the door clicked behind chan.
he was extremely excited to hangout with mingyu, because he hasn't really gotten the chance to get close with them individually. and it made chan feel better of himself when mingyu willingly invited him.
when chan stepped out his dorm building, he realized it was slightly chilly, but the sun made up for it. the snow began melting a week ago, which chan was upset about because he loved winter. however, he didn't mind spring and quite frankly, he missed it as well.
chan glanced around the area and made eye contact with a tall man who was leaning against a street light. he walked closer to him and wasn't expecting to see mingyu, only because he thought he was going to be in a car, but it seemed like he walked to chan's dorm.
"we're walking to the art museum?" chan whined.
mingyu rolled his eyes, "hello to you too."
chan grinned immediately, "i'm just kidding. let's go!"
without thinking, chan began to walk but stopped when he realized mingyu wasn't following him. he looked back and raised an eyebrow at the older boy. "what are you doing?"
"do you even know which way we're going?" mingyu shakes his head, trying to hide a smile. he points to his left, the opposite direction chan was going in. "c'mon, this way."
"honestly, i haven't left my dorm in a month," chan said pathetically.
mingyu snorted, "yeah. it looks like this is your first time being outside."
"i've only gone to the museum a few times, but it was years ago."
"well, i'm glad i can take you to one then," mingyu looks down at chan with a smirk.
chan looked away quickly because he was never good at holding eye contact, especially with someone who looked as good as mingyu.
after a few minutes of talking about nonsense, mingyu stopped in front of a cute café. he held the door open for chan, the bell above signaling people were entering.
chan scratched the back of his head, embarrassed. "um... it's okay, hyung. im not feeling very hungry."
"i'm starving though! this place is amazing, they have great meals and desserts here!" mingyu complaining, grabbing chan's wrist and pulling him inside the café.
immediately, the smell of the fresh bakery hit him and chan practically drooled at all of the different treats. not only did the food look appealing, but the entire atmosphere was comfortable as well. there were lights hung across the room, table and chairs placed in the middle, and a variety of shelves displaying different cups and plates.
"close your mouth, a bug might fly in there," mingyu said smugly, lifting his finger to chan's jaw so he could help close his mouth for him.
chan rolled his eyes, but the warmth in his cheeks betrayed him. "haha, very original."
mingyu lead chan to a nice table for two, next to the window, where the sun was pouring in.
"mingyu hyung... i didn't want to say this earlier but the reason why i didn't want to eat is because i didn't bring any money." chan said quietly. "i know it's stupid, because what kind of person doesn't bring cash with them? but ive been struggling with personal finance for a while and-"
mingyu put his finger to his own lips, motioning for chan to stop talking. "it's okay. you think i wasn't going to treat you? it's on me. i am the hyung here, aren't i?"
chan forced out a laugh, and even though he felt extremely guilty, he wasn't going to let this ruin his date-evening, with mingyu.
eventually, mingyu pulled out a digital camera, which looked extremely expensive and started snapping pictures of the scenery outside and inside the café.
chan wasn't going to lie, but he admired how creative mingyu is. his pictures were beautiful and the techniques he used created a nice composition.
"how long have you been doing photography?" chan asked, leaning his chin on a fist.
mingyu questioned himself, looking up and thinking. "probably since my first year in highschool?"
"it's been a long time," chan stated.
"yeah. i just think art is insanely beautiful and i love how someone could make something, that no one really knows the message to, except the artist." mingyu explained.
after a long hour, both boys left the café.
-
mingyu once again opened the door for chan, letting him walk into the museum first. chan shouldn't have felt so weak about mingyu being a gentleman, but he was an absolute sucker for them so he couldn't help it! who wasn't?
"this is my favourite art museum," mingyu told chan as they walked across the room, looking at the different sculptures. "i've never brought anyone here before. well, except for you, now."
"then i feel honoured," chan said with a smile.
this place must be very personal to mingyu if he hasn't even brought his friends here. chan doubted him at first.
chan also ended up pulling out his phone and started to take pictures of practically everything; all the art was just so beautiful! no wonder mingyu comes here often. plus, there's not that many people around, so the atmosphere is completely peaceful.
"you're using a basic phone camera?" mingyu questioned, scoffing. "use mine."
chan huffed out a breath, dragging his feet towards mingyu. "my phone camera has good quality!"
"i promise you, i've had this camera for years and it's like my child," mingyu said before twisting his face into a confused expression. "wait. that sounds kinda odd."
"kinda?" chan shook his head. "fine, let me see it."
mingyu pulled the strap from around his neck and draped it around chan. when chan gripped the camera, he wasn't expecting it to be so heavy. he was thankful for the strap, because if it wasn't around his neck, he definitely would have dropped it. chan found out that he was extremely bad at holding the camera and he didn't know how to work anything on it.
mingyu chuckled, clearly finding his humiliation amusing. the taller boy stands behind chan and places his hands over chan's. "this top button is to take pictures. before you press down on it all the way, first you have to hold it down halfway until you hear the shutter sound. that basically means that the camera is in focus and is ready to take a picture."
despite chan wanting to listen to mingyu's instructions, he couldn't help but zone out once he felt how close mingyu was to him. his hot breath tickled the side of his neck and made goosebumps rise across his arms.
"chan? are you listenting?" mingyu asked, and of course he said it right into chan's ear.
chan took a step forward and cleared his throat before taking a quick picture of a random sculpture, and handing the camera back to mingyu.
mingyu didn't say anything. but chan could see the small smile on his face. he totally knew.
-
it ended up getting pitch black outside and a lot more windy. chan hugged his arms, releasing a huff of air.
"i can't believe you didn't bring a jacket," mingyu said in disbelief.
chan pouted and turned his head, "i didn't think we'd be here all day!"
"so you're saying you didn't have fun with me?" mingyu stopped in his tracks abruptly.
chan did a double take, "that is not what i said!"
mingyu grinned, "i'm kidding channie."
chan just shook his head.
suddenly there was a light weight on his shoulders and chan turned to see mingyu placing his jacket over him. "hyung, i'm fine. it's really cold."
"exactly," mingyu snorted. "don't worry about it."
"how can i not? you've taken care of me this whole day. how could i repay you?"
mingyu looked down at chan, as if he was hesitating to say something. then he looked back forward, pink on his cheeks. "i don't expect people to repay me when i take care of them. i just... think it's nice to treat people once in a while because their reactions are worth it."
chan couldn't believe he used to think mingyu was an asshole. it turns out, chan is fast to judge and mingyu is the sweetest person he's ever met.
"i had a lot of fun today, hyung," chan stood in front of his dorm building. "i'm totally going to get in trouble for breaking curfew, but whatever. at least i can check that off my bucket list."
mingyu giggled. "your bucket list?"
chan nodded, "yep! that's right under my second one; convincing drunk people i'm their boyfriend."
"you'll probably get slapped for that."
chan shrugged, "probably."
before mingyu got the chance to leave, chan wrapped his arms around mingyu's waist, hugging him from behind. he buried his face into his back. "thank you for today hyung. i hope we can do this again." chan murmured.
mingyu placed his hands on top of chan's and relaxed in his hold. "me too channie. and we will."
