Chapter 27
SIDONNIEâS POV
âAthena,â I called out from outside as I hurriedly stepped into the warmth of our home, the echoes of my footsteps mingling with the anticipation of reuniting with my family after a long day at work.
âShh,â Athena hushed, her index finger placed delicately across her l*ps. Her eyes sparkled with a subtle mischief as she motioned for me to keep my voice down.
âMason just slept. You donât want to wake him,â she added in a soft, almost conspiratorial tone.
The ambiance in the room shifted as I absorbed her words, immediately adjusting my energy to match the tranquility that was previously in the house.
Standing near Masonâs room, Athena greeted me with a smile that radiated both warmth and weariness. Her eyes looked tired yet filled with an unmistakable love, met mine, and a silent understanding passed between us. The unspoken routine of co- parenting my bundle of joy and maintaining peace in the home, resonated in the air.
As I approached her, she gestured toward Masonâs room, inviting me to share in the quiet beauty of the moment. Together, we stood at the door, as we stared at the preciousness of the scene before us â the innocence of a child peacefully lost in dreams and the simple joy of family, preserved in the quietude of the evening. That would not be the first time we would look at Mason while he slept but doing it over and over again. felt new everytime we did it.
âI found out what you said I should,â I began, the weight of the information evident in my expression as I shared the details with Athena.
âHow is it?â She inquired, her eyes reflecting a mix of concern and anticipation.
So
âAlpha Raina wants to get married to Alpha Carlyle by all means. I got to know that sheâs
obsessed with him. In fact, she was the one who brought the idea to Alpha Rex after Alpha Carlyleâs first visit.â
âThatâs terrible. Not good. Sheâs going to be after you soon,â Athena observed, her words laden with a sense of foreboding.
âYes, Athena. Thatâs exactly my fear the moment she could connect me with him.â I admitted, a trace of anxiety tinging my tone. The sudden intrusion of a potential threat disrupted the peaceful life I had been living, raising questions about the inexplicable

twists fate could throw our way.
âThe goddess knows best, Donnie. Everything that happens is fated in one way or the other. But itâs a sign. Donnie. I want you to be prepared,â Athena advised, her words carrying a sense of wisdom and a touch of maternal concern.
âWhat sign?â I asked as I was confused.
âMy child, you will understand when itâs time. But Iâll say one thing, donât deny how fate. wants to work. Allow it, embrace it.â
âAlright, godmother.â I agreed, though a sense of uncertainty lingered. Athenaâs cryptic guidance left me pondering, trying to decipher the threads of fate that seemed to be weaving around my life. The unexpected turn of events had cast a shadow on the tranquility I once enjoyed, and as I prepared to face the unknown, I couldnât help but wonder what destiny had in store for me.
One thing I knew was that sheâs always looking out for me and she definitely canât me in dangerâs way.
âYou didnât bother asking around for the reasons for Alpha Carlyleâs visit?â
put
âI tried getting an answer to that too but it was a dead end. I heard that the reason he visited was made confidential.â
âThen, that must mean something very very important, Athena reasoned out her thoughts, and I nodded in affirmation.
âThatâs true, godmother. Since he could come ask an Alpha like Rex, itâs extremely important and anything with such importance to Alpha Carlyle is life threatening.â
âIt shall be well. Athena heaved a sigh, staring into space. When she talks sometimes, it feels like she could see the future. Iâve asked her how she does it but she replied that itâs the wisdom of an old supernatural. Up till that moment, I didnât know which supernatural being she was exactly. All I could tell was that she has a good mind.
âI hope so,â I replied, observing her.
âDonnie dear, kindly help me go pick an herb.â
âWhich herb is that? And where can I find it?â I asked, paying attention to details. That wouldnât be the first time I ran such errands so it wasnât anything new to me. In fact, Iâve learnt a lot about medicine from her since she was well versed in it.
âYouâve not picked one like this before, so pay attention to this. The herb youâre picking

is called the White Dasier. Its flowers are very white and beautiful. She began describing the herb while I took note,
ââ¦to crown it all, it has an alluring fragrance. Immediately you see it, cover your nose. It arouses oneâs greediness and puts one in slumberâ
âBy greediness, you mean oneâs greedy thoughts?â
âExactly! Only beings with pure mind wouldnât be affected by it when activated, Iâm not saying youâre not of pure mind but prevention is better than taking risk. The white Dasier doesnât like evil thoughts around itâ
âWow, thatâs incredible. I never knew such flowers existed. How did you know about it? I asked with curiosity.
âIâve lived longer, you knowâ She said, and I didnât bother disturbing her about it. Anytime Athena says âsheâs lived longer in the tone she said this, then itâs probably a secret she doesnât want me to know yet.
âAnyway, Iâll tell you more about it when you return. Head over first.â She said, arousing my happiness.
âYouâve not told me where Iâll find it.â
âYouâll find it in the woods close to the Mountain of Canth.â
âMountain of Canth?â I turned back sharply to look at her, the name resonating with a sense of mystery. Iâve aways heard about that terrain when I was still in Moon Shade, during the packs geographical lessons.
âYes, dear.â She replied expressionlessly, her gaze meeting mine. I could sense that she was aware of the significance of the location, yet she chose to withhold certain details. deliberately.
âIsnât that the area close to the forbidden land of Aridah?â I questioned, the mention of Aridah heightening the mystery of the situation.
âOf course, it is. But youâre not getting to Aridah. Youâre going to find it before you even get around that area.â She explained cryptically, her words hanging in the air with an unspoken significance.
I furrowed my brow, trying to unravel the layers of meaning in her words. The forbidden land of Aridah was shrouded in myths and legends, a place where only few dared to venture. The mention of the Mountain of Canth, situated close to such forbidden terrain, only added to the mystery surrounding the quest she was sending

me on.
A mix of curiosity and apprehension settled within me. Athenaâs guidance had always. carried a touch of the divine, and the unknown journey that lay ahead seemed to hold something I was yet to know.
âCan I choose to go tomorrow? Perhaps before going to work? Itâs getting late already, Athena, and that place is rumoured to be so dangerous.â
r
âItâs better you go today, Donnie dear. The Goddess shall watch over your every step.â She prayed, leaving me no choice but to go. Athena wasnât someone who would send me an errand, and I wouldnât go. She has been there for me through thick and thin and she rarely sends me on an errand. So, I had no choice on this..
As I prepared to embark on the expedition, the echoes of her words rang in my cars, making me wonder what awaited me near the Mountain of Canth.
