âFine.â Winnie nodded and added half-jokingly, âBut your father will despise me more if I let you face all my troubles. Heâll think of me as a vixen who has thoroughly beguiled his son.â
âAnd heâll be absolutely right.â Xavier placed her on his lap and gazed at his beloved woman in adoration. âIâll go to you at once whenever you beckon at me with your index finger. Even a vixen couldnât manipulate me to that extent.â
âOh?â In amusement, she stuck out her index finger and drew circles on his chest. âIt seems youâve experienced your fair share of vixens, havenât you, Mr. Fairchild?â
âYouâve wronged me.â He tightened his arms around her as if to punish her. âThose vixens might have existed, but Iâve never taken them seriously because I canât accept any other woman. Iâll have to discipline you if you dare to doubt me again.â
Winnie failed to wrap her mind around his words. âHow do you plan on doing that?â
He shifted her hand toward his lower body and said, âWhat do you think?â
Winnie arched her brow when she touched his manhood. âIn that case, youâre doomed. Youâll have to wear yourself out if you wish to discipline me.â
âOh?â Xavierâs voice sounded hoarse as he was aroused. âWhy donât you elaborate further?â
She nudged him gently and replied, âWeâll discuss this in detail when weâre back. Weâre still in Lucasâ car at the moment.â
While she spoke, she felt a hot sensation in her nostrils and started experiencing a nosebleed.
Knitting her brows, she lifted her head and cursed, âD*mn it. Hurry up and pass me some tissue.â
She had gotten off his lap as she uttered those words.
He immediately reached out to pull some tissues for her. However, the tissue box was empty after he took out one piece of tissue, which happened to be the last piece.
Evidently, that wasnât sufficient for Winnieâs use. As a result, she could only tilt her head up and say to Xavier, âCan you help me purchase a packet of tissue? Pick up some wet wipes and a bottle of mineral water too.â
In truth, she had brought those things along with her, but she had used up all of them on the ship earlier.
âOkay. Wait for me. Iâll be back soon.â Even without her telling him to do so, he wouldâve gone out to buy those items for her.
With that, he opened the car door and jogged away.
However, the parking lot was quite far away from the supermarket at the harbor, so Xavier would have to take some time to complete his shopping no matter what.
That was why Winnie was shocked when someone opened the door again.
Surprised, she asked, âHow are you so quick to return?â
âAm I? I even took a detour to the restroom just now.â Unexpectedly, Lucasâ voice sounded outside the car.
He knitted his brows when he took in her appearance. âWhy are you having another nosebleed? What is Xavier doing? How can he leave you alone inside the car? Where did he go?â
As he spoke, he reached out to pull some tissues from the tissue box.
Winnie spoke up when she heard his movements. âThereâs no more tissue. Xavier went to the supermarket at the harbor to buy some for me. He didnât ditch me here.â
âWhat?â Lucas stuck half his body into the car. After hearing her words, he hastily scanned his surroundings. âAre you saying that Xavier was with you the whole time and only just left the vehicle?â
âThatâs right.â Winnie frowned in confusion. âWhatâs the matter? Why did you ask that question?â
Lucas creased his brows. âAre you sure?â
Winnie replied, âObviously, Iâm sure. I was still sitting on his lap a few minutes ago. How could that be fake?â
âAll right then. I mustâve gotten the wrong person. I saw him at the harbor when I returned to the ship approximately ten minutes ago. I was surprised to see him there at that time and wondered if he was there to find me. I called out to him, but he ignored me as if he hadnât seen me. Thatâs why I opened the carâs passenger side door when I came backâI wanted to check whether he was in the vehicle. If thatâs the case, I mustâve made a mistake.â
âThat goes without saying. You were undoubtedly mistaken. In my opinion, even though you only have mild myopia, you should still wear a pair of glasses. It may have been fine for you to misrecognize someone today, but the consequences would be dire if you blundered the decimal points on an agreement one day.â
Lucas glanced at Winnie. âPfft! Are you that eager to see me make a fool of myself? Iâll never screw up an agreement, even if I hug the wrong woman as my girlfriend. Canât you mind your critical language while your nose is bleeding?â Having said that, he couldnât help but add, âI can still see clearly when I squint. I swear that man resembles Xavier. Theyâre almost identical, and that man also wore a black outfit.â
âPerhaps they look alike to a certain extent.â Winnie didnât take that matter seriously. âDo you still remember that university roommate of yours? Others always referred to you two as twins.â
âThat was because those foreigners suffered from face blindness and couldnât distinguish between us Aplothians. Besides, do you think his demeanor could match up with mine? Thereâs a stark contrast between our vibes, and Iâm confident Iâm superior to him.â
Rendered speechless, she couldnât stop herself from rolling her eyes. âI donât suppose Iâm suffering from face blindness too. I think you two were indeed quite similar in appearances.â
Lucas was stumped. He parted his lips and uttered, âForget it. A gentleman will never argue with a woman. Your husband is back. Heâs running pretty speedily.â
With that, Lucas moved toward the driverâs seat, stepping aside to make way for Xavier.
A few seconds later, Xavier hastened into the car, took out the items inside the plastic bag one by one, and handed them to Winnie.
After noticing Winnie was almost done cleaning up her bloody nose, Lucas turned around and asked Xavier, âMr. Fairchild, do you have a twin brother?â
Xavier frowned. âNo. Why?â
âWhat about a brother from a different father or mother?â
Xavierâs face darkened instantaneously.
Winnie tossed a balled-up tissue at Lucas. âWhatâs wrong with you? You should just shut up if you arenât adept at conversing with others.â
âOkay. Iâm sorry.â Lucas made the gesture of zipping up his mouth as he spoke.
Winnie was worried Xavier might be infuriated, so she explained, âHeâs insensitive, but he bears no ill will. He inquired those questions because he mentioned seeing someone who looked identical to you at the harbor just now. However, I reckon he mustâve made a mistake since heâs myopic.â
Xavier grunted in response. Then, he shot a stern look at Lucas via the rearview mirror.
Coincidentally, Lucas was also checking them out. After meeting Xavierâs eyes for one second, he guiltily averted his gaze at once.
Xavier swiftly held back his hostile aura and asked Winnie tenderly, âAre you tired? If you are, you can lie down on my lap.â
âThatâs not needed. Iâll be fine after resting for a short while.â She closed her eyes as she spoke and leaned against his shoulder.
Listening to her steady breathing, Xavier could finally relax his furrowed brows.
As he held her hands tightly, he thought, I can only rest assured when sheâs with me.
