The house for the four of them, no... the five of them including Alistair, was indeed big.
âIt used to be a magic tool shop. See,â Kyaro pointed after weâd entered the house. It certainly did look like a shop; there was a counter that looked like it belonged in a bar, behind that were several shelves, and below that were some shelves with locks on them. Also, there was another door, and there were some counters in front of the counter at the back, and I could see that goods were supposed to be put there.
Currently, everyoneâs belongings were tossed messily in a corner.
âAnd at the back of the shop is, up you go,â Kyaro carefully placed me on the counter. My body was definitely that of an infant because I got excited when I sat in high places.
âLei likes high places,â Clyde bragged.
âReally?! Iâll put her on my shoulders next time.â
âWyaro shmaww.â
âStupid. Being short has its perks for being-. Hey Lei!â
He got a little angry. Kyaro hopped near the counter, then he went inside and held me on his left before opening the door.
âWoah!â
âRight? Itâs a little dirty, but weâll clean it later so you can play here.â
This was probably the workshop. In the square room that was as big as 33m2, there were built-in shelves, miscellaneous tools packed away, and tables and chairs near the back. The moonlight shone through the window, illuminating the whole room.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âDushthy.â
âHaha. Well, we donât really use this room at all. Weâll need to clean it first.â
âAi.â
Itâs incredibly dusty.
âNext is the quarters.â
âAai.â
We went out from the counter, and this time, he opened the door next to the counter.
âHereâs the dining room.â
âWow, ah, aai.â
âWhatâs wrong?â
Kyaro looked at me, which was in his arms. There is a big table, and it has a kitchen. In other words, this is a big dining room. But,
âDirthy.â
âHuh, really?â
âOiw shthicwy.â
âBut we do wash the bowls.â
It became like this because youâre only washing the bowls. This needs cleaning. And yet, Mill is sorting out the ingredients that were left over from our journey. Are the ingredients going to be alright?
âWeâll prepare a chair for you.â
âAi.â
âSay, Lei, donât you want to walk?â Alistair fidgeted as he said. I looked at the floor. It was sticky.
âDonâth wanna.â
âCause, donât you wanna walk upstairs? The bedrooms are on the 2nd floor.â
âIâww go!â
I had Kyaro put me down in front of the stairs.
âAlistair, donât worry. I wonât take your Lei,â Kyaro said while laughing.
âI-itâs not like that. But, Lei likes walking. Right?â
âWiwe wawwing.â
âSee?â
Actually, I also like to be carried, but I canât say that now can I?
But a test was waiting for me.
The stairs were dirty. I canât walk up there with my hands.
âLei, whatâs wrong?â
âHandsh wiww geth dirthy. Cawwy.â
âOh well, fine.â
Alistair held me while smiling and continued up the stairs while Kyaro giggled behind us. It canât be helped. Itâs still hard for me to climb up the stairs without using my hand.
After weâd climbed the wide stairs, there were several doors on both side of the hallway.
Alistair explains while putting me down, âBefore the shop closed down, they had a lot of employees and apprentices, so they made a lot of rooms for them. So we still have a lot of rooms left even if we have our own rooms.â
Then itâll probably be okay for me to have my own room.
âThis is my room.â The room Alistair pointed at was right next to the stairs. When he opened the door, I saw a snug room with wooden pillars and ceilings with white mortars on the walls. He had a simple bed, a small writing desk and a chair. The room looked big only because he had very little belongings.
âLei, you can stay with me, alright?â
Iâve been sleeping alone since I was born. I was also alone in the day time. I donât mind sleeping in a room alone.
âLei shweep awone awwaysh.â So I donât mind sleeping alone, was what I was trying to say. But Alistair bent down and hugged me.
âItâs okay. Iâm here with you now, so youâre not alone,â he said.
âIf you get tired of Alistair, then you have me.â
âMe too.â
Kyaro and Clyde, who were peeking in the entrance, said.
âClean your rooms before you guys say that.â
âShyt.â
âI donât want to be told that.â
The room filled with laughter because of Alistairâs rebuttal. Alistair might be the one whoâs lonely when heâs by himself. I guess I can stay with him until I get a bit bigger.
âLetâs make a small bed.â
âYeah. Letâs try making one during our breaks.â
Huh? Thatâs it? Alistair turned around and said, âCan I help?â I wonder how his posture is when he sleeps. Boys move a lot in their sleep. While I was worried, Bart said, âHey, our foodâs here.â
âFood!â
âItâs food!â
Kyaro and Clyde shouted as they ran down to the first floor. Alistair and I looked at each other and laughed. This time, I slowly walked down the stairs without holding his hand.
âShould we put in hand railings?â
âWe should.â
That was also Kyaro and Clyde. I looked at them curiously, and Kyaro pointed at himself and said, âWeâre carpenters.â Huh? Donât you guys hunt Hollows?
âEberywon hunther.â
âOh, Leiâs smart,â Bart grinned.
âBut you know, you canât be a hunter when you get older. Hunters earn a lot, but thereâs no guarantee it will last you your whole life. Thatâs why a lot of hunters have other jobs when theyâre not hunting. And they continue to do that job when they retire from hunting. By the way, I work at a magic stone shop,â Bart said shyly. So thatâs why Kyaro and Clyde are the carpenters, huh.
âBwed.â
âYeah, weâre going to make it for you,â Kyaro said, and Clyde nodded. Then what about Mill?
âMe? I help out at a restaurant. Iâm a chef.â
So thatâs why he was in charge of the cooking while we were travelling. Then Alistair?
âI havenât decided yet, but Iâm helping at Brendelâs magic stone shop.â
I see.
âLei?â
Then what about me? An awkward silence filled the room. I wonder what I should do from tomorrow on.
