Olivia's POV
The night is quiet, but my mind is anything but. I sit on the edge of my bed, replaying Briarâs words from earlier. She deserves to feel safe and cared for, and itâs my responsibility to make that happen. My thoughts are interrupted by a soft knock on the door.
âCome in,â I say, sitting up. The door opens, and Caleb walks in with his usual confident stride.
âYou look troubled, Alpha,â he says, studying me with concern. Caleb isnât just my betaâheâs my best friend, someone who can read me better than anyone else.
âIâm not troubled,â I reply, though my tone betrays me. âJust⦠worried.â
Caleb raises an eyebrow. âWhatâs on your mind?â
âI want Briar to trust me and our relationship,â I admit, leaning back against the headboard.
Caleb smirks. âThen why donât you take her on a date?â
I blink at him in disbelief. âWhat am I, a 19-year-old teenager?â
He laughs, shaking his head. âNo, but Briar is. If you want her to trust you, you have to build that trust. Take her out, talk to her, spend time together outside the training grounds. Show her youâre invested in her, not just as a mate but as a person.â
I nod slowly, his words sinking in. âYouâre right.â
Caleb grins. âI always am.â
I chuckle as he stands to leave. âGood night, Alpha,â he says before closing the door behind him.
Reaching for my phone, I type out a quick message to Briar:
Hey Briar, thereâs no training tomorrow. After college, do you want to hang out with me?
I hit send and wait for her reply, my heart beating just a little faster than usual.

Briarâs POV
Iâm lying on my bed, scrolling through my phone aimlessly, when it buzzes with a new message. Itâs from Olivia.
I sit up and open it, my eyes scanning the text. No training tomorrow? And she wants to hang out with me? My heart skips a beat.
I type back quickly: Are you asking me out on a date?
A reply comes almost immediately: What if I am?
I blush, my fingers hesitating over the keyboard before typing back: Then Iâd love to go on a date with you.
Her response is quick: Then itâs a date.
I smile, holding my phone close to my chest. Tomorrow is going to be⦠special.

Oliviaâs POV
The next day, I wait outside Briarâs college, leaning casually against my car. My heart races as I see her walking toward me, her eyes lighting up when she spots me.
âHey,â she says, smiling shyly.
âHey,â I reply, opening the car door for her. She slides in, and I circle around to the driverâs side.
âWhere are we going?â she asks, her curiosity shining through.
âItâs a surprise,â I say with a wink.
---
The car ride is filled with lighthearted conversation, and I canât help but steal glances at her. She looks out the window, her excitement evident.
When we arrive at a quiet, picturesque spot by the lake, Briarâs eyes widen. âThis is beautiful,â she says softly.
âI thought youâd like it,â I say, grabbing a picnic basket from the trunk.
We settle on a blanket by the water, the sun casting a warm glow over us. As we eat, we talk about everythingâher classes, my responsibilities as Alpha, her dreams, my past.
At one point, I catch her staring at me. âWhat?â I ask, smiling.
âNothing,â she says, looking away quickly, but her cheeks are tinged with pink.
âYouâre a terrible liar,â I tease, leaning closer.
âFine,â she admits, meeting my gaze. âI was just thinking how⦠different you are when itâs just the two of us.â
âDifferent how?â
âLess⦠intimidating,â she says with a small laugh.
I chuckle. âGood to know I donât always terrify you.â
âYou donât,â she says softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
---
As the sun begins to set, we walk along the edge of the lake. Briarâs hand brushes against mine, and I take a leap, intertwining our fingers. She looks up at me, surprised, but she doesnât pull away.
âThank you for this,â she says after a moment.
âFor what?â
âFor making me feel⦠safe,â she says, her voice filled with sincerity.
I stop walking and turn to face her. âYou donât ever have to thank me for that, Briar. Itâs what Iâm here for.â
She smiles, and for a moment, the world feels perfect.

Briarâs POV
As Olivia walks me to my door later that evening, I canât help but feel like something has shifted between us.
âGood night, Briar,â she says, her voice soft.
âGood night, Olivia,â I reply, hesitating for a moment before stepping closer and pressing a kiss to her cheek.
She freezes for a second, her eyes wide, and then a slow smile spreads across her face.
âSweet dreams,â she says, her voice a little deeper, and I feel my cheeks heat up as I step inside.
Closing the door behind me, I lean against it, my heart racing. Maybe, just maybe, this bond is exactly what Iâve been waiting for.
