Andrew woke up feeling sleepy; he didnât get much sleep since he was on the phone listening to his soon to be ex-wife.
She cried and cried, while she explained why she cheated on him. As if any explanation justified cheating.
He gets up to only find Evan, ââwhereâs Drew?ââ He asks rubbing his sleepy eyes with his hands.
ââHe had morning classes so he had to leave early, I donât have any til noon.ââ Evan answers in a monotone voice. Andrew frowns as he sees the always happy boy in a depressed mood.
ââEvan, is everything alright?ââ He questions and the boy startles.
ââYeah, just some things I have going on no big deal.ââ Andrew smelled a lied from a mile away, he learn how to tell when Drew was lying when his son was younger, so he knew Evan was lying.
ââAnything I can help with?ââ He tilts his head to the side as he studies Evan closer, the blue eyes were missing that happy glint he had before, the smile was a robotic one and not the genuine one he always had, his hair seemed out of place as if he tossed and turn restless in his bed, after all Andrew should know that since he was doing the same thing last night after the phone call with his cheating ex.
With a decision on helping Evan, he smiles and sets his hand on Evanâs shoulder and gave him a gentle squeezed.
ââYou said you donât have classes until noon, so how about you help me look for an apartment.ââ Evan opens his mouth to declined but felt like an ass, so instead he smiles even though he wasnât feeling like it.
ââSure sir, let me just take a quick shower and Iâll go.ââ Andrew happily nods and goes to Drewâs bathroom to take a quick shower himself, his job gave him a few days to get settle before he went in.
Evan thought about it, maybe helping his best friendâs dad look for a place could be a good thing, he need it to keep his mind occupied to forget about the jerk that broke his heart.
He shouldâve known better, dating a closeted man was a disaster waiting to happen, his ex-boyfriend wanted to marry a girl, have kids and graduate from college, all they did is have sex indoors. They never went out in public and if they saw each other out the bastard would ignore Evan.
His eyes started to watered a little but he shook his head shoving them away, the asshole wasnât worth his tears, if he wanted to get married to the girl he started seeing then he can but Evan wasnât staying in the background as the dirty little secret.
He shut off the shower and dried off; once he was dressed he went out to find Andrew, wearing a white shirt, jeans, and cowboy boots.
He studied Andrew, the man could pass as Drewâs older brother, he didnât look old enough to be a father, hell what the fuck was wrong with Drewâs mom sleeping with Evanâs dad.
In Evanâs eyes Andrew was way better looking than his dad and ewe thinking about his dad wetting his brush was disturbing.
They went to hail a cab and got in.
At first it was a bit awkward being out there alone but Andrew wanted Evan to trust him, he wanted to help the boy, well the man since Evan did grew up.
They checked some condos, some apartments but nothing Andrew would like, they all seemed too impersonal for him, he wanted a warm home where family could sit down and actually feels love.
Call him a softie but he wanted a backyard for when his son had kids, the grandfather role didnât scare Andrew at all.
ââYou know, we seen like four places already and you didnât like any of them, I have a feeling youâre looking for a house.ââ Evan points while chewing on his French fry.
Andrew drag his gaze from his burger to meet Evanâs blue eyes, but his eyes stopped at Evanâs lips, they had ketchup on them and Andrew didnât stop himself as he reach up and wiped Evanâs lips with his thumb.
ââWhat, what, sir what are you doing?ââ Evan was shocked at the movement, this was something a boyfriend would do not his best friendâs dad.
ââSorry, you had some ketchup on you.ââ Andrew mumbles blushing.
ââSo Evan, I see you dating already.ââ The familiar voice made Evan feel like a bucket full of ice water was thrown at him.
ââDavid, howâs things with the fiancée?ââ Evan asks after he swallowed his fry.
ââGood, weâre good but never mind me, I didnât know you had a thing for older man.ââ David the bastard, the asshole, the ex-boyfriend smirks as he looks at Andrew from head to toe.
ââDavid, what I do with my life or who I date is none of your business, so why donât you leave us alone.ââ Evan snaps angrily, he knew he should say that Andrew wasnât his boyfriend but something inside of him stopped him from doing so. He wanted to prove to his ex that he could move on, that he didnât succeed in breaking Evanâs heart. Even if that was a lie David didnât need to know the truth.
