Matthew also smiled and said to Blanca, âGrandpa said you are sweet and nice.â
Blanca came to her sensed, said thank you and smiled. She felt relieved that this grandpa seemed very kind.
She looked at the old manâs work and flattered, âThat is great!â
The old man thought she was just flattering him. After all, few young women were interested in oil painting now. He wanted to tease her and asked, âHow come? Explain it for me, please?â
Seeing that he was testing her, she went to the table and gave a professional comment on his work, which impressed the old man.
âVery well. Youâve learned about oil painting before?â
Blanca shook her head and said, âMy neighbor is a master of oil painting. I used to hang out in his place all the time, which is why I know a few things about it.â
The neighbor she mentioned was indeed a master of oil painting. He got into trouble with some bad guys so he fled to the slum. Blanca had never gone to school but that neighbor taught her a lot.
Matthew was quite surprised to hear that from Blanca. He didnât expect her to know so much about painting.
They stayed in his study for about ten minutes and then Mr. Johnson came to say that dinner was ready. Then they went downstairs with grandpa.
When Wilbert came, his wife Carrie ran to him and cried, âHoney, you have to do something!â
âWhat?â
âThat girl Matthew brought home was rude to me! She said that Iâm a gold digger and that I stink!â
âReally? She dared to say that to you?â
Wilbert lived with Carrie for more than a decade. He knew her personality and could tell that she was exaggerating.
âYes! She isnât one of us yet and she dares to treat me like that! How could I expect her to respect me in the future!â
âI think she is a nice girl. She wouldnât do such things.â
Carried was even more angry hearing that, âYou donât believe me? She was a thief! We canât trust her!â
âReally?â
âYeah! Look!â
Carrie showed him the news that Blanca admitted at the press conference that she stole money for her grandmotherâs treatment.
When he finished reading, he smiled, âI think sheâs a brave girl with a big heart. I donât care what other people think of her. Since she and Matthew got married, sheâs one of us now. Water under the bridge now. Donât bring this up again.â
Carrie frowned and her face was twisted because of rage.
She couldnât imagine that such a strict and stern person would be so tolerant.
That Blanca was absolutely bad news.
Right now, she saw Blanca was helping grandpa walk the stairs. She was so outrageous that her eyes almost popped out of head. But she couldnât say anything since Wilbert was also here.
The dinner went great for Blanca.
She was outgoing and grandpa really liked her. So, she had a friendly conversation with him.
As for Wilbert who was always so serious, Blanca treated him very politely and kindly. No one would have thought that she was rude to her mother-in-
law before.
Louise kept poking the food on her palate and could do nothing about Blanca.
Seeing that Blanca was having a good time with grandpa and Louise couldnât do anything about the situation, Carrie didnât know what to do.
Her daughter couldnât even do anything to this Blanca, and whatâs worse, she didnât even know how to make her own grandpa happy. All in all, this dinner went terrible for Carrie and Louise.
After dinner, Wilbert left the table and went back to his study. Grandpa was sitting in the living room and chatting with Blanca and Matthew.
Carrie couldnât take it anymore and told her daughter something.
After hearing what her mother said, Louiseâs eyes flickered with mischief. She bit her lips, nodded and returned to the living room.
