head suddenly stopped.
Was he...?
I wanted to refuse, to tell him to go to hell, to tell him that I saw right through his ruse. But something in his gaze made me hesitate. The last time I saw him, he had looked so... harsh. Aloof. Calculating. But now Against my better judgment, I found myself speaking.
âFine. If you want the story, then here it is: Alpha David tried to force himself on me last night,â I said. The memory of Davidâs filthy hands on me, his alcoholâlaced breath hot on my neck, made me shudder. But ! controlled myself and continued, âSo I beat the shit out of him. Thatâs why Iâm here.â
Noahâs expression darkened for a moment, a flash of anger crossing his features before a small, proud smirk tugged at his lips.
âYou beat him up? On your own?â
Despite myself, I felt a flicker of satisfaction at his reaction. âYes, I did. And now Iâm here, arrested for defending myself. Because apparently, thatâs what happens when youâre a female Alpha.â
Noah nodded, his face growing serious again. âThis is clearly a case of selfâdefense, Hannah. I can help you. As an Alpha, I have enough power to get you out of trouble. One word from me and you would be freed.â
The injustice of it all felt like a knife in my gut. Noah could swoop in here and save the day, and meanwhile, my word as an Alpha had been completely disregarded.
âItâs not fair,â I muttered, more to myself than to him.
âI know itâs not,â Noah said softly, taking a step closer. âBut Hannah, Melody needs you. This is the fastest way to get you home to her. Just let me help you.â
At the mention of my daughter, I felt my resolve weaken ever so slightly. I could almost hear her cries, feel her tiny body in my arms. But then I remembered everything Noah had done, how he had accused me of cheating, how he had doubted Melody was even his Anger flared anew, hot and sharp in my chest. To hell with his soâcalled âhelpâ. I didnât want it.
âKeep her name out of your mouth,â I said firmly, turning away from him. âIâd rather rot in a cell than accept help from you. Youâll just use it against me to get Melody anyway. Thatâs why youâre here, isnât it? To get leverage to bring her back to Nightcrest now that you know sheâs your true heir?â
âHannah, I wonât-â
âSave it,â I cut him off, my voice sharp enough to cut glass. âI donât believe you. Thank you for coming, but Iâll handle this myself.â
I strode over to the door again, raising my fist to bang on it. Where was this damn guard, anyway?!
But before I could reach the door, Noah was there. In one swift motion, he spun me around and pressed his lips to mine. The kiss was desperate, urgent, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe. His lips were warm and familiar, and...
He pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against mine. I could feel his breath, warm and quick, fanning across my face.
+25 BONUS Chapter 0394 âHannah,â he whispered, his voice so low I could barely hear it over the buzzing fluorescent lights and my own racing heart. âI remember. I remember...â
Before I could process his words, he was kissing me again. My eyes widened in shock, my mind reeling as his lips moved against mine.
What did he mean, he remembered? Remembered what?
