Chapter 2051 Domestic Troubles
Levant narrowed his eyes in suspicion. How quickly you change your tune. Afraid of my fists, perhaps?
âCare for a tour?â he offered. Davin gazed hesitantly at his wife. âActually, weâve come today because my wife would like a word with yours. Where is she, by the way?â
âItâs been ages since I last spoke to Tiffany,â Sheila added. âSheâs at work. You need to schedule an appointment if you want to speak with her.â âAn appointment?â Davin and Sheila exchanged startled glances.
âYou heard me right. Her company has recently launched a subsidiary which has taken up so much of her time that even Luke couldnât see his mother as much as he would like.â
âArenât you worried she would wear herself out?â Sheila asked with concern.
Levant looked suddenly forlorn. âOf course, I am! I have the cook prepare a bowl of broth every night for her. She has so little time to spare for meals that I practically have to beg and coerce her to finish it in front of me. Though I admire and respect such ferocious dedication to her career, Iâm really worried for her health.â
Davin and Sheila exchanged glances in silent acknowledgment of Levantâs pain. His attitude toward Tiffany has changed completely.
âI can give her a call and tell her you have some urgent matters to discuss with her,â Levant suggested. âShe could use a break away from work, too.â
Without waiting for a response, he pulled out his phone and called his wife. âWhat is it?â Tiffany asked curtly seconds later.
âSheila and Davin are looking for you. Thereâs something urgent they wish to talk to you about.â
âWhat about? I still have several reports that need my urgent attention, on top of meetings with two potential partners this afternoon. And-â
âLook at you, Tiffany,â Levant chided gently. âYouâre becoming a workaholic! I wonder if you still remember your life outside of work. You have a home, a son, friends, a husbandâ¦â
âIâll come back now,â said Tiffany meekly after a long pause. Sheila was amused by his irritation. âYou look like youâre not getting enough attention from the wife,â she remarked after Levant hung up.
âIâd say,â added Davin cheekily. âWho knew you would one day care about Tiffanyâs well-being? We certainly didnât!â
âWhat are you two talking about?â demanded Levant, flustered.
âOoh, it seems like weâve struck a nerve, Davin.â
âYou appear to be right, my love,â Davin said graciously before leaning close and whispering to Levant, âThings are not going well in the bedroom, huh?â
âGet out!â he roared.
âAha! So thatâs whatâs happening!â
Levant aimed a kick at Davin who danced nimbly out of reach.
Several minutes later, Tiffany arrived and glanced apologetically at Sheila and Davin. âSorry, things have been crazy recently. Levant said you needed help with something? Letâs hear it. Iâll do my best to help you.â
Sheila studied her friend closely, who had indeed grown haggard since she last saw her. Though Tiffany exuded an assertiveness now, it came at the cost of perpetual anxiety that seemed to follow her no matter where she went.
âItâs nothing much, actually,â Sheila said quickly. âIâm just having a bad couple of days and would like to talk to you about it.â
âDid something happen?â
âYes, but not as bad as what happened to you.â
Tiffany construed her friendâs vague reply as a reluctance to discuss it in front of the men. âLetâs continue this conversation elsewhere.â
âSounds good to me.â
The pair arrived at Tiffanyâs room. After bringing over a tray of freshly cut fruits along and cups of coffee with cream and sugar on the side, the waiter closed the door behind him.
Sheila raised her cup without taking a sip. âI think my father doesnât love me,â she said with a sigh.
âWhy would you say that?â
âHave your mother and brother come to look for you, Tiffany? Do you still hate them?â
