Chapter 1751 The Key To The Treasure
I canât believe that the prospect of a treasure trove couldnât even tempt someone as money-minded as Davin. It seems like his cowardice surpasses his greed. He mustâve refused to go because he thinks itâll be dangerous. How am I going to convince him to go?
Levantâs mind whirred as he came up with another plan.
Meanwhile, Davin was looking down at his phoneâs screen that had dimmed, thinking that he should not have hung up just like that.
I shouldâve told him off more and vented my frustrations. Why do I always think of all the comebacks I shouldâve said after hanging up? Itâs the same when I argue with Sheep. After every argument, Iâll feel like I didnât express myself well enough. I only think of what I shouldâve said to get back at her when Iâm lying in bed at night. Iâm losing my touch. Iâve got to practice more. Look at what happened just now. I was trounced by Levant when he went off at me like a psycho. Why didnât I just give him a piece of my mind immediately? Why did I wait for him to finish?
Davin sighed heavily, determined to work on his argument skills.
He had just put aside his phone and closed his eyes to rest for a while when he heard the door opening.
A person dressed as one of the staff entered and walked toward Davin with his head lowered.
Davinâs brows knitted. âWhat is it?â
The man did not speak as he continued walking forward.
Davin glanced at the man warily. Sensing something amiss, he sprang to his feet and opened his mouth to question the man. However, he suddenly saw the glint of a blade and felt a dagger pressed against his neck.
âItâs been a while since we last met, Davin.â
This voice! It sounds so familiar! Is it⦠Lucas?
Davin felt his heart lurch. âYou! What do you think youâre doing?
âWell, the Seet family foiled my plans against Steven. Considering that fact, what do you think Iâm going to do?â
Crap! Is he here to seek revenge? What should I do? I donât want to agitate him further, so I shouldnât retaliate using force. With that dagger heâs holding, my life is in his hands. I canât afford to anger him!
âLucas, you canât blame us for what happened. The person you loathe is Steven. You shouldnât be ruining the Seet family instead!â
âWhat did you say?â Lucas asked coldly. Davinâs chest tightened as he felt Lucas move the blade against his throat ever so slightly.
âC-Calm down! I know you hate Steven. I think heâs an eyesore too! Thatâs why I kicked him out of the hideout and took over his territory. I wanted to see him defeated and miserable!â
As Davin spoke, he observed Lucasâ expression and saw that the latter seemed to approve of what he just said. Hence, Davin continued, âI think the two of us should work together. If we get rid of Steven, youâll have gotten your revenge, and the hideout will be mine. Iâll be able to make even more money-â
âShut up! This is the Maupay familyâs turf. Even if Steven isnât in the picture, you wonât be in the position to claim it as your own. Itâll belong to me!â Lucas snapped, cutting Davin off in mid-sentence.
Davin sneered inwardly. You? Pfft! If it does end up in your hands, thereâs no saying whatâll become of it. Itâd be better to leave it to me!
âI donât have time to talk nonsense with you, Davin. If you want to live, then hand over the key to the treasure.â
Davin looked bewildered. âThe key to the treasure? What key?â
âStop playing dumb. That night when Imperial Garden was about to get bombed, Evan gave Steven a coffer. The key to the treasure is inside a coffer that looks just like that!â
âInside that coffer? I had no idea! Didnât you say that Evan gave it to Steven? Then you should go and hunt down Steven! Whatâs the use of coming to me?â asked Davin.
âI did, but there was no key in that coffer Evan gave him. It was a fake. The real coffer with the key is still with Evan!â
Davin thought hard for a moment, then shook his head. âNo. That canât be. Evan gave him the real one.â
A dangerous look blazed in Lucasâ eyes. âDavin Seet, Iâm done arguing with you. Youâre going to help me with this. You have no other choice.â