ââDavid is it? Oh like I care, now would you mind leaving us alone, so we can continue our lunch, we have plans before my Evan has to go to classes.ââ Evan widens his eyes as Andrew says without hesitation his Evan, that shouldnât have made him happy, it shouldnât have made him feel butterflies but it did.
Andrew shocked himself when he said my Evan, He was even more shocked when he decided he didnât want to take it back, he didnât like the man standing in front of their table, something told Andrew this was the reason Evan had been depressed this morning.
ââI knew you were a slut, Iâm glad we parted ways when we did.ââ The bastard drawls emotionless, but since Andrew was older and more experienced, he knew that this man was jealous.
ââArenât you lucky than, now you can go on pretending youâre straight and marry your girl, now go away before you catch the gay from me.ââ Evan sneered, Andrew turn his gaze on David, the man was red and Andrew knew it wasnât because he was embarrassed, no he was angry that Evan was dismissing him.
ââEvan we need to talk, meet me later after classes.ââ David didnât wait for a response, as if he knew Evan would just up and go to meet him.
Once they were alone, Evan sighs as he pushes his unfinished food away from him; he was fighting the tears that were threatening to spill out of his eyes.
ââEvan, do you want to talk about it.ââ Andrew offers and Evan smiles sadly.
ââNothing new, in closet boy meets out boy and they start a secret relationship, the closet boy decides heâs tired of playing gay and dumps said gay boy to marry a girl.ââ Evanâs voice went from low to softly muttering as he look everywhere but at Andrew.
ââEvan.ââ Andrew whispers as he puts his hand on top of Evanâs.
ââYou deserve better than someone who will just use you, you deserved a man who will love you and care for you no matter what, donât settle for anything less.ââ Evan chokes a sob as he stares at their intertwined hands.
ââIâm starting to think nothing like that is ever going to happen to me.ââ Evan states with a shaky voice.
ââIt will, all in itâs on time, youâll see.ââ Evan study Andrewâs eyes, he saw honesty.
He also notice how beautiful Andrewâs eyes were, one blue and one green they were very rare and Evan found that they suit Andrew, his nose, and those kissable lips. Evan yanks his hand from Andrewâs and clears his throat, what the fuck was he doing checking out his best friendâs dad.
ââHow, do you do it?ââ Evan questions Andrew.
ââHow, do I do what?ââ Andrew was confused at the question.
ââYou just found out your wife and your best friend were sleeping together behind your back and yet youâre here trying to convince me that there is love out there for me, how are you not biased after what you went through?ââ Evan stops his ranting after and just stared at Andrew waiting for his response.
Andrew smile sadly as he thinks of the right words to answer the young man.
ââMaybe, me and her werenât soul mates, and we werenât meant to be together, maybe thereâs someone else out there for me, whoâll love me for me, I donât know if it makes any sense to you.ââ Andrew finished telling Evan chuckling nervously.
Evan slowly nods with a small smile, it did make sense and he hope that Andrew would find that one person he deserved. A little flick of hope pass through his head at the thought of him being that person, but he quickly squashed that hope, knowing it would be impossible.
ââWe should get going, I need to go to classes.ââ Evan tells Andrew as he stands up and slowly starts walking away.
Andrew sat there for a minute, frowning as he lifts his hand up and stares at it, it was the one he held Evanâs with, he felt tingles when they had that small contact, what did it mean? He also felt the loss of the young manâs touch.
Andrew found himself watching Evan, the wavy messy black hair, the blue eyes and his pouty lips.
The way he walks with so much confidence. He stops short as realizes that he had been checking Evan out as if he was checking a woman.
He had never check out a man before, and checking his sonâs best friend made him feel like an old perverted man. It needs to stop before he fucked things up between his son and his best friend.
He did meant what he told Evan, he wanted that special someone who would treat him with love.
He just didnât know where he would find that person, but decided he wonât go looking for her, sheâll will show up when the time was right. For now he would just continue looking for his own place, and go onto his new job.
