Chapter 0062 +25 BONUS Elizabeth laughed. âNot all of the publicity around this has been negative,â she explained. âThere are many people who take your side in this and find Davidâs continued pursuit of you shameful.â
âIâm happy to hear that,â I said. âI would hate to think that my familyâs reputation would be harmed by this.â
âHeâs not a hero,â Elizabeth said. âHe did the bare minimum by showing up to protect you. He should have raised the alarm as soon as he heard about the plan. Then that Rogue could have been captured in time.â
âI hadnât thought of it that way,â I said with a frown Elizabeth nodded. âItâs true. My father feels that way, and his investigation has revealed that it would have been quite simple to track that Rogue down if they had known ahead of time that he was planning something. All David had to do was make a phone call, and it all could have been prevented.â
âBut he wanted the attention of saving me,â I said with disgust. âSo he allowed me to be attacked.â
âThatâs the way it seems to me,â Elizabeth said. âHe really is the worst.â
I nodded my agreement, and as I did, my eyes drifted away from Elizabeth and towards one of the screens mounted on the wall.
My mouth fell open in shock as I saw Davidâs face yet again.
âWhat is he doing now?â I muttered.
At my words, Elizabeth turned to see what I was looking at The volume was off, but the closed captions were turned on, so we could see what David was saying. He had an angry expression on his face as he spoke to someone, and it looked to me like he was in his own pack lands. It seemed that even he was being harassed by the press over this.
âI donât want to speak to the media anymore. Youâre just taking my words out of context and making things worse, âthe closed captions read clearly. âElla will reconcile with me; you just wait and see. Sheâll have to. Who else could love a heartless, cold, wolfâless woman like that anyway?â
I stared at the screen in shock. His words were so harsh and cruel; I couldnât believe that he was saying them publicly.
Elizabeth turned to look at me with concern on her face. She reached across the table and held my hand. âDonât worry a rabout what he says. All heâs done is make it clear what a cruel, heartless man he is,â she said.
âBut there will be people that side with him,â I said. âThere will be those who agree that Iâm useless without my wolf.â
âThose people are fools,â Elizabeth said insistently. âYou must not let their words hurt you.â
I squeezed her hand gently. I knew that she was right, and I truly appreciated her comforting me in this moment. I hadnât expected to see something so harsh today. It caught me off guard, and maybe because of that, I found those words truly hurt.
I felt the sting of tears in my eyes, but I forced them back. âYouâre right,â I said. âHis words mean nothing to me.â
Elizabeth patted my hand. âThatâs right. You donât need him and you certainly donât need his approval. Now letâs have some fun and focus on something less depressing.â
I laughed slightly and nodded as she handed me the drinks menu. âOf course youâre right. Weâre here to have a good time, not to focus on the negatives.â
I looked over the menu, but my mind was elsewhere.
Chapter 0062 +25 BONUS If this was the way David was going to keep behaving, then had to find a way to stop it. I couldnât allow him to do more damage to my reputation that would jeopardize everything that Alexander and I had planned.
I had to think of a way to put an end to these games.
