The cold, reinvigorating, Italian water felt so good on his scales as Luca swam through the water. There was just something about being in the ocean that always helped him clear his mind. Perhaps it was because he was going back to his roots, the familiar comforting atmosphere, or just the plain fact that no matter where he would go, the ocean would always be where he came from. He would call it his home but Luca didn't believe that home was a physical place. He believed it was a person, a certain person in his life and you could probably guess who.
Luca was in a pickle now. There were three hearts on the line. His, Giulia's and Alberto's. He didn't care if he got heart broken, he could handle it. But Giulia was his friend, he cared about her and he knew that he didn't want to go on a date with her. Not for the selfish reason he said yes. Luca had said yes to the date with Giulia because he thought it might help distract him from being in love with Alberto and potentially move on. But Giulia's feelings for him were real and he didn't want to lead her on. And Luca knew he would never move on from Alberto. He didn't want to and he felt comfortable in his sorrow.
Luca made up his mind. He would swim home and find Giulia and clear things up and then try and talk to Alberto and repair their friendship. Then, everything would return back normal.
It would be like he and Alberto never kissed.
"I know what I have to do." Luca whispered.
Alberto glided through the water running on nothing but pure hope and adrenaline. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he would be okay. He was going to be honest with Luca. Life is too short to not try. He was going to tell Luca how much he loved him and if he didn't reciprocate, that's fine. Alberto's heart would be a little hurt but he just wanted his best friend back. But overall, he knew he had to tell Lucsa how he was feeling and stop beating around the tush...or however that human saying goes.
Sometimes the most important things are the hardest things to say.
"I know what I have to do." Alberto whispered.
