Chapter 0180 +25 BONUS My father smiled, the kind of proud smile that always made me feel like I could take on anything. âThatâs my girl, â he said warmly. âNow, it seems to me youâve had a very long day. Why donât you go get some rest? Youâve got therapy in the morning, right?â
âThatâs right,â I confirmed. âMy occupational therapy appointment. Iâm still not used to going every week. I almost forgot.â
âWell, donât forget,â he said with a chuckle. âYouâre making progress, and thatâs what matters.â
I smiled, feeling a small flicker of pride at his words. âThanks, Dad.â
The next day at my therapy appointment, my good mood persisted. Things went well, even though my usual therapist was out and a substitute was helping me.
She was a young, pretty woman with light brown hair and a kind smile. She looked vaguely familiar, but her name didnât ring any bells, and I couldnât place where I knew her from. She was talkative as we worked through the exercises, many of which involved stretching and breathing practices.
To my mild amusement, she had a lot of questions about Alexander, which wasnât surprising. He was quite popular with the ladies, after all. It was only natural for people to be curious about him.
âIâd feel insecure being with someone as attractive and popular as that,â she said as we stood up from the exercise mats where weâd been stretching.
âI did feel a little insecure at first,â I admitted. âBut Alexander isnât what youâd imagine. Heâs not full of himself or cocky because of his popularity.â
âNo?â she said, sounding surprised. âIt doesnât affect him at all?â
âIt affects him,â I replied, âjust not in the way youâd expect. It doesnât make him overconfident. If anything, it makes him hyperâ
aware of his role and the fact that he has to be careful to meet peopleâs expectations, especially when it comes to doing whatâs best for his pack.â
âHe sounds pretty incredible,â she said with an odd smile.
âHe is,â I agreed.
She stared at me for a moment, then walked over to the nearby countertop and picked up her laptop. While she was focused on the screen, I studied her face, trying to place where I had seen her before. Then it clickedâshe had been an intern at my doctorâs office years ago when she was still in school.
But there was something else. Her name was different.
âAre you married?â I asked suddenly, the question escaping before I could think it through.
She looked startled, glancing up at me. âNo. Why do you ask?â
Thesitated, unsure how to respond. I was certain she was the same person I remembered, but the name difference threw me off. Maybe I was wrong, or maybe she just had one of those faces that was easy to mistake.
âJust curious, since weâre talking about relationships,â I said lightly, not wanting to offend her.
âMaybe one day,â she replied with a small smile, then turned her attention back to the screen. âYouâre making good progress. I think we should continue the weekly meetings for now, but soon weâll be able to move to twice a month.â
âIâm glad you feel Iâm making progress,â I said. âBut I donât feel like I am. Shouldnât I be feeling my wolf by 1/2 +25 BONUS Chapter 0180 now? Shouldnât there be some signs that this is working?â
âThe signs are subtle,â she said. âSometimes you donât even notice them.â
âIs there anything else I can do to speed up the process?â
âYou said youâre exercising regularly, right?â
I nodded.
âThen youâre doing everything you can. Thereâs no reason to rush it. Youâll only make it harder on yourself if youâre impatient.â
Her reassurance eased some of my tension. âThank you,â I said with a small smile.
âOf course. It looks like your regular therapist will be out again next week, so Iâll see you then. Have a great week, Miss Rowan.â
âAnd you,â I replied. I gathered my things and headed out.
As I stepped into the sunlight, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out, expecting something mundane.
But as my eyes scanned the screen, my breath hitched. My blood ran cold.
The text was from a contact I never thought Iâd hear from again.
